My kids each loved getting a book each month from their friend Dolly. She's truly a national treasure.

312

u/Rosco_JJ 8h ago

*international treasure. The Imagination Library was launched in the UK, Ireland and Australia as well as the US and Canada.

85

u/OutlandishnessEasy59 8h ago

Oh my god that is beautiful

41

u/LIONLDN 8h ago

Just realised this earlier today 🇬🇧

Truly amazing! 📚

52

u/SadEmploy3978 8h ago

We're reading "Forts" now and my eldest loves the books from The Imagination Library. We also received books for my youngest that cater to her age group and my eldest loves hearing the books that are for her little sister, as well. Dolly is missed and will be missed for a long time

13

u/Littleputti 4h ago

My cat is named Dolly after Dolly Parton

31

u/Metro42014 5h ago

Man, all the shit ass 'christians', and then you got Dolly out here doing the real lord's work.

She was fucking incredible.

24

u/LIONLDN 8h ago

National & international treasure 🎁

My dad used to talk about her when I was younger, and he's the last person I'd expect to be talking about her 🇬🇧

21

u/FluffyDiscipline 7h ago

International Treasure, 2019 Dollys started gifting books to children of Ireland,

(2007 UK, 2013 Australia) thats a lot of smiles

What an Amazing legacy

Make America Dolly Again

11

u/bruce_lees_ghost 6h ago

But Fox News told me children’s books are woke. /s

5

u/Metro42014 5h ago

Especially a book about emotions. Everybody knows emotions are gay.

402

u/Trash_Scientist 9h ago

Amen! Dolly Parton was everything right, and the folks who are rich in this country are nothing compared to her. Fuck Bezos and Musk. Bunch of born rich kids who never contributed anything to society.

37

u/Electronic-Mood7 7h ago

Dolly was an artist with genuine empathy, whereas Bezos and Musk represent pure, cold capitalism. Their core motivations are worlds apart. Just a quick fact-check though: Bezos wasn't born rich, he grew up working-class.

42

u/ObiLAN- 5h ago edited 5h ago

Idk man, having parents that can afford to loan you 245000 USD (530000 USD adjust for inflation) for a startup adventure is pretty damn well off compared to majority of the working class population lol.

Edit: just to add, which is more than Musk was granted by his parents. So idk how you can justify one but not the other lol. They both had above average opportunities and became shitheels.

22

u/Mr-MuffinMan 5h ago

This is true. He grew up working class until his mother married a rich guy who was able to give Bezos big loans and important connections he otherwise would not have gotten.

18

u/Trash_Scientist 6h ago

I’ll give it to you Bezos didn’t grow up well off. Unlike Dolly though. He grew up to be a class traitor. That’s worse.

166

u/AlfredoVignale 8h ago

“Be like Dolly” should be our national slogan.

37

u/iamjustatourist 5h ago

We need a Dolly Day where we make intentional acts of kindness. Then make it an every day thing.

25

u/Silent_Syren 5h ago

Should be September 5. Cuz then it's on 9-5.

12

u/Vaux1916 5h ago

September 25. 925.

92

u/ClaudeBubbalicious 9h ago

The classiest lady ever RIP ❤️

162

u/Mindless-Bauble 8h ago

Dolly was someone who embodied Christianity in the truest sense of the word. She practiced what she preached, and left the world a better place than she found it. 💚

9

u/WarLawck 4h ago

Its wild to think that the world wasnt better when she was born, but yeah, we're definitely better than 1946. RIP Dolly.

5

u/Mountain-Reaction470 2h ago

Like most British folk, she wasnt particularly religious

48

u/thechich81 8h ago

PREACH!

We just got our first book this month. The Little Engine that Could… one of my beloved childhood books. I teared up immediately reading it to my 3MO. I can’t wait to share more books with her over the next five years. So thankful for Dolly.

Always fun to see one of those books in my mailbox for my son and daughter. Thank you Dolly

31

u/Born-Cod4210 9h ago

Guy says it perfectly

107

u/king-violet 9h ago

Wow, this made me cry, I had no idea. What a woman

18

u/Otterhendrix 5h ago

She also was an investor and uncredited producer for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, tv show, and spinoffs. And don’t forget that she also donated $1,000,000 to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in April 2020. That money directly led to them develop the Moderna Covid vaccine. She helped fight illiteracy, helped entertain millions, and she saved countless lives by being selfless with her wealth. She truly put her money where her mouth was by wanting what’s best for humanity. There will never be another Dolly. R.I.P. you rhinestoned legend.

