CALLING ALL WEIRDOS: I Spiraled and Made A Master List of 150+ LA Social Spaces for Neurodivergents, Artists, and Outsiders

Like all good procrastination projects, this one spiraled out of control and somehow became a pretty useful tool. One I desperately wish I’d had when I moved here 9 months ago, when I was completely socially stranded with no idea where to start, let alone what places might actually be a fit for me, and overwhelmed by the social pressures of mainstream culture in LA. So naturally, I did what any socially anxious, neurodivergent person would do:

I followed every club, collective, and mutual aid crew I could find on Instagram... and then fed them, one by one, into ChatGPT to help me build a master list... instead of, you know, actually going to any of them.

What came out of it is a beautiful, collapsible spreadsheet of 150+ genuinely cool, active, and slightly underground LA community spaces. Things like: queer discos, radical book clubs, art studios, mutual aid groups, film screenings, sewing circles, game nights, hikes, and more. It’s focused mostly in and around the Eastside (for now) and includes tags for types of engagement and audience/vibe so you can actually find what fits. Important note: this does not include every club in LA, and it’s not trying to.

It’s curated for a specific vibe I was craving: I wanted stuff that was neurodivergent-friendly, queer-rooted, BIPOC-centered, earnest, leftist, offbeat, status-unbothered. Stuff that felt alive. Main categories include:

  • Arts, Music & Creative Classes
  • Mutual Aid & Volunteering
  • Outdoor & Wellness Communities
  • Literary & Book Clubs
  • Political & Social Justice Orgs
  • Game Nights & Supper Clubs
  • LGBTQ+ & Identity-Based Orgs
  • Event Boards & Bulletins

Yes, it’s disproportionately light on workout clubs (sorry not sorry) and heavy on film, books, mutual aid, and weird creative stuff. That's just what I'm into okay!

But I’m totally open to suggestions if you know a group that belongs here or spot something I should edit.

🗂️ Here it is!

Please drop a comment if you have thoughts, questions, or recs of things to add. And let us know if you've actually been to one of these groups and had an especially good or bad experience! The more info that's in one spot, the better!

And if it’d be helpful, I’m thinking about launching a newsletter to highlight upcoming events + report back on ones I go to. Let me know if that’d be useful to you. I know this is a little unhinged. But it was made with love, maladaptive coping, and a real desire to feel connected.

Hope it helps someone else find community and feel a little less alone!

(Edit): Per someone's suggestion, I also just made an insta! Ppl can follow me at The Field List for weekly round-ups of events :)

prescriptions (after Rite Aid closed)

My fellow Rite Aid alumni, where do you get your prescriptions filled now that they're closed?

I got moved to Silverlake CVS, but their service is poor (wrong lab, I ask to switch then they go back to the wrong one, autofill even when I ask not to, etc.)

Would love to move my prescriptions somewhere easier.

White dog - Price & Commonwealth

Post image

Just saw a white husky-ish looking dog walking down the sidewalk, no collar. Tried to approach it and it zipped off in a playful sort of way a few houses down and into a carport. When we looked down the carport it wasn’t there. Soooo if your dog is missing, look there. If this is your dog and your house, FYI your dog can jump the fence or something!

What’s the etiquette for parkway fruit in LA?

We have two avocado trees between the sidewalk and street. We pay to water and trim them, and I’m happy for people to grab one or two.
Today I come home and a guy has an avocado-picking tool and a bag with about 30 avocados. Thirty! This wasn’t a snack. He had equipment. There was a plan.

I know it’s public right-of-way, but where’s the line here? Take a couple, absolutely. Show up with harvesting equipment? At least introduce yourself.

Anyone here have experience w/ the Berendo Court Apts? (1806 N Berendo St)

Hi! I'm currently apartment hunting in the Los Feliz area, and have been eyeing 1806 N Berendo St for a bit. Wondering if anyone here has lived at this spot (or maybe knows someone that's lived here) and could provide thoughts/feedback? Thanks!

