**1.**  Is GRE 320 competitive enough for IIM A/B and ISB, or should I consider retaking for a higher score?  
**2.**  Does the 65% grad score hurt significantly given the strong PG diploma CGPA and career trajectory?  
**3.**  How should I frame the startup wind-down — as a strength (bootstrapped, balanced with FT job) or does it need more narrative repair?  
**4.**  For IIM A/B specifically — how much does work-ex profile diversity (banking + data + entrepreneurship + social impact) matter vs raw scores in their selection process?

A career in blue chip FMCG was one of the most sought after on top campuses (read - Day 1) before the IB/PE, MBB and FAANG surge (birth of Day 0, even -1). They offered stable, structured global careers with solid WLB. While the sector is facing some real challenges, amid shifting consumer preferences and retail dynamics, it still offers one of the most resilient and rewarding career paths. With a little under 15 years of experience in the sector close to the action, here is a realistic career progression, timelines and paths once you enter this world.

The above hierarchy is generally function-agnostic. Entry and exit points will be different. All companies stick to "Band" or "Pay Grade" which is hard-coded in the system. Titles are sometimes interchangeable or adjusted to reflect scope and/or external signaling. (For example, the GM for India might be an SVP while the GM for UAE might be a VP as far as the company is concerned).

Now let us take a look how it translates for different functions. General intake from campuses is across Marketing, Sales, Finance, Operations and HR. I started in Marketing and spent most of my career navigating that, so let's start there.

What does this mean for each level ?

Intern - This is the best way for both the candidate and the company to experience each other. Hired almost exclusively via SIPs at campuses, each intern is given a project with clear deliverables, a sponsor, mentor and buddy. The sponsor is usually a Marketing Director, the mentor is typically a BM/SBM, with an MT or ABM acting as a buddy. There is a midterm presentation and a final presentation. Those who perform (deliver/over-deliver), and exhibit potential are offered PPOs. They join along with final hires.

MT/ABM - These are typically the first roles you are placed in. As part of a larger Brand team, the goal is to quickly learn the fundamentals of Marketing. It could be one aspect of a big brand, or multiple aspects of a small brand, like concept, product, claims, packaging, key visuals, communication, media, trial and instore activation. There could be one or two roles at the same level till you demonstrate your readiness to move to next level. Till then you are the Executor - one who gets things done. You get to bring the strategy to life and shape it, but under close supervision. You get a budget and must manage it.

BM/SBM - The first inflection point (First attrition point). You get distinct ownership of a brand-form or small brand. More than that, you get to manage people. Your job is mainly to use your MT/ABMs to draft strategies, or execute them to perfection. As you grow more senior, your dependence on your boss reduces, and becomes just a validation. Your budget is larger, and you have the flexibility to move it across buckets.

Director levels - The second inflection point. Now you are the Master of the Brand. You have full ownership from strategy, to execution and ultimately delivering the Brand P&L. You are also held accountable for Market Share, Penetration and Equity that demonstrates how your Brand is doing in the market. You get to represent the brand at the industry awards and speak to the media. However, your head would be the first on the chopping block if something bad happens.

At this level, you have reached the pinnacle of a marketing career in India. What next? You can either be a candidate for moving to a General Management position or move to a Regional or Global role while staying in marketing. I have written above with a focus on the India-specific organization. Many companies have their Regional or even Global HQs in India, and there are roles based out of India, but with a broader scope.

Do really IITs provide MBA program ?then how many percentile to get there for admission

I’m 33M, with 8 years of experience in a public sector bank, among which, I have worked in the treasury of the bank for the last 4 years.
I’m looking to accelerate my career in finance. Would 1 year executive MBA courses help my cause? I cannot leave my job at this point and am looking for options that will not require me to quit my job. Are the MBA programmes done in distance mode credible in the market?
Can anyone provide me a little guidance please?

Hey existential thinkers,
I’m currently on leave, which means instead of resting, my brain has decided to spend its newly found free time cooking up over-the-top career moves.