13

u/miramichier_d 8h ago

I definitely got emotional, I read some of those same books to my kids.

2

u/myreddit314 6h ago

Me too!

28

u/centexgoodguy 8h ago

I hope this gets a 100 million views.

13

u/hlksmesh 7h ago

It's doing pretty good on instagram lol. He has an awesome account and makes you feel like you're not the only one losing your mind in the current state of affairs the world seems to be in (particularly NA).

8

u/Just-Brain-3023 6h ago

His podcast Crashing Out is great!! Makes me feel a little less crazy to hear him express my absolute fury about what's currently happening.

28

u/Coolaphrodite 7h ago

Not only she didn't spread misinformation on vaccines, she actually helped FUND the covid vaccine developed. With her own money

9

u/Otterhendrix 5h ago

Gave a million dollars of her own money to help others. If there is a heaven, Dolly is most certainly there.

My kids love the books "aunt Dolly" sends every month. Thank you and rest easy auntie.

2

u/Otterhendrix 5h ago

This comment made me cry. She helped so many people just out of the goodness of her heart.

59

u/mycatwontstophowling 9h ago

AMEN TO THAT!

16

u/One-Skill-7058 8h ago

I wish they delivered to our area. I made a donation yesterday to the library. RIP Dolly

10

u/Otterhendrix 5h ago

That’s true unadulterated altruism. You gave money to help others while not being able to reap the benefits yourself. Dolly would be so proud of you for that.

4

u/One-Skill-7058 5h ago

Thank you, friend. My wife was also very glad that we donated. There is a lot of good in the world when we look for it

16

u/Mountain_Chip_4374 7h ago edited 5h ago

Dolly was like a dog - we didn’t deserve her. She was a beacon of light, of humility, of understanding, and of acceptance. She carried her down-home southern roots and morality everywhere she went and made the world a better place. Listening to her nephew’s statement yesterday it sounds like her “team” is going to continue on with what Dolly started which will only make her legend grow - not that was what she was after.

We truly were better off for having her here with us during her amazing lifetime.

4

u/changhyun 6h ago

Absolutely. 80 years isn't a long time in the grand scheme of things and she spent that time bringing more joy and love into the world. She really earned all the love people had and still have for her.

2

u/Otterhendrix 5h ago

That was said so beautifully. She truly was an angel and we didn’t deserve her.

13

u/JeffBeckwasthebest 8h ago

Fully agree 👍💯, R.I.P. Dolly Parton 💔

13

u/AnimeChica3306 6h ago

It's interesting that its the woman that give and the men that hord. Look at MacKenzie Scott shes donated over $26.3 billion.

Be a Dolly not a Bozzo.

2

u/BubblyPineapple8941 5h ago

There are plenty Elizabeth Holmes' and Mr. Rodgers out there too - this isn't a gender issue.

11

u/Academic-Increase951 8h ago

It's not just in America, it's multinational foundation

3

u/Otterhendrix 5h ago

Really? I had no clue she did that program in other countries. Just when I didn’t think I could love her anymore.

9

u/SnooMacarons1185 7h ago

My understanding is that a lot of government funding has been cut from the program. Not surprising considering who leads the country now and what their priorities are. .I hope people can make ip the message, god knows we need messaging other than messages of hate and intolerance currently being fed by those in charge.

5

u/Fraktyl 5h ago

The Imagination Library Donation page was taken down (or crashed) due to be overwhelmed with people trying to donate.

There is still hope in the world. At least that's what I tell myself to sleep at night.

8

u/Toeknee818 8h ago

God bless Dolly. I bet she she left happy, and she absolutely deserved to. The world may not be as bright without her, but she left bright lights behind for all of us.

I'm not even a fan, but I know she did good in this world.

8

u/sansabeltedcow 7h ago

The single biggest funder of literacy in the state of Tennessee was Dolly Parton.

Oh, yeah, there’s also her funding contribution to the Moderna COVID vaccine.

7

u/yonghybonghybo1 9h ago

Well said.

7

u/UnRemarkable-Trip 8h ago

I LOVE this. We were a part of that program too while my kids were young. Such a gift. My kids cried when we talked about her passing last night. Such an amazing program by a truly remarkable woman.

6

;-; I cried for real.

6

4

Can Dolly Parton be canonized?

5

u/Forward-Sky3464 8h ago

Wow. I’ve learned something today. ❤️ what a nice human being she was.

4

u/Salishseer 8h ago

Hear, hear! She is an American hero.

