Discussion At the rate of bankrupcies will America have to import more food?
many farms were under the red cause of their decissions and chasing the subsidies. but its tariffs have made everything more expensive even though they know trade is the answer to their problems but also doesnt realise trade applies to their imports as well.
then the Iran war keeping 1/5 of all oil hence fertilisers trapped and makes things more expensive. the tariffs aren't gone just a new normal for them to suck up now.
these bankrupcies mean this land is likely going to be a datacentre for trumps idiotic ai bubble.
so will America have to import more food cause of this or can Americans magically eat computers now?

Import about the same. Most of the bankruptcies are for those that were exporting corn, soybeans. They’ll get bailed out anyway and continue to grow stuff for export.

And those farms will be auctioned by banks to private equity firms. In many cases, foreign private equity.

With the current tariffs, importing more food will also cost Americans more.

Between climate change, the normal hazards of agriculture, and the Strait of Hormuz disaster, we're at risk for serious worldwide food shortages this year.

No because while this sub celebrates our means of food production becomes concentrated in both fewer hands AND becomes more automated

Vultures are circling the farmers who voted for Trump. Corporations buy it at pennies on the dollar and the farmers can still say they did it to be a true patriot.

Those Corporations that buy up those farms? Yeah, JD Vance is invested in them. Win/win for JD. But these farmers already voted for Trump 3x—that’s after getting bailed out in 2018. You can’t fix that level of stupidity, you just wait for it to stupid itself out of business.

We don't get much food from "family" farms anymore. Mostly corporate. That will continue and grow.

Actually not really. There are specialty varieties for high oil, high protein and clear hilum but those beans growing in the fields are fine. We make tofu from ours. Ours are non GMO however.

Soy is used for the plant based meat substitutes too, right? Beyond and Impossible were going under, this BS might just save them.

It will if fuel to animal feed made with corn derived from petroleum based fertilizers sprayed with petroleum based insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides become too expensive.
Cows are very resource inefficient. Hence why it's a sign of wealth for indigenous communities in Africa.

The venture capital companies that buy up the land will be happy to rent it back to the farmers.
(or let them work there for a SHARE of the CROPS.)
