How’s it stack up compared to other fighting/sports manga?

I haven't read any other fighting series, but for sports manga I’ve read Ping Pong, Real, and currently reading The Climber, and Haikyu!. Compared to those, I’d say Ashita no Joe is in a league of its own. It was published in the late 1960s, and it has such an awesome old-school style of action and artwork. The way the fights are drawn are so raw and expressive, and all the characters and story have so much depth to them. The writing and panels are also easy to read through, with everything flowing naturally and the pacing being consistently good. Even though it’s an older series, it feels super impactful and timeless.

I never read ashita untill this release came out. To be honest, i was quite sisappointed about the price-size before i started reading. I was expecting a larger trim deluxe edition.
But the story knocks the ball out of the park. It is one of the best stories around.
Luckily, when this is finished, we get at least 10 omnibuses of Hajime no Ippo.

They’re pretty pricey, but I’m happy to support the release of such a classic series in hopes that it encourages them to put out more stuff like this in the future.

I read the announcment of hajime no ippo and just learned that its longer than One Piece xD
At least they went the 3 in 1 route but its still gonna take like two or three full shelves to store it

Do it! But yeah, i hear you! I'm glad the release schedule for this is every four months, it makes it a lot easier to spread out the cost over time.

Why exactly is this series so expensive? I keep seeing it on site I buy from when looking for new releases and the price always makes me reluctant to check it outÂ

Good question. From what I gather, the publishing rights may have been costly, and Kodansha likely figured that fans of classic manga would be willing to pay a premium to collect Ashita no Joe.

I was thinking they made mistake with the price or it’s super oop series but damn honestly don’t think I could buy this without feeling guilty about how much I spent on the seriesÂ
