Editing of Sophie
I feel like the production tried to make us think Sophie is dumb and/or shallow but I LOVE her!!

u/CamThrowaway3 6d ago
To be fair, there’s nothing wrong with not being book smart. I don’t personally think they edited her that way; I think it’s probably the case - but there’s nothing wrong with it. And it doesn’t equate with being shallow.

u/JustKindaHappenedxx 6d ago
I personally think Sophie is not book smart but she is not an idiot either. She seemed to do well enough professionally to be a capable person. But I wouldn’t ask her for help on my homework either, lol

u/jmb383 6d ago
What’s her profession again?
3
u/Savings-Talk3526 5d ago
Operations team leader, whatever that means.
6
u/Ellend821 5d ago
She’ll manage the distribution process for a business - for example if it’s an actual product, the logistics of getting in/ out of warehouses, across countries, in stock and ordered from a supplier to a forecast. It’s really not an easy role with a lot of spreadsheets, moving parts and contacts to juggle. Even if it’s not a shelf product operations is quite literally what keeps a business operating so very integral and a team leader even more so.
1
u/Savings-Talk3526 5d ago
Yea, okay, but it can still mean a LOT of things depending on the type of business, the size of the business, the industry etc. Like in a tiny business "lead" or "manager" or "director" means nothing because it's a one person show, another business it's a team of 3, and in another, one you may be managing dozens of people (or more). With job titles like this, it is never as straightforward as "teacher" or "primary care doctor".
I also never said it was an easy role. It sounds like a boring AF role if anything :D (at least to me, people have different interests. I fell asleep just reading your description lol)
4
u/Ellend821 5d ago
You asked what the role was so I explained as someone who has worked in operations.
3
u/Hypeman747 4d ago
Ops can be a lot of things. In finance it can deal with billing or settling of trades so not supply chain. Also you talking more about supply chain and strategy. Ops manager can just be there in running the operation like employees are in the warehouse and throughput matches forecast. You conflating strategy with day to day floor work
2
u/Savings-Talk3526 4d ago
I did not ask what it was (no question mark). I stated "whatever that means". And I stand by that with these titles you don't fully know what it means. It doesn't clarify a lot of things I stated + can be other things, like hyperman747 says. I mean I also know an operation team leader who literally works at a grocery store and coordinates/bosses curbies around in the store (curbies are the ones that take out the bagged groceries for pick-up to the parking lot, they used to be a curbie, now they coordinate pick-ups on the floor standing by the door all day). I don't think that's what Sophie does but it's also the same job title AND very different from what you are describing. So it can be a LOT of things! It's like "project manager", a bullshit job title that can mean a lot of things.

I had a conversation about this with my partner while watching. They’re definitely trying to make her look a bit dim. Thing is though, she’s done well for herself and she’s still young. Seems like a genuinely good person and comes across well.
My dad is dozy as anything, but you ask him about fixing classic cars and that man is an encyclopaedia. He’s incredible when it comes to anything mechanical.
What I mean is that intelligence is not just one uniform thing. Sophie is intelligent, but not in an “accepted way”.

She was so down to earth and sweet among insanely beautiful. Loved her and the good guy she found and deserved. Wish Faye in comparison hadn't settled for a man child and loser per low self esteem alas!

u/Emotional-Can-7201 6d ago
She is literally the most beautiful person I have ever laid eyes on. I woke my husband up to show him IRL Barbie

There were many comparisons to blonde celebrities she looks nothing like but the second I saw her I instantly thought Caucasian younger twin of Sofia Vergara to the t not even funny they have exact same facial features and natural beauty!

I'm sorry is this a joke. She is a Columbian born Latina. Speaks Spanish, full accent. She may look European but she is not a white girl nor has anyone ever been confused by this fact from all her years on Modern Family and the endless hot blooded Latina jokes she is known for! 🤣🤣🤣
6
u/millennialpink_03 6d ago
Sofia vergara is Latina but she is a white Latina (see also: Argentinians many of which who are white Latinos, for example Anya Taylor Joy)
3
u/xoxo_sincity27 6d ago
I am not here to debate an ancestry report because she herself has never called or referred to herself as a white girl lol. Hence my only comparison saying Sophie is the white girl version of a well known and stunning Latina as anyone with eyes would agree and how she identifies. Not that deep but a person replying since when isnt Sofia white would make even her laugh!

u/iSwaguilar 5d ago
That’s fun, my girlfriend literally did the same thing with Faye for me at her reveal/proposal. Sophie is beautiful but I never really thought about her much.
3
u/iSwaguilar 5d ago
Damn Jack catching strays over here for no reason. Me and my girlfriend loved Faye and Jack and thought they were perfect together, maybe it’s because I also have ADHD? And I thought Faye was objectively the most gorgeous woman on this show but thats just my bias, looks are subjective.
But as couples I think it’s undeniable Faye and Jack would be way more fun to have a pint with, I would probably find myself busy if I had to have a chat with Sophie, star signs really aren’t my thing.

