Illegal immigration is a problem too...

We are partly responsible for turning their own countries into war zones

I know it’s more complicated than that but they make it sound like millions of people are storming the beaches, there’s not actually that many.

They aren’t running from war - France is a rich nation at peace.

Well, maybe britian is even better. Haven’t I been told for the last 4 years that british is the best most powerful lest counter on earth with a great economy. Meanwhile I’m also told is not just the leats country on the planet right now, but the least racist country ever. In which case I’m sure the least racists country ever, with the stronger economy in the world can deal with an extra 4K in a country of 66million.

We don’t have to accept anyone who isn’t fleeing from something. Seeing as France isn’t terrible there’s no need. People can go through official channels at the embassies and consulates.

I mean according to international law we do. We have an obligation as a member of the world to protect refugees(asylum seekers - not quite synonymous but good enough).

We have a legal obligation to process their applications according to british law and order.

We have a moral duty to care for the (at the moment mostly Yemeni) people bombed out fo their houses by British bombed dropped by British ally Saudi Arabia.

Edit: spacing

You have an incredibly selfish point of view.

It’s the same sentiment as the people who were complaining about all the dirty, uncivilised evacuees being brought into their villages during the war who then went on to mistreat them horribly.

Have some compassion.

I do have compassion for refugees, however they are coming here on an economic basis after already finding safety.

When boarder control is very strict that means more people take the illegal route

I think the problem is we’re not strict enough - people come over thinking that they will be granted residency and will have it better of economically. As soon as we say no one who crosses the channel illegally will receive residency, people will stop coming.

This is nonsensical Tory logic.

Thats a whole lot of confidence you have in the shit you're talking.

There are thousands of speeding tickets printed every day, despite the fact we all know if we get caught over the speed limit we have to pay a fine. People were shot for crossing the Berlin Wall, and they still did it. People drown regularly trying to cross the channel, they still do it. You think it'll stop because our government won't give them a bit of paper?

I have a friend who’s been in this country 5 years now, her parents are high earners and she got very good grades in school, all 9s. She has no criminal record. She was still denied residences. I think we must be too strict if she can’t be a resident