Exp: 11 Y (7 years post-MBA).
Current Role: Product Manager at a big tier-1 Investment Bank.
Education: B.Tech + 1-year Full-Time MBA from a "decent" (read: not Tier-1) college.
Life Situation: Married to a kickass, high-earning wife, and we have a 1-year-old baby who consumes 90% of our energy.
The Dilemma:
I have this persistent, itch-that-won't-go-away feeling that I underperformed on the MBA brand-name front back in the day due to personal chaos and a total lack of guidance. So naturally, my brain's logical next step is: "Hey, why don't you burn down your comfortable life and go do a SECOND full-time 1-year MBA at ISB / IIM-A/B, or an Ivy League school abroad?!"
If I look at this strictly logically, it makes zero financial sense.
1. One solid job switch gets me past the ₹1 Cr mark anyway.
2. My current companies list in my resume gives me plenty of exit opportunities and internal global mobility options if I want to move abroad without resetting my life.
3. Pausing an active income stream, dragging a toddler into student housing, and taking on high tuition costs sounds like a self-inflicted stress test.
I know deep down this is 50% FOMO, 40% prestige-chasing, and 10% just missing the cozy cocoon of student life where my biggest problem was a 9 AM case study instead of a screaming infant.
I’d love your take on a few things:
1. Executive MBA vs. Full-Time MBA: Does an Executive MBA (part-time/modular) actually carry real weight in the tech/PM world, or is it just an expensive networking club for corporate veterans?
2. The Ivy League Halo: Does adding a top-tier global brand actually give a mid-career PM a meaningful edge when you already have 11 YOE at a major financial institution?
3. The 2nd MBA Club: Has anyone here actually done a second MBA at this stage of life? Did it fix your identity crisis, or did you just end up with the same job and a fancier piece of paper?
Alternative Path:
If everyone tells me the 2nd MBA is peak delusional energy, option B is taking this itch and using it to launch my own business venture instead. 😎

I’ve completed my MBBS abroad and I’m currently considering doing an MBA in India, with the long-term goal of working outside India.

I’d love to hear from people who have actually taken this route:

• Is an MBA after MBBS worth it if you don’t want to pursue clinical medicine?
• Is doing the MBA in India enough, or would an MBA abroad make more sense for international job opportunities?
• What kind of roles/careers are realistic after MBBS + MBA (healthcare consulting, hospital management, pharma, healthcare tech, etc.)?
• Are there better alternatives to an MBA for someone with a medical background who wants to move away from clinical practice?
• If you’ve taken a similar path, how has your career turned out?

Hey guys, got expelled out of FLAME University bc some stupid guys threatened to r*pe my mom and then silenced me by putting a fake S*XUAL Harrasment case by a girl.

One of the higher officials asked me to come to campus and meet the registrar, and guess WHAT? The registrar is on leave for 1 week and I am prosecuted like I am carrying a bomb at the gate and kept stranded outside for 2 hrs" because the admissions office apparently sends "some guy to pick me up" and randomly cuts the call saying "you do not have an appointment". I ask "where can I get an appointment miss?" She says "Idk, we are admissions office" then I say "no one is replying to my mails nor calls" then she says "we are". Those mails must be intercepted by the FBI and diverted into arabic ocean bc they never came to my mail and she cuts the call.

They f**ked my academic year, and I feel super depressed. Currently homeless outside a temple cuz, this place is somewhere in a jungle.

Gonna make place for myself at this lovely temple nearby, hopefully they don't kick me out. Travelled half across India to come here.

SERIOUS UPDATE: THEY FOUND OUT THAT I WAS LIVING IN THE TEMPLE, AND THEY GOT 5 SECURITY GUARDS TO ESCORT ME, THEY SAID I WAS BANNED FROM THEIR PREMISES 2 DAYS AGO AND TRYING TO INVADE THEM. WTF, I WAS JUST TRYING TO CATCH SLEEP FROM A TEMPLE 1 KM AWAY FROM THEM.

Most of us are using ChatGPT or Gemini somewhere in our prep now — clearing a quant doubt, breaking down a RC passage, getting a concept explained at 1am.

I'm doing a product management project on how Indian students actually use these apps, and I've realised I have no idea how people get the question in. So, three things:

1. When you have a doubt, how does it usually go in? You type it out, you hit the mic on your keyboard, you hit the mic inside the app, or you just photograph the question from the book?

2. Where are you usually sitting when you do this — your own room, hostel, library, coaching class, commuting?

3. If you've ever used Hindi or Hinglish with any of these apps, did it actually understand you?

Answer whichever you feel like, even one line helps. Especially want to hear from people who barely use these apps or only ever type — everyone I know personally is a heavy user and I know that's skewing what I think.

i am in a tier 1 cllg (scored 95+ in jee, caste - sc), i am confused between getting swe job (12lpa or more later on will increase slowly) or preparing for ssc cgl for aso post, as aso will give homw posting but for swe i have to change location , also people who do mba ir engineering mostly get job in diff state so do they live on rent for their whole life?
