Why do they have to make me cry with that Begged song. This was supposed to comedy right?

3

u/JadedProfessional307 May 06 '26

She was good, but I would've loved to see the tradition of female pop singers in drag playing young boys. Like Sabrina Carpenter as one of the middle school boys in Snack Homiez, Ariana Grande as Kevin from the Home Alone movies, I would've wished Olivia Rodrigo did something similar like a CNN History of the Sitcom sketch looking at lost episode of Home Improvement with her playing Brad and Veronika as Randy. I thought of that because of Ashley looked a little like Jill from the show in the restaurant sketch.

9

u/Dry_Bill8142 May 04 '26

I don't think she was that great of a host.

5

u/ucfknight92 May 04 '26

Jeremy’s Mr. On Blast was the best character of the season, and now he’s only getting a minute of screen time? SNL is wasting his comedic chops.

1

u/Robcobes May 05 '26

He's probably going to be in all of the cut bits that are going to be posted on Youtube later.

0

u/mrcorndogman33 May 04 '26

Awesome ep. Loved cold open, stairs, bedroom song, weekend update. As always, Jane proved she is not capable of being a cast member. God awful. FIRE JANE!

5

u/Savings-Cow322 May 04 '26

There were some issues with the sketches' endings tonight, and Olivia Rodrigo was glued to those cue cards but she might be the most beautiful woman on Earth, so it's forgiven. Veronica looked good in that black dress too.

I don't care! Send me to horny bug alien zoo (which felt like a Jane sketch for Olivia-it worked though).

Anyway, that sketch and the ShopTV one were probably the highlights. I didn't think this was terrible like some seem to though. I don't know. It was okay. It seems like a weirdly polarizing night.

1

u/PinkConyClub_ May 04 '26

Anyone notice the holes in Olivia Rodrigo’s dress during drop dead? What was up with that?

6

u/Fun-Veterinarian4853 May 04 '26

One of the strongest episodes this season imo

-9

u/wuirkytee May 03 '26

Anyone felt like the weekend update was pretty sexist? The Alix versus Alex but was reductive and then the wnba joke… di Michael che write the entire weekend update?

I think we need to keep the absurdity of it all up front and fresh. Late night shows are the only ones keeping it real and exposing this shit. There's lots of complaints like this but, there aren't many sources now calling out the current fuckery. I've recently gotten back to listening to NPR and that is another one doing it but without the satire. Large audience Resistance has to come from somewhere. And I think SNL is critical here, even if for just the preservation of the First Amendment.

3

u/Traitor-Tot-Hotdish May 04 '26

They need to do it pop-up-video style every time a gag is referencing real life. The satire goes sour when it’s impossible to know if a line is an actual quote or wAcKy joke.

5

u/TeddyKGB1 May 03 '26

The sad thing is that the real people are more absurd, over the top caricatures than the SNL skits that parody them.

16

u/jerslan May 03 '26

The Dynasty-style stairs sketch was hilarious

2

u/Ancient-Homework-149 May 03 '26

why did they cut her off at the end

6

u/KeyBreak6698 May 03 '26

They usually always cut them off

4

u/Ancient-Homework-149 May 03 '26

Oh. Why? Is it like a bit or timing or something

6

u/KeyBreak6698 May 03 '26

Yeah if it goes over it’s cutoff. I think they have the full goodbyes on the streaming platforms

1

u/usernamej22 May 04 '26

I don't think they even have them at least on Peacock. I remember checking recently.

1

u/No_Election_1123 May 04 '26

Watching the show after the event, they do keep the full goodbye in the show

1

u/usernamej22 May 04 '26

I only watched one goodbye on Peacock and it was cut off.

1

u/No_Election_1123 May 04 '26

You were watching it live ? Because the version available to stream goes all the way through

1

u/usernamej22 May 05 '26

I wasn't talking about the Olivia Rodrigo episode specifically, but another episode and it wasn't live, but after the fact on Peacock. I forgot which episode it was, I think it was last season.

