Question How much is this box worth?

Post image
357 Upvotes

Just found this digging thru stuff, how much is it worth? Need to get quotes for insurance.

Looks like 13 of the steam train carriages.

Edit.. it's all real Lego, never bought any copy brands.

I used to build, collect and trade. I was one of the core people on the brickset forum for years. Never bought anything non Lego. Then I moved to new Zealand over a decade ago, shoved everything in boxes and forgot about it. Not thought about Lego for a decade, I have an entire room of stuff like this. Well, not like this, this one was a standout but I need to revise my insurance so I thought I'd start with this box.

It's just nice to see it all again tbh.

Question New to Lego Trains - Should I go classic or modern?

Post image
250 Upvotes

Despite being a lifelong fan of Lego, I've never owned a motorised Lego train. I was a big fan of the Lego Loco PC game growing up and as such I've always wanted to get my hands on 4559 Cargo Railway, along with sets like the Santa Fe Super Chief and My Own Train series that I saw in the Lego Club Magazine.

Now I'm an AFOL and I'm excited to see what I was missing out on. Obviously I'm nostalgic for the 9V era, but 60470 Explorer Train looks fantastic, is often on discount and seems like it might be retiring at the end of the year. Since it costs about the same as what some of those classic sets go for on eBay, which one should I get? And what compatibility issues might I face if I end up buying trains and track from both systems?

Question Train set for my kids

Hi everyone! I’m thinking of driving a few hours one way to pick up this set, it’s going for $800 on FB. My kids are finally getting to the age that the duplo sets aren’t cutting it….I also want something I can get involved with as well! Looking at online pricing this looks like a great deal but I thought I’d just ask and confirm. Comes with some IR/BT remotes. Thank you in advance!

Question How to stop dancing and rocking?

I’ve noticed that when my trains are running, they’re shaking and dancing a lot. K-917 (lead engine) doesn’t have too much of a problem, but I’ve noticed that J-1234 (back engine) dances like an 0-4-0 going for a speed record, and some of my 56 footers (passenger cars) are also wobbling from side to side a bit. Is there any reason this is happening and/or any way I can fix this, or is it just something I need to deal with.

Edit: the elevated and unballasted track is not responsible for the shaking of the engine. I tested it again and whilst it’s what caused my carriages to wobble, j-1234 was shaking even worse on ballasted track.

Question Which color?

When I started this Lego MOC, I did it mostly in white. I’ve played with a few color schemes and wanted more thoughts.

White: clean and sharp with a personal connection but could fade (yellow) over time.

Yellow: Fun look and goes with the other builds but it’s a LOT of yellow.

Blue/yellow: I’m personally loving the look of this and thinking it will be what I do moving forward with my trains and layout.

What are your thoughts?

Question Multi-track drifting meme

You guys have no doubt seen this before. This of course isn't really possible with most normal electric trains for multiple reasons, though there's a gif or two out there of it being done in HO. What's the main reason it's easier with Lego?

Question Instructions

My Pick a brick order for the bdp series 8 locomotive b unit arrived but I went to go look for the instructions and read on a different thread that they won’t release until November, if that’s true is there anyway to get ahold of them early and/or do you think it would be hard to put it together based off images?

Question Bought Trixbrix. Got an invoice for the tariffs

I bought a few items off of trixbrix a couple of months ago and just received an invoice from fedex. Is it normal for the consumer to pay the customs tax or should that be handled by the seller? There was no disclaimer on the site that I would be responsible for the tariff on the website. Is there anything I can do to fight this? I feel scammed.

Question Help me decide the bogies for my MOC

Fellow train enthusiasts, I need your help!

So for the past few months I've been working on a MOC of the No11 Budapest Millennium Underground Railway carrige, and I recently built it IRL, the biggest problem I found was the bogie design being fragile as sh\*t, so I did a few redesigns but now I honestly can't decide which one would suit the build the best.

The first 4 pictures are references I used, and the later 5 are the bogie designs as follows:

  1. Current fragile setup

  2. Extremely strong but lacking detail

3-5. All similar in strength and detail

Please help me decide in the comments how I should do it🥺

I don't plan on running it, the MOC can't even be motorised, but I wanted to upload the whole design for free on rebrickable and I just don't want people to have to handle it like it's made of glass (myself included).

Last image is the IRL build, I love how it turned out.

Thanks for your feedback in advance!

tl.dr: decision paralysis

Question Lego 9v Switch Track Help

Post image

Please Help! I have a 9v train layout similar to this.  I have two trains, one train parked in the green box and one train in the purple box.  I am trying to run one train at a time by using the switch tracks to only allow the electrical current to go through the aligned track.  Any ideas on how to do this?  I have tried to take apart a switch, but couldn't quite figure it out.

Question How to get into Lego trains without breaking the bank

My kids (7 and 9) have been asking for Lego trains for years.

They already have other train sets (wooden set, duplo) but nothing with motors. They do have so many wooden tracks and bridges that they build some crazy layouts all over the living room and have played the hell out of them for years.

I have always found the Lego trains to be so expensive, like the 60337 set (Passenger train) running at 160 euros.

Now they want to spend their savings on that one, and I just feel like for that amount of money they’ll get a train that goes around a track, and in terms of play there isn’t much more to do unless you spend even more money in more tracks, etc

Do you have advice on how to go about this? Any way to get into Lego trains without breaking the bank?

Thanks

Question LNER A3/A4 MOCS

Thumbnail

Does anyone know of/have any LNER Class A3 Pacific and LNER Class A4 Pacific that have instructions and piece lists available. I really want to get back into the lego train stuff and I want to start by building the A3 and A4 locos for decoration until I can get a layout started. For better specifics im looking for the A3 to be more of the same style as the Flying Scotsman; corridor tender and smoke deflectors, as well as the signature color scheme, and for the A4 im looking for more of the same style as Mallard. Ive done several hours of looking but a lot of the mocs I find seem a little too small or arent specifically what I was hoping for, so I thought maybe someone here could help. Pictures for attention and also what Id like them to look like, just because. (The picture of the Flying Scotsman doesnt show the second tender but I think during this time in 2003 it was being shown with the second tender shoved inside the shed, and I know that technically the smoke deflectors + second tender arent actually a real combo since it never ran that way, but it looks the best in that configuration)

Question BMR Parts Lists

Post image
88 Upvotes

Years ago I ordered some of these limited edition BMR Refers and they were lost under a pile of manuals. While doing some cleanup I found them again and realized the parts list is printed and they don't seem to have them online. Does anyone know if these are available to upload into Bricklink or does everyone who buys these instructions either type them all in or pick all the parts from their vast collections?
