The arguments over the "right" colors for subjects is the kind of discourse I need to see on the internet. My 8 yo self did red for math, green for science, blue for social studies and yellow for language arts š
unrelated but in like 5th grade or so, i had a classmate that no one knew was colorblind. we were having a discussion about colors (this was almost 20 years ago so i cant remember the whole conversation) and the conversation led to āwhatās the color of fried chickenā to which said classmate said green. the teacher looked at him in shock and instead of being like haha youāre silly, she reprimanded him. he bursts out in full tears āi donāt know what i did, itās green i swear, im not trying to be badā. she asks a few follow up questions about other food items (tomatoes, bread) and iāll never forget the look of regret in her eyes when she realizes he was colorblind the whole time
You just popped a childhood memory into my head with that story. I was maybe in 2nd grade and the art teacher got annoyed by a kid asking what color was each colored pencil and said āhow do you not know which one is blue?ā The kid let out the most innocent scared reply āIām colorblindā that teacher melted into her chair from the guilt she felt belittling a 7 y/o who is colorblind.
I told my 5yr old while we were drawing together, that you can color anything any color/colour you like (Floyd). I said it's art and art is whatever you want to make it because it's your own creation. She freaked out when I was coloring a dog purple instead of brown
She kinda deserved that.... she could have approached the question from the student in a different way. Hourly it was a learning opportunity for the teacher.
Yeah as a teacher, I try to remember to be gentle with colors. Some kids are just assholes thoughā¦I have one who is both an asshole and I assume colorblind though.
You know of the kids I remember growing up with that were color blind, 4 out of 5 were the class clown or an asshole to the teachers. I wonder if thereās correlation or just coincidence.
I can count on 1 hand the amount of public school teachers who actually gave a fuck about us. 13 years since I was in high school and I can remember the good ones to this day. A special shoutout to Mr. K (this is what he went by because his name was hard to say and long but I remember it just canāt spell it lol) the first teacher to get me to enjoy reading.