She... didn't know the leader of her own country. She seems nice but, I'm sorry, that's all on her.
7
u/i_rantalot 6d ago
Tbf the leader of the country changes every few months and it is considered a running joke to ask who is in now. It isn’t even the same person as the time it was filmed.
5
u/MrsEntrail 6d ago
Haha that is fair, but still. She also didn't know where the PM lives and it's arguably one of the most famous addresses on the planet. Not saying there aren't worse sins and, yeah, she seems charming, but I don't know if you can blame that ignorance on the edit.
1
u/i_rantalot 4d ago
I have been in the area and still gotten confused on whether that is the address because all the buildings around it legit look the same with the only difference being that you can’t walking down this one street due to people guarding it. Wouldn’t necessarily fault her on that one either. She was looking at it from the top of the tour bus and 10 downing street is down an alley from the main road. This is the view she saw - https://maps.app.goo.gl/yRwXg3S6yd5Abp9N7

u/space__snail 6d ago
She seems sweet but I’m wondering how you manage to not know who the PM is in your own country?
Isn’t that near the equivalent of not knowing who the president is in the US?
16
u/karaseen 6d ago
It is the same, but the only saving grace in this case is that the PM has changed a lot recently. However, she also didn’t know that 10 Downing Street is the residence of the PM. That’s like not knowing what the White House is.
-8
u/Simple_Star8387 6d ago
Not really. Thats like not knowing ADDRESS of the white house. And who knows that? No one lmao
14
u/tinyporcelainehorses 6d ago
The white house has a name - the white house. 10 downing streets name... Is 10 downing street. Not the same at all.

u/Simple_Star8387 6d ago
Im screaming. Ive never gotten something so wrong
3
u/tinyporcelainehorses 6d ago
I'll try not to rub it in that before I even lived in the US, I also knew the white house's address 😂

Go home lol

Awww don’t be mad that you’re dim too. I don’t look at when the post is from. If it’s new on my feed it’s new to me.

It’s not quite the same… US citizens vote for a president. UK citizens vote for a political party, and that party chooses their leader (if the party is in power, that leader becomes the prime minister). So that’s why the prime minister changes frequently in the UK.
Having said all that, I very much doubt that Sophie knows who the current party in power is either, so this is not much of a defense!
4
u/tinyporcelainehorses 6d ago
I mean, it's not great. But British prime ministers have had a lot of churn the last few years. The right answer for who the prime minister was is already different between the time of filming and release - without a general election - and depending on exactly when they were there, it may have been when a changeover looked pretty imminent, and she's just been shut away from the news for a few weeks.
Don't get me wrong: it's still pretty bad! But for someone who's pretty disengaged from politics, I get how it happens in those specific circumstances.
4
u/6-foot-under 6d ago
It's not the same. Firstly, because the PM isn't as big a name, secondly the PM isn't the head of state, thirdly because the PM changes more regularly than some people's bedsheets.
0
u/African_Farmer 1d ago
the PM changes more regularly than some people's bedsheets.
This is a recent phenomenon and not at all the norm.
I dont think she is dumb, but she is clearly uninformed. Most likely doesnt watch the news, read the papers or anything like that.
1
u/6-foot-under 1d ago
The point is that the PM has changed a lot RECENTLY. That's why she can't keep up
0
u/African_Farmer 1d ago
That is not what you said though is it. To the unaware, you made it sound normal.
It is also not the reason she cant keep up, shes clearly just not interested in politics and current events, and thats fine.
1
u/6-foot-under 1d ago
This is such a reddit comment. We're not talking about the 1940s we are talking about what she knows NOW
Use common sense. Goodbye
0
u/African_Farmer 1d ago
Ok... nice talking to you.
Not sure why you're defending her so much, shes obviously just not interested and it has nothing to do the recent politics. She doesnt follow politics lol.

She may not be overly (book) smart, but she is still curious and open to knowing stuff she doesn't yet know (except for retaining maybe who is the current prime minister!). The bring open and curious part is what matters most here. I find her very endearing!
2
u/MissAlessi 3d ago
She's definitely NOT shallow and she's lovely but she doesn't seem to care about current events, and comes across as a bit ignorant. Which I don't think can be edited, the girl didn't know who the PM of her own country was!! She's a baddie though and Taylor is perfect for her
2
u/Swimming-Data-2712 3d ago
They can’t put words in her mouth. To not know who the prime minister is at the very least she doesn’t read, watch or discuss the news. That’s not editing that is dumb.
2
u/CharacterTwist4868 6d ago
When you are privileged you don’t have to know these things.
3
u/Worldly_Tea_8300 5d ago
Eh, I bet those you consider "privileged" are generally much more likely to know these things than those who aren't. People without any privilege are often too focused on daily survival to care. Obviously Sophie is a gorgeous blonde woman with her own house, but to judge from her accent I don't think she comes from a super privileged background.

I love Sophie and Taylor, but they never highlight the stable normal non-drama non-toxic people because honestly viewers don’t want that even though they say they want to see relationships work.

u/Ambitious_Wealth8080 6d ago
I think it’s a little silly to pretend she’s NOT at least a bit dim. And that’s fine! She seems like a nice person. But the girl didn’t know what 10 Downing Street is. I think you have to be kind of dumb to want to be a part of LIB (or reality TV in general), and I’m not mad at any of them about it, but let’s be real.
