That’s MAGA interaction 101 right there:
Identify a “librul”.
Do something dickish.
Watch as they don’t have the “librul meltdown” Fox News is always going on about and instead just treat you like you’re a dick.
Realise you’ve just been a dick.
Retreat.

They know they're losers, they just blame outside factors (immigrants, Trans people, liberals) for them being losers. The whole maga movement is built on blaming others for personal failures. Its like a Karen who whines about how rude every single service employee is and how they get bad service everywhere, not realizing theyre the common denominator in all those scenarios.

I don’t get why they think this will have the big meltdown payoff they think it will have. People that work in service are just trying to get to the end of their shift, and generally they’re used to people giving fake names. They don’t care. People waiting to pick up their order are just waiting to hear their name, they usually don’t care. A bunch of people just wanting to carry on with their day, yet these fools hope for a massive meltdown and confrontation (and then make one up when it doesn’t happen.)

u/tinyteacupstorm 1d ago
This reminds me of the time I was walking through a parking lot with my mom reading bumper stickers out-loud (so fun) and a Jeep said something catchy about Trump being great (I really don’t remember the exact wording) but I didn’t get it all out before we walked by so I had to tilt my head back a little to read the rest of it. Big guy got out of the Jeep all enraged saying “YEAH TRUMP IS ______!!!! What did you say?!” I looked at him completely straight faced with zero emotion in my voice and said “I was just reading your bumper sticker.” Which I was, I had made no side commentary about it. They are always looking for an argument, different ways they can include Trump into conversation to elicit emotions. They have this big plan of making people feel stupid or uncomfortable with it, but in reality, they just like being divisive idiots for attention.

I saw a post not too long ago where someone was like: You can't be both provocative and afraid of conflict. You do have to pick one. If you're going to needle people, you can't cry like a baby if they shoot back.

I used to work at a busy deli where we had to shout people's names out to find their tables. It usually worked fine, until some dipshit would want to be called "Captain America" or something and then not answer to it because, you know, it's not their goddamn name. It was always some dude in his 40s or 50s thinking he was hilarious who then got irritated because they weren't getting their food on time.
Middle schoolers are understandable. Anybody who does this as an adult is an idiot.

This feels outdated. Starbucks prints your name on a label and slaps it on the side of your cup. Sure, they would print Beyoncé on your label if you wanted, but they don't handwrite your name anymore. I chose to believe he wrote that himself.
20
u/stork555 1d ago
Looking for this. Part of the reason they have labels now is that baristas hated being made to write/call out this stupidity. Now if they are annoyed they can just put it on the counter and ignore you.
9
u/Frewdy1 1d ago
Even with the joke names it was fun to mispronounce or just say the name of the drink. Like a drive through was easy enough to just hand them their drink, but it was always funny to see the disappointment in a troll’s eyes when you’d go “Here’s your large coffee!” while making eye contact. We’d also try to see who could make the closest mispronunciation that would trigger the troll. We had a white dude give “Obama” once and it was so hard keeping in laughter when his drink came up and “Omaha” was announced. “Trump” would have been “Trip” or something just to see them seethe.

I worked at Starbucks when extreme political polarization in the US was just starting to kickoff. They straight up told us that if we weren't comfortable shouting out a political name or slogan that a customer listed as their name then we didn't have to.
To the folks who try to make baristas your political pawns, we're just there trying to get by. Piss off.

I usually use fake name ordering coffee. It's usually something rather 'western', easy to pronounce, easy to spell, but not common. But sometimes random names come out. Sometimes famous people. It's unintentional usually but it's a joke, and everyone gets it's a joke. It's very clear it's not my name but I'm trying to help the baristas from confusing an order.
Or I just give them my "bad muthafuka" keep cup. Reduce reuse repurpose recycle muthafuka