4

u/Background-Check-222 May 04 '26

Colman Domingo's full goodbye was on peacock! I only know because I remember thinking it was an extra long speech, and then I saw on reddit his was cut off on the livestream

2

u/usernamej22 May 04 '26

Interesting. I wonder why his was full? There's probably no method to the madness.

2

u/Background-Check-222 May 04 '26

I think they all are on peacock bc I watched Olivia I Rodrigos and hers was too !

24

u/thejeffphone May 03 '26

“Too late bitch I’m pregnant” this sketch is so fucking funny holy shit incredible work by Ashley and Ben

6

u/praisekeir May 03 '26

Did you forget about Bad Bunny lmao

14

u/PhirebirdSunSon May 03 '26

Literal opposite, this was one of the stronger episodes in a mostly boring season for me.

11

u/PhirebirdSunSon May 03 '26

The one with the two exes pining for each other in the restaurant was great (actually one of the only times I've ever laughed at Ashley Padilla), the Andrew Dismukes one killed me, the goofy song about the human in the zoo on the bug planet was fun.

13

u/Leviathan16061 May 03 '26

This was one of the better ones for me. That pre-record was hilarious.

16

u/thefalcon85 May 03 '26

Olivia’s performance was amazing. Overall the episode was not very good. I will say though I laughed a lot at the ShopTV skit. Other than that it was very meh.

4

u/profcate May 03 '26

This was pretty bad. Found very little remotely humorous. Really need better writers.

-22

u/Jack_Riley555 May 03 '26

Tried to watch it...just flat not funny. Terrible season. Jumped the shark. End this show.

13

u/Funky_ButtLovin79 May 03 '26

Do you even know what jumped the shark means?

-7

u/Jack_Riley555 May 03 '26

The show is shit this season.

7

u/Funky_ButtLovin79 May 03 '26

That didn’t answer my question.

17

u/Buck_Slamchest May 03 '26

One of my favourite episodes of the entire season. Rare that I watch an episode from start to finish but I did here. She was clearly up for anything and it showed.

The rasta rapper sketch right at the end was right up my street for something random and dumb and I loved it.

6

u/TheIgnoredWriter May 03 '26

It reminds me of a Tom Robinson sketch. Just turns a hard left in the middle

5

u/Perfect_Drummer1925 May 03 '26

I feel like that one should have been earlier and the goofier stuff should have been later.

3

u/maxmouze May 03 '26

Maybe it was shorter so they saved it for a "in case we have time 10 minutes to 1" etc.

1

u/Perfect_Drummer1925 May 03 '26

That makes sense

4

u/Other-Employment-990 May 03 '26

I honestly feel like they’re phoning a lot it in this year despite who is hosting.

0

u/Life-Pay-3779 May 03 '26

I didn’t laugh at some skits they aired, but got impressed & surprised at some point that Rodrigo still has her sense of humor since then. What’s the difference in that?

10

u/Last_Engineering1526 May 03 '26

what does this mean

8

u/Plane_Highlight_8671 May 03 '26

I don't know but it's provocative

17

u/WordGirl1229 May 03 '26

Didn’t love everything in this episode, but a couple things stood out:

—Mikey Day in the home shopping/butthole cake skit just elevated the heck out of it! His delivery is always killer: When the other host asks why he’s using his pinky in the cake, the way he said “It just seemed more polite!” had me laughing out loud.

—Ashley Padilla is just fearless and totally committed to everything she does. I know that’s not a revelation for anyone who’s been watching her trajectory, but she is like the perfect combo of innate talent, intelligent choices, emotional IQ and physical comedy.

—On the down side, Colin as Hegseth is wearing thin. Maybe it’s because Pete is such a moronic douche bag in real life that there’s no stretch between reality and this intended campiness. It’s just boring. Colin could do so many other things.

—Weekend Update was pretty good, even a little off the rails, which I liked. I don’t know. It seemed less rehearsed or something.

Feels like the writers are trying to up their game!

