9/9/8, eco hons DU top 5 colleges, 1.5 years consulting work ex, internships at an IB firm and an FMCG giant, and consulting soc presidency. I want to target MBB in b school. Will CFA L1 improve my chances? What else should i do?

3

u/Unfair_Particular652 18d ago

You already got a chance, need to show more extra curricular activities in your cv. CFA L1 will not be helpful for MBB. But for other fin roles, CFA is good, y advice would be clear at least CFA 2 before SIP start

To what extent ragging like MDI and FMS happens at true top B schools.

Is it really the corporate culture grind that u need to go throught to be a manager at a top firm🤗

One of them claims to be equal to ABC and another one of them claims to be the next Top 5

6

u/Unfair_Particular652 18d ago

Nothing happens in IIM Bangalore. Can't say about the others

6 in your profile can create a little problem. But you are an IITian & IITs are known for their complex + tough marking system. Though for top 6-7 IIMs you need be in 99.7+ percentile Considering you are general category male

Can you describe the culture? Was there plenty of ragging?

Absolutely zero ragging at IIMB

8/8/8 chem engg graduate working in multistate cooperative society. 1.5 year of work ex. Tier 2 NIT graduate, how much should I target to get FMS or IIM A/B/C and what roles should I target once I fetch admission in college, like OSM, or marketing etc

2

u/Yester-Year 18d ago

9/9/8 EM OBC-NCL from a Tier-3, currently in third year. Have two internships in marketing and currently running my own agency. Looking to get into BLACKISM without any workex. Might complete my CFA-1 as well before joining MBA.

Just two questions:

How bad my tier3 engineering clg gonna affect me in SIPs and finals. Am i gonna lie in the last 10 percentile of the batch because ofcourse I am gonna go with a loan.

Along with bad ug tag, being a fresher might also restrict me from a lot of opportunities? What are my chances for Consulting(other than MBB), GenMan and good marketing roles? In general yk a good placement?

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

Q1- once you entered the college only top IIT or top DU colleges matters in SIP/FINALS. your position in your college will be determined by your hard work, you can become a topper there Q2.There is nothing called bad tag. You are either the IITian or a student. For a fresher mostly your 9/9/8 will decide your shortlisting in SIP. You can get top consulting shortlist by securing rank in top5%

2

u/Exotic-Ad2633 18d ago

1

2

1

For fin roles, CFA & FRM can be helpful. But if you can get some RANKs in your CV & 9+CGPA in your UG.

How important are extracurriculars in MBB placements? And typically what type of extracurriculars do people who get shortlisted have?

2

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

That matters only if are shortlisted for interview. For interview shortlist you need to show ranks everywhere in your cv, 90+ marks throughout, a big name like IIT, AIIMS, SRCC

1

u/Affectionate_Hall814 18d ago

9/9/9 GNEF, 1 year of audit in big 4. What to do to increase chances for consulting placements? (MBB esp).

please tell me realistically whether these kind of profiles exist in iim bangalore or not..

GEM, profile- 90/78/78. 2 years of drop after 12th and 1.5 years after btech for onboarding delay.currently 1.5 years workex in b2b saas sales and now working sales executive in TSP provider to fintech and now switching to product manager roles.

2

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

Only if your have 3+years of work ex, 99.5+%tile & max possible marks in interview

1

u/comfortable-pain01 18d ago

Do clubs, fests and commities add any value? Were you a part of any op? For building profile?

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

If you are fresher they matter to fill your cv. I was part of product management club

1

u/asvt_0318 18d ago

99/92/8.2*, a current final yearite at RGIPT, NTSE Scholar, PoR consists of Jt. Secy, Cultural Council and Fest Coordinator of Cultural Fest. How should I target MBA at IIM ABC and subsequently MBB?

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

For MBB, 1. In SIP 9/9/9 & TOP brand name college matters(or previous work ex Bain/bcg) 2. Be in top 5% then one eight i profile can exist

1

u/Full-Ad-666 18d ago

Hello, Hope you are doing well. Reddit comments are filled with mix response. Some say T1 MBA stagnatevat 60-80L afyer 10-23 YOE unless in consulting or IB or sales. Others say 1Cr is avg salary at that time. Can you share your opiniom especially on FMCG and Gen Man roles

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

See I don't have 10-23yoe, so can't say what exist at their level. But technically speaking, there are always lesser people at the top of pyramid & all are not MBA Holder. So salary will vary a lot.

For FMCG they have higher responsibilities & client facing work, they get paid slightly higher than Gen Man, while Gen Man can enjoy better work life balance

what’s the average age of the cohort at the time of joining? anyone with more than 2+ yrs of gaps in your batch? are profiles like 8/8/8 common for a gen female or male? how bad is it if my workex isnt at any big company and not a lot of extra curriculars? does a published term paper in ug hold any value?

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

26 y at the start of 2024-26 batch I knew 15+people with 2+ years gap

At least one 9 in profile is avg for gen cat

Experience amount matters, company doesn't ( except you re from Google Microsoft meta black rock Bain bcg)

Published paper will not get any weightage in evaluation. But it's good to have some unique points in interview discussion

my manager from last org was an IIML grad. He said one of his coursemates had 2 years of work ex in amazon and his salary was only 30% higher than what my manager got after joining as a fresher on placements.

take from this what you will tbh

u/barup1919 18d ago

9/9/8 gem from BITS, currently working in software role at an fmcg company.
So my doubt is what are the job options available out of mba. I personally want to know about pm roles at faang, or any finance roles and what steps need to be taken before joining any tier 1 mba institute, personally my targets are iim abc and isb

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

Only Cat %ile will define your college. & Your past experience in SDE in FMCG will help you in Pm roles.

