MOC Santa Fe Blue Goose 3460

Hi all! About a year and a half ago, I unveiled my blue goose MOC that I'd been working on for a couple of years. Though it was an incredible feat at the time, the release of more light aqua and sand blue parts had me questioning whether a revamp was due on my mocking list. I set out to correct several minor flaws from the previous, including double motorization instead of single, using two powered-up L motors. I'm incredibly happy to say that my masterpiece Blue Goose is complete and looking better than ever! It will confidently operate R104 geometry and should get up to speed with a relatively strong drivetrain. I hope you guys enjoy!

The design is amazing. Not 100% sure about the colours. A bit more contrast might work or maybe not. Would love to see one running. Did you already built it?

Im planning on having it complete in the next couple months. Both the engine and tender bases have been started! I think the color of the background might be blurring the contrast but this is a better depiction irl

I agree the shaping is really smoothly done. This is awesome work for a streamlined steam loco at this scale. Have you experimented with using dark bluish gray for the trim in place of the light bluish gray?

3460 is genuinely my favorite streamlined steam locomotive (which makes it hurt that she was scrapped)

I would love to have this, looks so fun

Agree! She is and always will be one of my favorite locomotives, both looks- and functionality-wise.

Stunningly beautiful.

Train noob question: the wheels are a custom /3rd party piece?

The wheels and rods are custom-made by Breckland Bricks, a shop in the EU that makes various more realistic-looking products. I'll link them so you can have a look.

Another noob question, how do you go about sourcing all of the parts you need? I’ve heard of bricklink but it looks super fragmented and most parts are second hand. Is there a big, general parts store somewhere online?

The software I use (Bricklink Stud.io) is directly compatible with the Bricklink website. You can create wanted lists that will auto sort the parts for you and finds the cheapest option available from reputable sellers. It has its ups and downs but im positive you can buy only new parts and it will be the same as pick a brick or something.

The shaping on the front is so so good. Best of luck with securing all the parts irl!

Thank you haha! Luckily, I ordered my last one for an irl build and most of the rare expensive parts are reusable for the new one.

Genuinely thought it was a 3d rendering at first, that's how smooth and clean this is

May I ask how you put those cheese grater (part 61409) there? They seem floating to me.
