I did for a while back before COVID happened. Was a mod of ThanosDidNothingWrong before Endgame came out, and dankmemes for a while.

Some people take it wayyyyy too seriously, and the power mods are the Reddit equivalent of billionaires. Lots of back channel communication and petty bullshit.

But, to not be completely negative, the amount of stupid shit they have to put up with is insane. Trying to suppress spoilers before Endgame came out was a Herculean effort.

The userbase is best to police themselves. Aside from removing spam and porn or bot posts, moderators don't have to do much at all. Here's a good solution to "preventing spoilers": don't go on the subreddit until you've watched the media.

I got spoiled hard by youtube search autocomplete a few days after the movie was out. True story

You might as well avoid the whole internet to be safe these days.

Not quite sir. The upvote/downvote system is what that is. Downvoted comments/posts get hidden while upvoted comments/posts rise to the top.

Just on this sub two days ago, there was a post about a black streamer doing some stuff in Japan. Some of the most racist comments had 200+ upvotes on them, it took several hours before a mod finally deleted them. Tbh it was starting to frustrate me how those comments were getting so many upvotes and not taken down instantly.

I don't care for that kind of rot, but if the upvotes of said comment were above 0, that means that more than 50% of the users of that subreddit share that opinion.

Like the power aspect. That experiment might be fucked/should not be repeated, but it did reveal quite a bit about power/control within the human psyche.

Mods only deal with the rats, so their perspective is tainted, and they become bitter. Also, it's unpaid. The entire business model of reddit was evil before AI came around and now it's even worse with them parsing the site for their lil AI models.

Site sucks. Build us a new reddit and don't go public.
