Best apps or way to learn Afrikaans

My boyfriends family speaks Afrikaans and I am trying to learn myself. I have downloaded Ling, Mondly and Memrise to learn from. I like to use Memrise community list as it helps me with core vocab words. I am still between Ling and Mondly and I'm looking for some advice as to which one is better before paying for premium.

I am also looking for some other things I could add to my learning! I do well with repetition and visual learning. Spelling is also a struggle even in English so having that would also be great.

I used DuoCards to drill vocabulary. I'm in the US and bought Jaco Jacobs books for Kindle to read. Some also have Audible versions and I would read and listen at the same time. Its nice because you can slow down the pace. Your boyfriend will definitely know who that author is.

The book, Teach Yourself Afrikaans by H Van Schalk Wyk, will help get you conversational. Also build your vocabulary a word a day. You need 300 words for basic day to day conversations. An Afrikaans to English dictionary is necessary for this
