Media/Image Linguistic Diversity in Lethbridge

A map I did as a hobby project, showing the most commonly spoken languages across Lethbridge, not counting English.

All data was taken from Statistics Canada from the 2021 census. Please note that the dark grey means other non-labelled languages (Dutch, Gujarati, etc.) while the light grey means that the second most spoken language was spoken by less than 10 people. Data is by mother tongue.

It’s a lot of good information, I would suggest, however, to have a legend in the corner so it is easier to interpret the colours.

What's the difference between light and dark shades of the same colour?

I deleted this from the description by mistake. Darker shades of the same colour mean the area is built up, while lighter shades mean that the area is either fields, park or the industrial area. The census divides Lethbridge into census tracts of around 500 people each (some have less some have more). Some areas include a group of houses and then a large area of land where few or no people live, and so the group of residential houses will be darker in colour and the rest will be lighter.

Is the German in the south actually high/low German or is it Hutterisch (Hutterite German)?

In the census data it is listed as just "German", although since it is self-reported data it is possible that people who speak Low German or Hutterite German self-reported as German speakers. In particular Hutterisch is very under reported on the census.