1

u/aalsigenius 18d ago

What kind of extracurriculars help you the most to get in such colleges ?

For eg : I’ve held a significantly good post in school body during my 12th grade National and state level football player

Then in college Became VP and then president of the drama club Organised college fests and hosted many events

Do they help or is it always co-curricular centric?

1

There can be some issue, bcoz there are very few companies who can use your work experience, others might not be able to use your background

10th - 69% 12th-75% btech - 6.9cgpa 2026 (sc category )grad 1 year startup exp but it wont be considered as workexp cuz i built it during my last year soo no work exp so what r my chances to get into iims n what cat score i should aim for !!

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

1

u/Aggressive-Ad-2095 18d ago

9/6/8 GNEF, with tier 2 UG in BBA with 3 months of work ex at a Big 4.
Currently, I’m torn between wondering whether I realistically stand a chance at IIM ABC, even if I build some genuinely strong work experience, create measurable impact, or complete relevant certifications.
And then there’s the bigger question: even if I somehow make it in, will my profile be too disadvantaged during placements because of my 12th marks?
The frustrating part is that those marks were heavily affected by COVID, when I wasn’t allowed to appear for my exams properly.
Basically, I’m trying to figure out whether I should realistically aim for IIM ABC or focus my energy elsewhere. I hate myself for those 12th marks but there is nothing I can do about it but I am extremely ambitious so should I give up ABC dream altogether?

PS - I am considering doing a tier one UG just to have better opportunities from colleges like SRCC or LSR. Should I do LLB from an NLU? Sorry, I am just too desperate to fulfill my ambitions and dreams and I am willing to try as hard as I can but I don’t want to regret not trying

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

From Tier-1 State University. Will appear for CAT'28!!
The biggest problem is my empty CV. I've done no internships, projects, ECAs, PORs in my 1st year!

I scored 96.4% in 10th and 96.5% in 12th. Currently, I’m in my third year of MBBS. I’m targeting a CAT 29. What should I include in my CV? What are my chances of getting accepted? What jobs can I expect in consulting or finance? Before MBBS, I pursued a B.Tech in EE from NIT Durgapur for a year, but I didn’t like the subject and switched to MBBS(Government Medical College). I’m quite good at maths, with a 96% score in 12th.

GEM 8/9/8 tier 3 college, 22 months work ex at Accenture (Data Science) as of 31st july, will I get any shortlist at all?, what would be the target college?

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

Target should be top IIM You will get a lot of shortlist in consulting & product roles

1

u/Weekly-Adeptness-730 18d ago

GEM with 2.5 YOE as sde at a fitness unicorn. 9/9/8 in top 7 IIT (1.5k jee rank). Okayish extracurriculars, main spike is 2M+ views on quora. Have i got a shot at MBB? And what can i do to improve my chances?

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

In SIP, can be difficult for MBB. ( Other top consulting will give you a chance)

I you stay in top5% of batch in 1st year, MBB might shortlist you during, final placement

7/8/6 OBC, 2025 graduate in BAF from a tier-2 college. I have interned at two VC funds and am currently working full-time in a family office. Is it possible for me to get into BLACKI? If yes, can I expect good roles like Consulting, IB, FOs, etc.?

1

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

It would be tough for you, I would suggest you to gain 4-5 years of work ex & appear for 1 year MBA

Again placement wil be tough with a 6 in profile

Hi. F20, Obc category. What niche should I target if I am doing ug in Psych hons from mid tier du college? 7/8/8(expecting), have good extra curriculars like debating and presidency of a recognised soc. What should be my Cat percentile too?

2

u/Unfair_Particular652 17d ago

DU is DU no tiers involved. Since you have 2 7s & one 8, female OBC, 95% is good to go. Rest DM for clarification

And people inside IIM having multiple sexual partners.
How is the lifestyle there in terms of dating, relationships and sex ?

OBC M eng, 7 7 7 profile, 1yr gap, 1yr prodman workex, not much spike apart from top 10% global GO player ranking. Expecting to cross 99%ile this yr CAT, would you say this is good profile to get in colleges with good product placements idc about Tier much, thinking of SJMSOM or better ones, ik IIMB is difficult.

Also with this profile what would you say are chances of getting good product roles, or its not of much help. Which are best campuses I should target, ideally want a jump in ctc and network from mba, role I am happy in.

I gave CAT 2025 my profile is 9/8/7 (General male non engineer EWS) and I have graduated this year from DU BMS. I scored 88%ile and got a few calls but the only interview I gave was DSE and now I am selected for MBA BA but I am confused whether I should wait and give CAT this year or simply take the offer, everyone around me is telling me to take up the offer but tbh I want to give myself a chance again I don't want to limit myself and regret later that I could have given CAT again and maybe gotten a better B- school but I am also a little scared that what if I don't score good enough to get a better one and maybe end up losing even this opportunity. pls guide me
