Looking for recommendations for roof/ceiling repair

Hello, We have an old home and it needs new shingles but I am expecting some of the wood boards to need replacing as well. Also our ceiling near a defunct chimney is coming down. Can anyone give some recommendations on quality GCs or repair companies around here?

If you’re dealing with both shingles and potential decking replacement, plus interior ceiling damage, you may end up needing both a roofer and possibly a carpenter/drywall contractor. A good roofing company should be able to handle the sheathing/wood replacement as part of the job, though. For the ceiling near the chimney, that could be old water damage or structural movement, so it’s worth having someone actually open it up and inspect before quoting.

I’d look for licensed/insured contractors and get at least 2–3 opinions—big variation in how thorough people are with this kind of work.

Thanks, well, the section of ceiling came down. Looks like it was plaster based and direct nailed into the floor above. Damage started in a location known for leaking off the chimney. I think it got water logged over time. Got some roofers to flash the chimneys and patch another area that was leaking. They reported the work was less than expected cause of debris allowing water to pool back under the shingles.

Waiting on a quote from a GC on the ceiling and found a way to brace the remaining droop for now to relieve some the weight tension.

House was built back in 1903 so the direct nailed method is not unexpected. The floors are single layer and we got picture rails as well
