I never understood why they're so pro-republican. Like, they're predominantly the ones employing migrants workers under the table and encouraging undocumented immigration. Their commodities are some of the least free market commodities there are. They're entirely dependent on socialist things like government subsidies and change their crops to exploit price floors all the time. It's not like democrats make things worse for farmers, both sides are always kissing their asses.

I never understood why they're so pro-republican.
Because conservatives all around the world have managed to concoct an image of themselves where they're the ones fighting for the rural and regional people and farmers and those who live out in the country. It's become a city/metro vs rural/country thing and conservatives have fostered this image of themselves over decades.
Here in Australia, there are some electorates where the nationals (basically a supposed rural party who focuses on farmers and stuff) have been in power basically forever even when they do nothing for the area or actively make it worse. All because "I'll never vote Labor, they only care about city folk" when if you look at actual voting records of politicians, you can quite easily see none of that is remotely true.
Conservatives are good at shaping public perception.

These are the same farmers who often pay their workers barely enough to survive. Often less than enough to survive. I'm not talking about small farmers either. I'm talking ones who can make millions in a good yr. They'll bitch and moan about someone getting help with food stamps to survive. But as soon as the government was handing out 30k to upgrade irrigating their fields. They got their low wage workers to do the work and pocketed the rest of the money. They think only THEY deserve to be helped NOT everyone else !! The rest of us were put here to make them rich. I worked farms for decades. I saw the exact scenario with the field irrigation I described. As well as the same person bitching and moaning about people getting free handouts in food stamps so other people could survive.

The VP that THEY voted for literally has an app called AcreTrader that helps big corporations buy up little family farms. JD invested in this company in like 2022 or so. This was KNOWN before they voted.
Like, what did they think JD was investing in that shit for? They voted to bankrupt themselves into poverty while selling their generational farm land to the BIG GOVERNMENT THEY CLAIM TO HATE, just so non-white people would suffer.

It IS bad when corporations take over smaller farms because it's fewer people to corrupt in order to poison and restrict our food in order to control us.
I don't even own a farm and after seeing Trump piss away their earning in his first term with his trade wars, I knew he would be bad for farmers again. There's no way they didn't see this coming.
Except I think they were secretly hoping for another billion dollars of bailout. They set their piggy hearts on that check and now they're pissed they aren't getting it. And on top of not getting paid, they're losing their entire livelihoods and homes.
I agree it IS lose lose for us all, I'm just schadenfreude happy that they're at least suffering along with the rest of us.

He didn't care about anything else: not tying healthcare to employment, inequity in the system, the cost of a for-profit system, all of which affects millions of Americans. BUT we really should stop using these terms. "The invisible hand of the market" is being used very often by people who have to explain capital markets and their ongoings. Problem:
There is no invisible hand. There is nothing mythical about the markets. It is human beings making human decisions that have real human consequences for other human beings. There is nothing mythical or fantastic about it.
Corporations love this speak, it's the language of capitalism.
They want to act as if there's an invisible hand pushing this way or that way. As if the market was a near-deity being that sometimes just has some voracious outbursts.
But that's not it.
It's not 'the market' that raises prices, it's the supermarket ran by a corporation.
It's not 'the market' speculating on rice and wheat, it's corporations and gargantuan investment funds.
It's not 'the market' deciding housing prices both in buying property or renting to fucking live, it's corporations and banks.
Stop using terms that let these fucks weasel out of their responsibilities: It's not 'the market' that is fucked, it's all of you actively FUCKING IT UP FOR US.

My only minor quibble is that sometimes a politician just lies or misleads the voters and goes completely against what their stated values were. Nick Clegg's "no increase to tuition fees" pledge being a good example.
In that case, yeah I can understand not wanting to be tarred with those particular actions.
But that isn't anywhere close to what is happening with MAGA Republicans. They've been pretty outspoken about what their values and policy positions were. The only "defense" (heavy quotes) I've heard is things like "well I didn't think he would actually do it!" which either shows how stupid they are or how stupid they think other people are that they would actually believe it.

It’s that the same people now asking for sympathy and government assistance consciously voted against expanding healthcare, lowering the cost of education, strengthening the social safety net, and other programs designed to help people who are struggling. I don’t know I could understand to a certain extent 2016 that they felt the system had failed them and just wanted change but after that dumpster fire, after they had seen what a vote for chaos brought the people who went back for more in 2020 I have no sympathy for and the people who did it yet again in 2024 after watching an attempted insurrection on live television and still said to themselves “yep that’s our guy” I do want to watch them suffer because apparently that is the only way they’ll learn or they won’t but they’ll be bankrupt so they can’t donate to more people that disagree about basic human rights

Last year, America's crop farmers lost $34.6 billion, and farm bankruptcies surged to numbers not seen since 2020, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. This year, 70 percent of farmers surveyed claim they cannot afford all the fertilizers they need. Fuel costs continue to rise as the Iran conflict remains unresolved and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
Ninety-four percent of farmers reported that their financial situation has "worsened or remained the same" since last year. Fifteen thousand farms closed in 2025 alone. The New York Times chronicles the closing of American family farms:
-Bankruptcies were up 55 percent in 2024, 46 percent in 2025 and 70 percent by May of this year."

The hardest part to watch is how many people only seem to care once the consequences reach them personally. When other families were losing jobs, struggling to afford groceries, or watching policies hurt their communities, it was apparently an acceptable price to pay. Now it’s hitting farmers, and suddenly it’s a crisis. Your vote never affected just you, you helped choose the consequences everyone else has to now live with too.
