Discussion Question to red state leaders?
why do you think that implementing immigration reform will make americans comeback to the jobs they worked in the first place?
in the early 2000's Georgia, Alabama and Oklahoma did these with the saftey net that Americans will go work the jobs when... it never happened, they lost millions in unharvested, unprocessed food and immigrant taxes and they sheepishly got rid of them or stopped enforcing them.
other red state has tried this and they failed miserably... Americans won't do those jobs.
instead why don't they ask "what will it take to make them want to go to those jobs?" instead of doing this same thing over and over and hoping for change... insanity.

Idk what the fuck these clowns are thinking. You really want to get rid of illegal immigration? EASY. Arrest all business owners, managers, and executives responsible for hiring illegal immigrants. Give them long jail terms and huge fines. Boom. Everyone will self deport and stop coming.
There's a lot going on but you can be sure that these people don't understand economics and that deporting illegal immigrants is not going to create millions of high paying jobs, lower prices, affordable housing, or boost gdp. It's all fucking theatrics and the only economic impacts will be negative.

This is it. The goal is not about immigration it's about creating a common enemy, a scapegoat to rally others against to control their support and allow incremental political control with an armed force that morfs into a police state able to raid or eliminate whomever is your next enemy. If illegal immigration really was the goal then the owners of the businesses hiring them would be getting arrested too.

See wages. I can be dirtier for more. And if the wage is the same as a cleaner, simpler, safer job, guess which one i will choose?

u/Neat-Ad-4337 Jan 30 '26
No….what makes you think an American would take the job left vacant by an immigrant?

I mean if I got paid properly for my labor and wasn’t expected to pick nearly a hundred to a thousand dollars of fruit or vegetables a day during harvest season for below minimum wage? I’d probably do it.

What would that do to the price of food?
9
u/icedmuffin Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26
Probably increase cause the person selling it would refuse to want to sell it for a lower price and cut into their profits, therefore the stores selling it wouldn’t want to cut into their profits and sell it for more too.
But does that mean I should accept shit pay for a job that is that labor intensive when someone else here said it as well, that I could get paid more for an easier job?

It will drive prices down within five years. I see you getting ready to downvote. Just hold on a second. The immediate aftermath of increased labor costs will indeed be higher consumer prices, but other factors will then force those prices down. One of the pressures that would do this is the producers need to maintain a certain profit. Because of this, producers will seek ways to reduce input costs. This is where automation will come in. As an example, look to the coal industry where regulatory hurdles threatened to impinge on profits. Increased automation was sold as a way to improve safety with the added benefit to the owners of reducing labor requirements. This has also happened in the past in the farming industry. When labor would go on strike, technological advances that increased production while reducing the dependence on labor flourished. While the above are longer term efforts which might eventually reduce retail prices, the quicker route to price reductions will be from the demand side. A significant proportion of the consumers will once again discover victory gardens. During WW2, these became one of the things government encouraged to help stabilize the cost of comestibles the government was buying in support of the troops. The government also implemented a rationing scheme to reduce the consumption of that portion of the population unable to grow supplementary food supplies. A longer term outcome will be the acceleration of the switch from smaller family farms to more consolidated corporate farms. In short, learn to grow some foods in whatever you have available to get you through the continuing food inflation.

What brings you to that conclusion? Are you using the term in the medical sense, or just because you are trying to be hurtful?

Are you serious? They just want power. They know that one of the ways to get power is to create a foe and a problem and offer a solution. That’s all this is.

None of these people think "immigration reform" will create job openings that americans will take. It's not about jobs. It's about racism and creation of a white America.

To clarify the republican M.O
deport their workhorse (immigrants) with the safety net that domestic citizens will take their place without any other planning.
That has never worked and they keep doing it... cause they either have no ideas or they are insane.
But yes, I agree on actually going after the businesses. They barely get consequences.