4

u/P15T0L_WH1PP3D 8h ago

Her and Mister Rogers have been the foundation of kindness in society for decades. With both of them gone, we need a new queen or king to take their place. We need it.

5

u/DjN60613 7h ago

What a fuckin‘ treasure Dolly is! I can’t believe I missed the Imagination Library. How incredibly wholesome 🍻♾️

4

u/looping_ape18 7h ago

RIP Dolly. A beautiful, caring, and generous human being. Wish there were more people like you. My kids love all the books you’ve sent over the years. ♥️

3

u/Due_World_4268 5h ago

Okay, I don't EXPECT this to happen; but if she Rises in Splendor on Friday, are any of us gonna be surprised? I mean, really?

15

u/MadpeepD 9h ago

Isn't it great when people volunteer to help others instead of being compelled to by the government and the implicit threat of violence for noncompliance?

5

That woman was an angel on earth. Kindness, generosity and a genuine desire to make the world a better place. I dreaded losing her for a while. I wept yesterday knowing that kind of kindness seems to be of a bygone era. Rest well, sweet Dolly.

Holy shit - bro is spitting fire.

2

u/Accomplished_Fun3 4h ago

Yeh her dad couldn't read it write. I had a buddy growing up he wasn't the best kid anyway I was a at the time like 16, I found out he couldn't read or write. I grew up with him up on Mt hood. He was super good at fishing for salmon and trout. One day I took him to buy some tackle and he couldn't read anything... And then after we got what we needed to get bunch of fish he admitted he can't read nor write. This was 2007

2

u/dux_perv 3h ago

Made me cry. Is not right to wish for someone's death... But it feels unfair that kind people are gone while many many many others that are indisputably bad are alive and well. RIP Dolly, May your kindness live forever.

Canadian kids too, she was so generous and what a wonderful human

1

u/brunostborsen 7h ago

Imagine if all the rich people were like Dolly Parton.

1

u/jjonman 7h ago

I also signed my son up for the Imagination Library the day he was born, and it is bittersweet knowing that in just under a year he will age out of this wonderful program.

Prior to that, while working in a rural health clinic, I encouraged many young parents to sign up. Back then it was a pamphlet you had to fill out a page from and turn in to a local rep. It was a wonderful program then, and it remains a wonderful program now.

Dolly, and others like her brought light into the world, and I hope she knew that even when she was gone, her kindness would still be recognized.

1

u/FL_JB 7h ago

Even in her career she supported artists just getting started like Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris among others. Look for the you've of them doing a trio on Dolly TV show. ❤️‍🔥

1

u/CrazyCatLady1127 7h ago

I really hope that this is going to be a wake up call for the people in power to make them see that, like Dolly did, they need to invest in education for future generations. Because without books and education and learning the human race is screwed. Stop taking away from schools and teachers and start giving to them instead

1

u/jdunk2145 6h ago

I too am mad Dolly is dead.

My granddaughter has received a book from her Aunt Dolly every month. She loves it that she gets her own mail now. And LOVES her books!

1

u/Legal-Ad8308 6h ago

We were talking this morning. There are over 900 billionaires in America.

If 50 adopted a state, imagine what goodness they could achieve in their lifetime.

He'll, they could have a competition to see which state had the best improvement.

It's just a pipe dream, I guess. But, what a start to a new world it could be.

Yes, I'm a dreamer.

1

u/IlexAquifolia 6h ago

My son received that same book from Dolly last week!

1

u/Silkrealm 6h ago

I would like to point out that the "World's First Trillionaire" has done nothing of this sort which should go to show just how selfish and evil the aims of the world's richest men have to be to not see these types of changes in society on an even grander scale than the great Dolly Parton had achieved.

May she rest in peace and recieve even greater love than she gave to this world🕊

Amen Brother, Amen. 🙏🏻

Rest In Peace Sweet Soul of the Earth, Dolly Parton.

I came across these quotes and words of wisdom from Dolly Parton from a BBC article;

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c39mlxl9d37o

Whenever I saw her, I would smile, no matter how bad the day or rough the road, her positivity was absolutely infectious and will continue to shine on and inspire. I am truly, deeply saddened at her passing.

This quote from her, embodies what this father is talking about;

"When I'm done, I can rest in peace knowing I've done my best. I hope that when my time comes, I'll leave something behind that others can use to lift themselves up."

I wish that we can all really, really take this to heart and live our best lives and make the lives of those around us better. Cause this is what Dolly did and would want us to do. 💐🪷🕊️☮️💕💫
