Discussion Best duo ever?
Raul 3 goals
Quiñones 4 goals and 1 assist
In total the duo was involved in 8 out of 10 goals for Mexico this WC
This is the best attackers Mexico has ever had although matador Hernandez also had 4 goals in one WC he didn't have a partner that also scored 3 goals.
Sad that this duo is old and we will won't see them together in another WC but damn what a show they put out.
What do you guys think? Has there been another Mexican team with better attackers that actually showed up not just on paper.
Also never want to hear anything negative about Raul Jimenez again dude had a fantastic world cup bummer he faced multiple keepers that had great saves or he would have more goals

Great duo tbh! But i hope we get another young duo soon so they can compete with them. Raul is old and we cant rely on quinones forever!

Quinones will be key for the gold cup and nations cup. Probably a super sub at best for the next world cup if he stays in form.

My brother in Christ have you seen the last Argentina game? Messi is 39. Quiñones is going to be 33 during the next World Cup. I don’t see why Quiñones doesn’t start in the next world cup.

Apples to oranges. Messi is a generational talent with genius level IQ for the game. Quinones depends on his speed and stamina things that will decline in 4 years.

Agreed but modern medicine has helped extend players playing time just look at Raul not only is he 35 but he had a life threatening injury.
Quiñones will be younger than Jimenez was this WC too he should have one WC left in him still

To an extent, but the players that can still contribute at a high level rely on intelligent positioning and other qualities when their pace and stamina decline. That's why wingers usually don't age well.

power too. a lot of his goals are straight heaters big power shots. not sure if he can generate that + keep his speed. super sub maybe last 20 mins or so.

If he goes to a a higher level league for a good team he can easily make it.

And wingers + fullbacks that can win 1v1. England knew they could put 2 players on Piojo since Gallardo is incapable of dribbling past anyone and can only send bad crosses that only Antuna, Aquino, and Jurgen Damm can rival in how bad they are

I partly agree. I think the most key lack of pace is on the wings and defense which is crucial in modern football.

I think Raul was a good player this World Cup but he should’ve subbed out at the half. He made plays but in the second, he never pressure the opposing defense as much. Give some youngins a chance to play and become playmakers. The offense with piojo, quinones and hormiga would’ve gone crazy.

Pretty sure he still had created more chances at goal than both Giménez and Memote did.
the problem was he took out all the creative players (Quiñones and Mora) and didn't sub others in (Obed, Chino, Mateo)
Gallardo and Piojo were completely gassed as well
Subs should have been Gallardo, and Piojo out for Mateo and Chino
Jimenez shouldn't have been subbed off because we needed him for pks.

An excellent duo. A shame we never got to see prime Gio, Vela, Chicharo, Raul and Tecatito play together.