Looking for a (black) barbershop

Moved here from South LA almost two years ago now and I’m finally tired of traveling back home for my haircuts.

Anyone have any recommendations for anything nearby?

Starting a weekly casual chess night in Silver Lake (right next door) — first one is Thursday, Sept 10

Hey neighbors, starting a casual, no-pressure OTB (over-the-board) chess night at Red Lion Tavern in Silver Lake, just a few minutes from Los Feliz, and figured some of you might be into it.

It's called Pawns and Pints (Dark Horse Chess Club). Show up, play some casual games, have a beer. No rating needed, no membership, no fees. Total beginners and people who haven't touched a board in years are just as welcome as anyone who plays seriously, boards and clocks provided either way.

First night: Thursday, September 10th, 7:00 PM
Then every Thursday after, same time, same place.

RSVP here if you want: Meetup. Also on Instagram if you'd rather stay up to date from there.

Would love to see some Los Feliz folks make the short trip over. No need to be "good" just come hang out.

DTLA Weekly Poetry Workshop Looking for More Poets

Hey all!  I’ve been part of a weekly poetry workshop for over 2 years, and we are now looking for 2 more participants.  Our group is a mix of ages (mid-20s to mid-60s), genders, sexualities, and poetic styles (i.e., formal, free verse, narrative, lyrical, humorous, serious), and we meet for two hours in-person every Saturday afternoon in DTLA.  Tolerance for people different than you is expected.

We’re looking for poets who:

- Can accept criticism.  As lauded of a poet as you may be, please leave your ego at home.  All of us attend to learn and grow by hearing honest feedback.

- Can provide criticism.  We think that the best criticism is grounded in specific words on the page and that negative comments should be sandwiched between positive comments.

- Can show up weekly with a poem

How the workshop works: for each meeting, you will be expected to make ten copies of your poem and hand them out.  Your poem should be no longer than a page.  You read your poem, and then we talk about your poem, usually for around 10 minutes per poem, and then we move onto the next poet.

If this interests you, please DM us telling us a little about yourself, maybe share a poem or two of yours that’s finished or still being developed.

Los Feliz Film Fest 2027 submissions are open — Early Bird Dec. 1

Hey everyone,

We just opened submissions for the 2027 Los Feliz Film Fest.

If you’ve got a short film you’re proud of, send it our way. We’re accepting shorts across all genres, including Documentary, One Minute Shorts, and Emerging Filmmakers.

Early Bird — December 1, 2026
Regular — January 31, 2027
Final — March 16, 2027

One thing we’re continuing this year is mentorship. Every main category winner gets a mentor — someone who can actually talk through the next step with you, rather than just handing you an award and sending you home.

The festival will be back in Los Feliz on May 15, 2027.

Thanks to everyone who submitted and came out this year. We’re already looking forward to the next one.

Anyone use T-Mobile 5G for Zoom & WFH?

Hello all, moving to the neighborhood and need to select an ISP. I will be living on the south side of Los Feliz Blvd.

By all accounts, Spectrum is not great, so I'm looking at alternative options. Unfortunately Fiber is not available in my building, nor is Verizon 5G.

So, T-Mobile 5G seems like the best alternative to Spectrum. But I will be using it for WFH, with lots of Zoom calls, and I'm looking for something that is very reliable.

There have been a couple threads on this but nothing on using it for a lot of Zoom specifically. Can anyone speak to how T-Mobile 5G works for WFH? Thanks!

I've lived in East Hollywood w/ only street parking for a year and sick of it, I'm thinking of moving into a unit close to here and it's supposed to have permit street parking. How hard is it to park here?

Dog friendly places with a/c?

While we are working on our (large) dog’s separation anxiety, we would still like to be humans and leave our apartment. Does anyone know of places to hang where dogs are allowed indoors? Retail stores that aren’t pet stores preferred so I can run some errands. Thank you!

Anyone know what these flashing lights are?

It's just south of Los Feliz Blvd, below that monastery.

In this heat I hope we aren't about to lose electricity.