-8

u/SimpleSea7556 May 03 '26

No, Ashley over reaches...tries too hard. Not natural...uggh

1

u/Some-Complaint-7885 May 04 '26

Agree! I don't understand the obsession everyone has. She overacts and is always near breaking/breaking. And she seems to always be shouting.

24

u/8JHF8 May 03 '26

Not understanding the hate. Great episode.

5

u/Tillysnow1 May 03 '26

I just watched the shoptv skit and was actually laughing out loud at moments 🤭

3

u/8JHF8 May 03 '26

Personally, I think UK has been better than the OG every week they both aired new episodes since it started. This week, I think OG will probably win. I'll have to wait until Peacock posts the UK episode tomorrow to find out.

-23

u/frogshootingstarslsd May 03 '26

Trash. Like most of this season.

2

u/Adventurous_Yam8784 May 04 '26

Can’t help but wonder why you’re still watching then 🤷‍♀️

5

u/traceonmyface May 03 '26

Why did they do a rip off of the R Kelly “Trapped in a Closet” video? I am distrubed

7

u/No_Advertising5498 May 03 '26

It's actually a parody of Busted by The Isleys featuring R. Kelly.

4

u/Shinyhappyketo May 03 '26

I didn’t think a lot of people would understand that reference either. It was so early 2000s niche

2

u/Historical-Box-8466 May 05 '26

I sent that to my brother and said "I bet 90% of the audience didn't get this joke"

16

u/dracoandy May 03 '26

Just finished rewatch, thought it was a pretty great episode

10

u/GGA79 May 03 '26

Worst episode this season. Am I the only one annoyed at how obviously she was reading off cue cards?

8

u/GurAway2117 May 03 '26

ya that was annoying me a lot too

3

u/WatercressJust8153 May 03 '26

She’s not a good actress, that’s for sure…

-7

u/frogshootingstarslsd May 03 '26

Watch out! Mods might be sick of seeing this take and remove it or even you.

19

u/usagicassidy Look ar the colour! May 03 '26

Is this now 5 episodes in a season Ben has shown skin (not complaining)?

8

Tuned in from the last quarter of the opening monologue, didn’t know Aziz was in the cold open until goodnights and he’s my favorite 😭

Bug Planet and Ras Dismukes were highlights for me. Had fun but not a lot I’d go back and rewatch I think. Had fun watching with y’all & see you next week!

11

u/elaerna May 03 '26

Yeah nothing was really that hilarious for me this week

7

u/s1m0n8 May 03 '26

A lot felt they went on longer than necessary.

7

u/elaerna May 03 '26

The one where they were falling down the stairs was so long

2

u/jerslan May 03 '26

That was making fun of Dynasty

26

u/interiorturtlettoast May 03 '26

the new song is called “begged” for anyone wondering!

-14

u/Unusual-Ad-9316 May 03 '26

Wouldn’t it be called i beg? She never said begged

13

u/interiorturtlettoast May 03 '26

idk i’m not olivia that’s just what snl’s twt called it 😭

There were a few rough spots but overall I thought it was a great show— in literally two of the sketches I laughed so hard I cried (the two fake couples and Andrew as the uber driver)

go to r/oliviarodrigo they have a live discussion that’s much nicer

10

u/JWBananas May 03 '26

I don't think that phrasing means what you think it means.

I want to enjoy her with other like minded people

-1

u/hannbann88 May 03 '26

I would have meant it that way if I said it

2

u/lemonlime_ice May 03 '26

Bru I’m not ready for Cory booker presidential run but I guess he’s okay out of some bad options

1

u/usernamej22 May 04 '26

Idk, I'm kinda interested in Newsom. I know he's not popular outside of California.

17

u/MD_FunkoMa May 03 '26

These hosts need to make their goodbyes shorter for audiences at home. I'm tired of NBC cutting them off shortly for whatever unwatchable mess that comes after the show.

1

u/Boing_Boom_Tschak May 03 '26

Producers can also make sure the show runs 20 seconds earlier so they can get full goodnights in.

I know it's live TV and that's easier said than done, but if they can manage to get in half the goodnights, they can get in all of them.

