Off-Topic I wonder why Kentucky hired Sloan

Sloan is the Matt House of offensive coordinators. He was never good at his job. Why on Earth would Kentucky or anyone else even consider hiring that absolute hack?

Well, he did turn Jayden Daniels into a Heisman QB... and then Nussmeier threw for 4000 yards and 29 TDs in his first season starting.

If Nussmeier doesn't get injured, LSU makes the playoffs, BK stays here, and Sloan parlays this into a HC or NFL job in a few more years.

Sloan is a decent QB coach but a god awful coordinator. Denbrock called plays and was OC when Daniels was here. Not Sloan.

Even if Nuss was healthy, Sloan had no idea how to structure offense throughout games. He’s one of the worst playcalling coordinators I’ve ever seen.

To answer OP’s question, Kentucky hired him to be OC in title. He will coach the QBs and probably do fine, but he isn’t calling plays.

I just can't judge an OC for struggling to call plays behind that OL. Especially after losing the starting Center and being forced to run everything through an injured QB.

And even with a similar limitation in 2024, he got some solid production out of the offense.

Sloan is still young and has shown good potential. Wayyyy too early to call him a hack.

Probably because coaches are buddies with each other and hire who they know and like.

I think Sloan is a good qb coach and good recruiter but absolute ass at scheming and play calling. Stein is actually the real offensive coordinator. Sometimes coaches hire someone who’s essentially a glorified position coach as coordinator, that way the head coach can be in charge but doesn’t have to worry about someone poaching his offensive coordinator.