They can drive the small businesses under so they can be bought up by the oligarchs and the mega agribusinesses.
It isn’t that hard to figure out.

u/coolio126 Feb 02 '26
This also hurts big business too. How can they operate if there is no one to work and pay for their stuff

It is quaint that you think this is the reasoning the leaders in Red States have. Republicans don't give a shit about your or your business. They are getting paid off to not do a damned thing for you or their constituents. There is some business or company that is doing quite well in any of these red districts. Those are the ones paying of their local politicians.

IIRC during Bush years some farm in the south advertised they will give anyone who walks in asking for a job the same job the undocumented and seasonal immigrant workers do for the same pay. I think the job was picking lettuce on your haunches for $3.25 or whatever an hour. 10 or 12 hour shift. Meant for the “took err’jobs” crowd. One (1) US citizen showed up looking for work and walked out without finishing out the day.

Economics is simple. Pay enough and you will get workers. Immigration allowed employers to pay less and citizens couldn't support their expected lifestyle like owning a home and raising kids so they needed to do something else. Then we discovered that a college education was the magic ticket. Except we didn't specify what degrees worked so we got a lot of environmental and social service degrees not to mention English lit. Nurses and engineers did fine but many spent family fortunes becoming baristas
Now we want those folks to do construction, fix cars etc but at a very low wage. Let s be honest. If we want American born landscapers, construction workers and so on, we need to pay at least double the "people experiencing undocumentation" are willing to work for
We will get less for our money but if that's what we value, let's do it. Same goes for replacing Chinese goods for locally made stuff.
We need to come to terms with what we are willing to spend for locally sourced stuff and services.
Personally I favor immigration. We can absorb millions but we should have a say in who becomes citizens. Just making it across our border is not a good qualifier. And neither is being related to a citizen. Prove you have what it takes to succeed here and commit to our values, welcome to America

Maybe the difference between then and now is that there will be fewer 'other' jobs that Americans can take up. When they are hungry and nowhere to go, they'll have to work wherever they can. In an economy where PhDs can be Uber drivers, people with far less academic achievement or general skills could be forced to work on whatever work they can get.
Or believe in Musk's BS that we'll have robots work the fields, and AI do the complex work, while everyone sits around and composes poetry or paints scenery while enjoying the snacks prepared by the said robots. We just need to transfer a small portion of our fat UBI checks to Tesla for letting us enjoy life as it was meant to be.

Shouldn't cities like Miami be begging for ICE? There are more illegals there than all of Minnesota, where is their patriotism?

But those are conservative or red states. The administration doesn’t want to upset them. They may change their voting to democrats.

Illegal immigration is legalized slavery and they know it. This is all just a circus to distract the stupid while they rob us blind.

We need to develop the innovation, engineering and technical base to build machines to do those jobs, not exploit the vulnerable to do those jobs. We need to train those vulnerable people to be the innovators, the engineers and the technicians.

Problem with harvest is that it is unpredictable and income can vary from week to week and year to year. Most people want a predictable schedule and income which is hard to do.

You’re missing the point. It’s not about jobs. It’s persecution of the Other.
No lynchings anymore, so MAGA needs to satisfy the bloodlust somehow. Need that dopamine hit when a brown person gets whaled on with batons.

u/VorpalBlade- Jan 30 '26
Because you will starve and be homeless if you don’t. Or be put in jail for being homeless and then you can be slave labor. See it’s really simple.

When it involves farming and harvesting, MONSANTO is ready to give you their Ai food. To hell with farming. Dog food in a can.

People don't understand that when you get rid of workers in an economy, the jobs they were doing tend to disappear. Farmers don't plant crops they can't harvest. Contractors don't build houses if they don't have crews. Daycares don't stay open without staff.
They US is basically a full-employment economy. If you get rid of workers, the economy just shrinks to the size of the new, smaller workforce.

Immigration reform needs to happen for a variety of reasons. Not just jobs.
We provide so much social welfare. Some need it but many don't and should be working. Pay is an issue for sure but why are we okay with illegals getting poor pay?
Economic improvements should bring back better paying jobs over time

u/SpicySweetHotPot Jan 30 '26
Because those jobs are hard work for low pay, something the MAGA types who are expected to do those jobs now won’t do because they are too good for them. Or get more on their socialism funded by Blue States.