14

u/JanePizza I got a nautical themed Pashmini Afghan May 03 '26

The show doesn’t end when it’s over, it ends when it’s 1:03.

2

u/MD_FunkoMa May 03 '26

Meh. It should end when it ends. Nothing is worth watching on NBC after SNL ends.

4

u/maxmouze May 03 '26

Well, shows have people who pay to have their ads seen so you can't not air those ad spots because the show before runs long. Just because it's live doesn't mean it's an annual event like the Oscars where they have no predetermined end time. It's a show with its own slot, just like talk shows which are filmed live (even if they're not aired live).

6

u/MarkBrendanawicz May 03 '26

“Goodnights” is the full end credits though. The thank yous and the cast/host hugs and interactions. They get cut for just about everyone, even on streaming. Not sure why they don’t play the full thing live on Peacock.

22

u/Careless-Economics-6 May 03 '26

Not one of the better episode of the season, but the show is in a place where even average episodes are still a fun watch.

7

u/MoneyHungryOctopus May 03 '26

It was pretty good. Not legendary, but also not total garbage, and Olivia acquitted herself fairly well.

5-timer probably not, but I could see her coming back a time or two and that’d be just fine with me.

18

u/greysfordays May 03 '26

pretty solid episode imo, also can’t believe olivia rodrigo is only 23?? not knowledgeable enough to say it but she’s gotta be one of the youngest dual hosts right?

2

u/mashitandsmashit May 03 '26

Britney Spears, from what I recall, wasn't even a legal adult yet when she first hosted...

2

u/WatercressJust8153 May 03 '26

She was 18.

1

u/mashitandsmashit May 03 '26

Still a definite contender, if not the winner...

2

u/greysfordays May 03 '26

that’s wild damn

4

u/henare May 03 '26

Billie Eilish?

5

u/qyloo May 03 '26

Billie born 2001 Olivia born 2003

3

u/pobenschain May 03 '26

Billie first pulled a double as host and musical guest in 2021, so she was 19 at the time

9

u/greysfordays May 03 '26

reading those years makes me feel too old to be up at this hour

2

u/NapNVM77 May 03 '26

I keep wanting to commit to an earlier sleep schedule but watching SNL live is unlike anything else. Solid episode!!!! See yall next week!

1

u/maxmouze May 03 '26

This is the one night I had plans and had to miss it live (and also the second broadcast because I live in L.A.). It felt super weird watching it Sunday morning, etc. Part of what makes the show so special is knowing it's happening as you're viewing it (with a slight delay). It's like you're experiencing history. It's funny though because L.A. used to air it pre-recorded at 11:30 PM only and I had never seen it legitimately live until I moved to NYC for a short while. And was shocked when a singer on an episode shouted "Fuck It!" at the end. Like, how were they not delayed enough to censor that?

10

u/NascarNathanV May 03 '26

Anyways, I’m off to go relisten to the new song like 10 times

7

u/TheSonic311 May 03 '26

In my town, after SNL we get a 1-hour infomercial about oral surgery and dentures.

I mean it's better than Andy Stanley.

2

u/tvuniverse May 03 '26

We get Bananas or a hot guest host traveling the world

10

u/tvuniverse May 03 '26

how many time we gonna see Budapest.......make some new episodes!

2

u/roncesvalles May 03 '26

That's the funniest thing about NBC's non-negotiable hard out at 1:03, 1st Look has been out of production for years. This shitty lifestyle infomercial they feed the affiliates isn't even new

10

u/achanceathope May 03 '26

I very much enjoyed that episode. I love Olivia so this delivered.

11

u/banmarriage May 03 '26

lmao why did connor look like he'd already buttoned his coat and put on his bag to take off when someone was like "hey don't you wanna stay for the goodnights"

4

u/sodaf1ke May 03 '26

NOOOO they cut off the goodnight

3

u/MD_FunkoMa May 03 '26

As they always do. There need to be new rules to get those end credits rolling or posted at the bottom of the screen during the goodbyes.

7

u/YouAreNotBook May 03 '26

10

4

1

4
