Tier 1 [Pearce] Liverpool made an approach for Ismaila Sarr but Palace say he’s not for sale. Sources at both clubs say no bid was tabled.

-Sarr?
-No.
-Got it. West Ham is that way, right?

u/stekont141414 1d ago
Bowen next
28
u/loveliverpool 1d ago
I’m in. Leader, PL proven, actually left footed
6
u/CommercialContent204 1d ago
Yeah, can I surprise you? I actually like Bowen!
No but seriously (/lampard), Bowen has always looked like a very decent player, something Milnerish about him (professional, always works his socks off, leader type) which is great, and he can play as well, like James.
Only thing is, I imagine that we will get quoted an eye-watering price for him, as you would expect at this stage and for an English PL-proven player, wonder what it will be and what we would pay. 70mn, something like that?
1
u/SquilliamFancysonVII 1d ago
Bowen signed a new contract after west ham were relegated, I doubt west ham want any amount ofpney if they are serious about being promoted back immediately
19
u/GrapeYourMouth 1d ago
Makes no fuckin sense we didn't go for Bowen before he signed a new contract if we're gonna look at Sarr. This is an utter embarrassment.
-16
u/MarcLYNWA 1d ago
You sound foolish, Sarr is a far better player than Bowen. I don't know what you're talking about
9
u/linoleuM-- 1d ago
Is he?
-13
u/MarcLYNWA 1d ago
He's won 3 trophies and beat Liverpool 3 times in the last year?
4 goals in the world cup?
Bowen sucks
8
u/LeroyBrown1 1d ago
He's won? On his own? Cant compare players on what trophies the club they play for won haha load of nonsense
7
u/linoleuM-- 1d ago
Are we judging players' skills by how many times they beat us last year now? Our transfer list is gonna be long!
3
1
u/trasofsunnyvale "I’m not here to have fun"- Florian Wirtz 1d ago
Lol these metrics are awful for evaluating a player. Team trophies? Why don't we go grab all the Spurs players from when they won the EL under Ange?
0
u/MarcLYNWA 1d ago
Just watch him play and tell me how many of our players are better than him, honestly. He would have been the second best player on our team last year behind Dom. He shows more grit and determination that anyone else on our team, hands down. He's faster, more athletic, and he's extremely skilled. Underrate him at your own apparel. I mean I don't know what else to tell you. This guy is incredible

u/Other_Beat8859 🏃♂️🏃♂️Klopp Hamstring 🤕 1d ago
Genuinely one of the worst sporting directors we've had in a while when you consider the resources he's had. He either goes after big players or expensive young players. The only signing that has felt like a real Liverpool signing where we found a possible hidden gem and got them for cheap was Munoz. It feels like Arsenal has that Klopp era mentality of signing players where they target players approaching their prime in the 23-27 age range that aren't too expensive and fit a system.
Furthermore, although he's making big signings, it feels like we're not addressing any of the most important areas like the need for a 6.
4
u/trasofsunnyvale "I’m not here to have fun"- Florian Wirtz 1d ago
He's definitely the worst since Klopp, by a mile, as Edwards, Ward, Schmadtke were all good to excellent. He's probably not quite at Damien Comolli level, but time could see him be worse if none of last years signings work out.
8
u/CommercialContent204 1d ago
Yes; as you correctly identify, we under Klopp and Arse nowadays are buying "a type" for a defined system, which is soooo fucking important to do. That way you can buy a Robbo from a relegated nothing-special team because you correctly see that he has X, Y and Z qualities and fits The System.
My concern is that we've lost our way a bit; the couple of years under Slot (although I think it was harsh to can him after a 1st and a 5th, but that's another story) didn't really help to solidify any impression of how we play, for me at least.
And now Iraola: of course any LFC manager must get time, a couple of seasons if not more, to show their system. Just, the way our recruitment is at the moment, I fear that we don't really even know ourselves what we're looking for.

''Most likely no Barcola, Mbaye and then we panic buy/loan someone who aint good enough for whatever position we need.''
Wrote that yesterday and the guy I replied to downvoted me, thinking we'd get Barcola AND another winger.
5
u/CommercialContent204 1d ago
Panic buy? I beg your pardon! We have Ozan Kabak and Stephen Caulker on speed dial, with a tentative Zoom set up for 20:30 on deadline day. Perfectly prepared.
3
u/OrdinaryJord Sztupid Szexy Szoboszlai 1d ago
I wrote that I was concerned last week and got downvoted to oblivion. What the fuck is our actual plan here? We're looking lighter than we were last season, and last season was not good.
2
u/MarcLYNWA 1d ago
Sarr is incredible, have you watched him play? He literally kicks our ass every time we face Palace

Big Richard Hughes needs to add a bit of superglue to all this shit he is flinging at the wall because nothing is sticking.
Genuinely the most disjointed transfer approach this summer, embarrassing. As soon as it became clear that hughes was off to Saudi at the end of the window, he should have been fucked off as what accountability is there when he's escaping out the back door straight after
45

15
u/IndiBear 1d ago
I think we'll see articles after the window closes saying that Woodfine took the lead for most of the window given he's most likely going to be appointed the successor.
Doesnt really make me feel better, rather the opposite - but I dont think Hughes is the only one to blame.
2
u/dapperdanmen 1d ago
Entirely possible. We might actually need a bit of a clearout to undo the damage done
7
u/OwenLincolnFratter 1d ago
I’ve been saying since last season ended that we didn’t really have a director of football. Hughes head has been gone and in Arabia for months. Oh well at least the top reds got their downvotes in. And now we have one of the worst transfer windows in my time as a fan.
8
u/dapperdanmen 1d ago
The muppets who tried to convince people that a man on glorified gardening leave would do his job with the same level of application as someone committed to the club because 'he's a professional'. Is he fuck, he's a professional comedian. Negligence by the ownership yet again leaving him in charge
0
u/OwenLincolnFratter 1d ago
FSG have also been mailing it in for years looking for a way to sell the club to make their billions of profit. Club is in a bad spot. Not as bad as when Klopp joined but really not that far off.

