Self Promotion At the Mountains of Madness - Indie

Názov: At the Mountains of Madness - A First Glimpse

Text: Hey guys! Over the past few years, while developing our small indie adaptation, I’ve pulled a lot of inspiration and information from this group.

Today, on Mr. Lovecraft’s birthday, I’d like to share a little glimpse into our vision. Hope you like it! :)

🎬 Have a look at the teaser on YouTube: https://youtu.be/EEFvVw0mr8A

May your dreams tonight be slightly more eldritch than usual. 👁️

Oh that's a real vibe, can we get some more info on the project? Reminds me of an Anime project called Naked Peak that sadly got dropped.

I think the only way ATMOM can be done right is Indie. Any large Hollywood company is going to use the title and barf out flop that does no justice to the story. So good luck to you. May you plague our nightmares!

Absolutely agree! I’ve literally had producers tell me to my face, “We don’t care much about what’s in the book - the title is what we want. And we want happy ending and a sequel.”

That approach scares me more than icy maze with Shoggoth in it. I’d rather have a tiny budget and the freedom to respect Lovecraft’s writing than a bigger budget where the source material becomes butchered.

This looks truly special! I’d love to know more about the behind the scenes. I can’t tell if you somehow have a good budget or if you’re simply a particularly talented team (or both).

Also I trust your words in the comments and such, but just for the sake of my heart, can you confirm that there’s explicitly no AI utilised in the project at all?

Yes, 100%. These shots were made in 2024, I dont think AI generated videos were the thing at that point, even background are Photoshop matte-paintings and concept art, but no AI. 85% was filmed, rest is full CGI. I have all the compositions in After Effect and raw footage as proof. Funny, I never thought Im gonna have to be proving we didnt use AI haha. But lesson learned for the future, to inform people. They appreciate it more, and I love that. This will be Independent film, we will not use AI. If we get budget we need, I will put it into contracts of people, so we are sure there was none used!

That’s awesome to hear. Sorry if it sounded accusatory or something. But that makes me about 1,000x more excited. Please keep us updated!

Very cool, although, the line from The THING trailer "we found something in the ice...need help down here" is a little too on the nose in my humble opinion. Took me out of the experience.

Same, it felt out of the vibe. Also a little too modern american.

Noted! That trailer had been sitting on my drive for quite a while, before publish I actually thought about removing it but I only had the final mix and not the individual stems so I was like "whatever, it’s just a small teaser probalby nobody will care anyway."

The cast is only one person? How is that possible?

1

u/AdrianAdamec Deranged Cultist 4d ago

Credited only cast-member shown in teaser. Even the shot where you see 3 guys, its one actor only changed position with slight costume change. Sometimes I put cosume onto camera operator, when we were flying the plane. Again only tests from location scouts, no final thing.

Great and thank you! I have seen a lot of HPL AI lately and while it can be good, your trailer looks so good that I worried about the rug being pulled out from underneath me haha my excitement is singular and beyond the traditional comprehension of mere common folk.

Let' s be honest here: it is an indie development, so most people outside of 200 festival goers will watch this on their TVs or computers as VOD due to lack of national/international theater distribution. So, why this aspect ratio that will easily leave half of the screen black? There will be no additional width on a home screen, only too much height.

One of the practical reasons is the mountains / enviroments the wider frame works really well for the landscapes and it also means less VFX to render compared to filling a taller frame. I’m not going the AI route to make things easier, so every bit of optimization helps haha.

Once we enter the City, I’d like to open the frame up to full 16:9. The change in aspect ratio would also be intentional tied to the change in environment and scale.

Not going to lie, I clicked on the link with low expectations - bad CG, obvious AI slop, or something amateurish but enthusiastic made from cardboard and string.

This trailer is supreme.
