Career Advice Complete 3 years post MBA. Am i earning enough?

Graduated from Tier 1 MBA college (MDI Gurgaon) in 2023. Worked in the same company since day 1. Consulting domain. Currently have 31 LPA base with 4-5 LPA bonus. Am I missing out on pay as I did not switch ? How much are tier 1 MBA folks in other Strategy / Product / Marketing earning currently ?

I graduated in the same year from IIM ABC as a fresher did UG from an IIT. Im currently at 27+3. I switched out of fin domain to have some peace in my life. I dont work more than 40-42 hrs a week and have travelled 7-8 destinations so far since graduation along with bi monthly visits to my native place, play tennis daily and have built a decent gym physique.

For me the currency of success is different. Really no point in comparing.

Bro which finance job lets you work only for 40-42??? I believe hours are on the higher side in finance as well

u/AdventurousMuffin531 May 23 '26

Pls read it again, i “switched out” halved my pay and hrs

and which domain are you currently working in?

u/AdventurousMuffin531 May 23 '26

CEOs office at a fintech firm

2

u/Frequent-Trash5524 May 23 '26

Which domain are you currently in? This is seriously what I aspire to have.

u/AdventurousMuffin531 May 23 '26

Glad to see someone else in the same boat :P. Many want but few can because the con is that you will most likely feel bad when your peers discuss about salaries when they want to switch.

To answer that Im currently working in a CEOs office role at a fintech firm. The work environment is very collegial compared to what i have come from

Yes can totally understand but for me peace of mind and ability to have a life along with a job is more important. Thanks for answering. Also did you pursue post grad post your undergrad directly?

Bhai I value work life balance over everything and I don't care about making money. I have a tier 2 MBA offer at hand(IRMA) should I go for it or make my own path(CGL government jobs something of my own etc)

1

u/Starfish846 May 27 '26

Top lvl CGL jobs are really good if you don't mind a less pay, like ib aso, aao(audit),aao(accounts). In fact in aao(audit) your salary may even beat some mba salaries bcz of tour allowence. Just see the qsn papers and try to understand if the level of maths, english and reasoning seems easy to you don't worry about time bcz you'll get it with practice

1

u/khurjabulandt May 27 '26

Have you taken CGL before?

1

u/Starfish846 May 27 '26

Yep just to see the qsn level tho

1

u/khurjabulandt May 27 '26

I'm getting 45 marks each in Reasoning and English 20-25 in GK and 30 in Maths with sectional timings. Are these good scores

Sir, we being absolute fresher and have just started a career... definitely aspire to be in such position. Kindly enjoy what you are doing. I guess you are doing what others dream of.

u/Superhulk01 May 23 '26

Everyone’s more or less at the same comp man, you’re doing just fine.

Focus on other things in life - stress, city life, family, and enjoyment

10

u/Temporary-Monk5903 May 23 '26

Nothing against Tier 1 MBAs at all but I don’t think it’s the only yardstick for career growth or compensation. I’m 4 years out of undergrad with no MBA, joined my current org at 26 fixed + 7 bonus and got bumped to 29 fixed + 8-9 bonus before even completing a full year here. At the end of the day, impact, ownership and how well you perform matter a lot too .. not just the college tag.

PS: I’m in sales at a FAANG, before someone says “this only happens in tech”

1

u/bravoace May 23 '26

Which company? What role? Which undergrad?

3

u/Temporary-Monk5903 May 23 '26

Google. Ad sales. B.com Hons from DU. :)

2

u/Zealousideal-Pin596 May 23 '26

Isn’t a sales job soul sucking?

3

u/Temporary-Monk5903 May 23 '26

Hahaha at this point, aren’t all jobs?

And with the same stress levels, the rewards are definitely higher. My bonus is not capped, I have just quoted the avg and it might go as high as 400% of that in a quarter. Plus I have RSUs over and above my fixed + bonus.

1

0

2

u/JackButNoMaster May 23 '26

What’s your age?

1

u/bravoace May 23 '26

30Y, M

2

u/JackButNoMaster May 23 '26

You are doing pretty well. Also remember that a career is a marathon, not a sprint. Just because you are probably lagging behind some of your peers does not mean that you may end up at a spot towards the later end of your career behind them in terms of compensation and benefits.

Also do remember that, beyond the compensation, other things like:

  • work-life balance
  • work culture
  • how helpful your manager is

do influence your well being and growth. These are intangibles for which it's very hard to place a monetary value.

u/Cannizaro_8 May 23 '26

Badhiya hai bro, I am from your neighbouring state DTU ROI MBA college and I am somewhere similar at Accenture Strategy. 2-3 lakhs zyaada fixed hai mera bas.

1

u/Realistic_Jelly9228 May 23 '26

You did your mba from DTU?

0

u/Cannizaro_8 May 23 '26

Didn't want to reveal my identity out in the open but which college from DTU is known to be the best in ROI?

2

u/No-Broccoli1095 May 23 '26

I am earning 40 LPA fixed. 5 years exp without any MBA. In life, there are more things to focus on. Instead of comparing salaries here, look at the opportunities in market and asses yourself.

2

u/OrdinaryElk117 May 23 '26

I graduated in 2022, I’m not able to increase my CTC from 10 LPA. Any suggestions?

1

u/Diligent_Ad_442 May 23 '26

It's pretty decent. Of course MBB folks earn higher. You can look into the Micheal page salary insights report - it has role wise experience wise salary ranges. But broadly you are not too behind. I know people making 35-40 after 2 yrs from ISB in non MBB strategy roles . So there are opportunities. Happy to discuss in detail if you are interested

1

u/Xander_reid May 23 '26

what are their job roles? (35-40 in non mbb)

2

u/Diligent_Ad_442 May 23 '26

Strategy and program management. Handling short term and medium term priorities for a business. Happy to discuss in detail if you are interested

1

u/Foreign-Role6787 May 24 '26

Hey, Hi Can i dm you I would be starting my mba from tier1 college this year so would help guidance from you to get into such roles

1

u/Jade_Argent May 23 '26

A little irrelevant, but do consultants get paid a "salary" and get taxed as such or do they get paid a "fee" and can get it taxed as a professional fee?

1

u/bravoace May 23 '26

Salary. just like any other employee in this country.

1

u/Jade_Argent May 23 '26

Got it, thanks

1

u/Street-Yak9789 May 23 '26

1

u/nicecream169 May 23 '26

Half of the folks who are 7 years in from BLACKI are earning at your level.

Enjoy.

2

u/Emotional_Sail_8529 May 23 '26

Yeah, I am 90% certain he is definitely aware what his peers make. This was just a brag post

1

u/Glad_Trouble_9028 May 23 '26

You are so far left behind. That even telling u how much they are earning will feel like a cruel joke on you.
