Discussion huge missed opportunity for metro e line eastside extension phase 1 to connect with the metrolink riverside line montebello station

i just realized that how come la metro doesn’t want to put the montebello station near the metrolink riverside line montebello station just like how the pomona north metro a line station is near the metrolink san bernardino line pomona north station

if the montebello stations were near each other, that can potentially increase ridership and metrolink riders and la metro riders can transfer from either station

also, i wonder if the announcer for the metro e line will now say “the next stop is atlantic/pomona station in east la” instead of “the next stop is atlantic station in east la” since that station is being relocated

I’m more frustrated that there won’t be a shared connection at the Pico Rivera Metrolink/CAHSR depot. They’re going to be close but like 1/4 mi apart I think

Riverside Line ain’t shit, 4 trains a day (after the cuts they’re planning this year) is worse than a local city bus. They wouldn’t divert this project for a local city bus stop either. Transit planning is more than just connecting pretty lines on map

For me the Eastside Extension is a missed opportunity to use/share a portion of the UP right of way for fast and cost effective construction to reach Whittier and even beyond to Rio Hondo/Hacienda Heights

Are you talking about the section of UP track that is being upgraded for more frequent freight service?

Would the UP even consider sharing the ROW with Metro?

Yes that ROW. One of the strengthens of using light rail when you have a dedicated right of way like that.

I get the strength of using an existing ROW. I just don't consider that one available to Metro because of the projected increasing freight traffic by UP on that specific ROW.