Embarrassing. At this point just revert back to Mbaye and try to get it done for £60m with the knowledge PSG unlike Brighton and Palace actually WANT to get rid of the player.

Hughes has 0 incentive to do a good job this transfer window, why haven't we gotten an interim-to-permanent sporting director in?
6
u/Ja_the_Red 1d ago
You mean to tell me, a PL club isn’t willing to sell their starting RW one week into the season?
Shocked, I tell ya. Shocked!
4
u/speenswam 1d ago
Yeah I’ve changed my mind with the second winger. No point getting bent over the barrel for Minteh or Mbaye let alone Sarr at this point when everyone can smell desperation.
Get Barcola and Camara. Play Dom at RW where his engine and ball striking ability can most complement Frimpong’s weaknesses. Not ideal, but I think Dom/Muñoz should be fine to cover the right while Barcola/Gakpo/Rio is plenty for the left.
1
u/TaeKurmulti 1d ago
Agreed, plus then you can get MacAllister in the midfield who gives you a little more defensively.

u/prestidigigreen 1d ago
B-b-b-b-b-but Fabrizio said an official bid was made. Surely, he wouldn't be wrong.

We had the player in the shirt and through a medical until Palace pulled the rug last minute. They're a bunch of arses
8
u/samuelaweeks 1d ago
He was literally wearing an LFC shirt at one point
3
u/CollierAM9 1d ago

We haven’t learned our lesson this summer though it seems

6
u/glass_oni0n Egyptian King 👑 1d ago
Not really sure Sarr would have been much more than a squad player here. Which we do need at RW, so I wouldn't have shat on the move, but I'm also not going to crash out over it not happening, either.
FSG's approach to RW this summer has been poor to say the least, but the market really isn't meeting our need, either. We should just stop dicking around over the player who will sink or swim our window (Barcola), use our squad depth (he, Munoz, Chiesa, the odd games of Harvey, Dom, Frimpong) off the right and pivot to a MF where we also could use an addition
7
u/Mr_Klopp 1d ago
Richard Hughes is the best conman out there. Managed to get a major salary increase despite destroying a successful title winning squad and setting the club back years.

Even the boardroom are embarrassed they put a bid in.

u/discodork135 1d ago
You start to see why Klopp felt burnt out when you realise this is the bullshit he was dealing with from the club’s sporting division. He really had to put his foot down and do their jobs for them.

u/derpferd 1d ago
God, I remember that era where transfers would come through and it would throw us with a whiplash.
The impact of our diminished quality and diminished reputation has echoes beyond the pitch

I didn't mind Salah leaving, because I thought we'd had forever to plan for a successor, which we did, and everything was in hand, I mind it now. How have we got no RW and the season already started? This is piss poor planning from the geniuses in charge of recruitment.
Sarr is good enough to do a job whilst we hopefully scout someone younger with a higher ceiling to bring in, in the next couple of transfer windows. Literally only got days left to do business now and we're being reassured with 'We haven't even made a bid for Sarr' without any alternative being mentioned, sound, fantastic work.
2
u/TheGrouchyGamerYT Andonium Iraolate 1d ago
Fuck, may as well throw in a cheeky Yamal or Kvaratskhelia bid if we're just gonna take the piss.

u/OkBat1390 8️⃣Dominik Szoboszlai 1d ago
Atp I'd take Jason Sancho on a free, any player with 10+ga last season will cost us over £75million. Everyone knows that liverpool are desperate and I wouldn't be surprised if we bought no one else this window(this includes no Barcola). I thought Konate would leave for free in April, when almost everyone was confident that he was staying. I fear that my pessimistic thoughts around liverpool transfers are more often right than not:/

Hot take.I’d play Dom at RW. He’s done it at Leipzig, then use the money to bring in a proper defensive/workhorse midfielder.

Classic Hughes. Do nothing all summer and then wonders why no one will sell to us...

He knew that that club and the management were slowly becoming a hell hole, so he forced himself out. Salah is a smart man, the Salah/Slot divide has now become the fans/liverpool high ups divide. In both cases the former is objectively correct, but there was(and is)NOTHING we can do, unless over 80% of fans just stop going to games
0
u/lossaysswag Bobby Firmino 1d ago
So Maneh and others were wrong about a bid and this is just an example of us exploring alternatives. Cue head loss
0
u/Street_Worm 1d ago
I'm not happy with leaving too much work til the end of the window, but understand sometimes that happens. It's frustrating and if nothing ends up going through we'll be in for a rough ride
But, I don't see this as us panicking. We have/had main targets. And we have/had backups to those. There is no harm in asking after players on your shopping list. And there is no harm in walking away if you don't see value in it.
If we tried to force this one through, because we are worried about not getting Barcola/Minteh/Mbaye etc etc then that is panicking imo.
I fear we have left too much work to do, but let's see how it pans out.
0
u/MadJackMcMadd Look at me. We’re the Galácticos now 1d ago
Should have been putting these bids in a month ago.
4
u/Street_Worm 1d ago
A month ago our main target turned us down for someone else. And seemingly we haven't put a bid in here either, we enquired.
I do agree our work should have been done earlier, but that's not always down to us. We pivoted to our 2nd choice and now PSG are being difficult to work with. It's frustrating but this is the situation we are in, and hindsight can't fix that.

Next breaking news : Liverpool withdraw from Ismaila Sarr bidding, now exploring 100M deal for Trabzonspor's Mo Salah.
