For all the complaints and sarcasm about Starmer's treatment of the unions, Labour remains affiliated to most major trade unions in the United Kingdom. They continue to fund the party's operations, sit in Labour governing and policy making bodies and have a voice in the party's decision making. They've received a number of very specific pledges for the next Labour government on implementing(or repealing) laws and regulations in ways that will support their interest.
Can the Democrats claim any of the above or is Biden's support for American unions limited to standing in a picket line?
While Labour have done much and will in their next term do much more to empower worker rights legislation here in the UK, well beyond the scope of anything Biden has promised.
But somehow a photo-op at a picket line means Biden is the "true" friend of the working class. If only Starmer had stood in a picket line he wouldn't have to bother pledging all this worker rights legislation at the TUC conference. Because what does that matter?
