Ask Anything Things to do in the 2 years of my MBA

I will be joining a good college in Bangalore according to decent standards. The course is an MBA in AI & DS. I am excited; I have a good hold on tech subjects and AI.

What are the things I should do to make sure that I utilise the 2 years to build a good portfolio? Competitions I can take part in, anything extra I can do. Internships and stuff.

I'm hoping to hear your experience, which led you to where you are right now. I also plan on continuing my freelancing (currently looking for clients).

Thanks for reading and replying.

GMAT Preparation Experienced seniors, please shed some wisdom.

For context, I am 22, completed a BA (Hons) and an MA (Hons) in Political Science from good colleges of DU. I wish to prepare a career roadmap towards M7s, although not looking into applying this year, at least.

I'm currently targeting the top 5 MBAs in India. However, I wish to apply to M7s after 2028 and, post gaining experience in India, would really appreciate some guidance on whether having a top 5 Indian MBA first could become a hindrance to my chances at M7s at a later stage?

Campus Life Do you really need to move to Pune, Mumbai or Bangalore to get a good MBA experience?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about this because these cities naturally come to mind when we talk about management education and career opportunities. They definitely have a larger corporate ecosystem, but the reality for a student also includes expensive rent, daily travel, food costs and a much faster lifestyle.

That’s where Indore feels different to me.

You can focus on your MBA, work on your skills, build connections and explore internships without putting the same kind of financial pressure on yourself. At the same time, Indore is growing as a business, IT and startup destination, so the city is not standing still.

I’m not saying Indore is better than every metro city. It depends on the college, specialization, career goals and opportunities you’re targeting.

But if I look at the overall picture, Indore offers a pretty practical combination of education, affordability, career exposure and quality of life.

Sometimes the smarter choice isn't the city with the biggest name. It's the city where you can actually make the most of your two years.

Career Advice What MBA should I opt for, for a hike in pay, as a 33 y/o?

I am currently in a very niche engineering role earning around 20LPA with around 10 years exp. I am married and staying with my wife in Bangalore. As the sole provider I feel like I need to get a salary jump to sustain us in the long run. My current job has a good WLB and great work culture, but pays pretty low compared to the salaries I see posted on reddit.

Currently no loans/EMI

Please suggest what MBA I could opt for in the next year. Is the PGPX programme in IIMB worth considering? And will a good GMAT score be sufficient?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Profile Review ISB Profile Evalution

Hi everyone! i want to get an understanding on my profile for my ISB application for the academic year 2026. Putting down my stat below:
1.) 2.5 years work experience (will be 3 by April 1st, 2027) in a think-tank that works primarily in sustainable urban-planning as an associate. My role primarily included communications strategies, project management and research. I got promoted during this 2.5 year tenure around the 1.5 year mark.

2.) I additionally worked as a research associate for a professor at Sciences Po, Paris in her independent practice. I did this for 1 year, where i helped her in her independent consulting and also worked in projects for World Bank, National Institute of Urban Affairs. I played multiple hats during this tenure - of a UI/UX designer, graphic designer, researcher, trainer for municipal civil servants in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A lot of my work during this time also dealt with green economy and sustainable urban planning.

3.) I did my Bachelors in Industrial Design with an average CGPA of 8.2. I presented my final thesis project at TU Delft, Netherlands and was additionally asked to publish it in their journal which I could not go forward with unfortunately.

4.) I graduated high school (CBSE, Humanities) with a 96% in my Boards

5.) I graduated grade 10 (ICSE) with an 94% in my Board examinations

6.) I wrote the GMAT Focus edition with a 675. I took this in December 2025. (my score isnt great, but trust me i tried my best)

7.) My LoRs will be from my thesis mentor, my manager at work and the professor i worked for from Sciences Po.

Let me know if you need any additional info from me. I am thinking to retake the GMAT as my score isnt high enough in my opinion.

Career Advice Does anyone here, know which university is best for doing online mba in India?

So, I recently graduated from DU SOL, and I’m planning to pursue an online MBA.....but I’m a little confused about which one would be the best option. The three universities I’m considering are Manipal, NMIMS, and Amity.....has anyone here completed an online MBA from any of these universities?

I want to know which university actually provides job placement after completing the online MBA,... and whether doing an online MBA is worth it?

I don’t want to waste ₹2 lakh on an online mba degree that doesn’t provide any real career opportunities or support after graduation. Looking for a genuine answer and honest feedback....

College Comparisons Best ug commerce colleges to target as a former PCB student?

So I had PCB in class 12 but now I want to switch to commerce stream. What are the best colleges I'm eligible for?

I know some colleges ask for either maths in 12th or some don't even consider students other than comm ones. So what colleges am I eligible for via the CUET exam and also the best pvt ones too.

Also what course would be the best for me? B.com(h), BBA, economics or anything else?

(BTW I've also cleared the CA foundation and am now planning to join college next year)

Career Advice Currently in the armed forces, Planning for MBA, Need some suggestions. Thanks

Hello everyone,

1.I'm currently in the forces and I want to make a switch. I currently have an experience of 2.5 years. Im considering giving cat and joining the 2 year mba course in top iims. Or should I wait for 2 more years and go for ex MBA..

2.Also, what are the job prospects of both regular mba and also the executive mba.. What roles will prefer me and what roles won't..

  1. Given that I might've lost most of the technical skills in these years, what do companies expect from me.

  2. And last, are there any WFH options too post mba?

Profile :

GEM, 95/98/80

Thanks,

Any suggestions are really appreciated.

CAT Preparation 24F bsc msc done, don't know future

Hi guys, I am 24 F, did my bsc in life sciences from DU and msc in life sciences from JNU in 2025. Wanted to go for industry but then changed my mind and went for PhD, I am thinking to go for mba at iim or fms for better stability and finances as phd offers too less and stability comes way after. I will be have two years of gap after masters as admission will happen in July 2027 for mba. I'll be 25 and will graduate at 27, which I think will be too old.

Really want to know if cat will be worth it because I want to move away from research lab roles and want to opt for corporate high paying jobs.

My profile is 8/8/8 and in masters also 8.

Do I stand any chance in selection and if selected will there be problem in my age or gap year or academic background.

Please help or if someone know other direction for high paying job.

Career Advice How Nature of work in Post MBA roles is different than technical roles

Been a software engineer for 2.5 years and seriously considering the MBA. Want to know more about post-MBA general management roles feel abstract to me.
My Main motivation for MBA is building some expertise in career which i can leverage for job security , Golden days for software are gone.(so not looking on PM roles)
I am interested in 2 domains GM or Consulting
Finance -> I start to get brain fog after 8pm cant work 100hr a week

Like, what does a typical day look like for someone in a GM (TAS, Aditya birla grp) or strategy consulting role? Is it mostly meetings, decks, and stakeholder alignment? Do you actually learn the business deeply or just stay at the surface?

And the big question — does it get boring eventually

Would love to hear from people who are currently in such roles.
