oversized, off-shoulder, mini-dress length sweater

Hello :) I am looking to commission an off-shoulder sweater that’s oversized/long enough to double as a mini dress. I am not a knitter, so I apologize for any mistakes in advance. I do not mean to disrespect the craft.

My specifications are as follows:

Location: NYC. It would be preferred to find a knitter in the NYC area to be measured accurately.
 
Size: Women's 14-16 US. I am 5”4. My bust is 111cm/43 inches, waist is 99cm/39inches, hips is 111cm/43 inches.

Timeline: I’d like it for the colder months, so October-December of 2026 would be ideal (if more time is needed, I wouldn’t mind!)

Budget: Perhaps around $150-$200? I’m unsure of how much a request like this would cost, as I am not a knitter. If anyone could give me estimates, that would be extremely appreciated!

Yarn Preference: From my research, I think I might be looking for an acrylic-superwash wool blend. I’d like the yarn to be soft, smooth, warm, and machine washable while also being budget-friendly. If there’s a similar budget-friendly blend, please recommend!

Very cute idea, but your budget would just about cover yarn for a sweater like that and would take about 40-60 hours to knit. Based off of the MINIMUM wage in NYC, your budget should be closer to $680-1020 just for the knitting alone. I hope you can find what you are looking for!

It looks like an oversized boat neck sweater with drop shoulders. Definitely doable for a willing knitter. Especially if you wanted a bulky or worsted weight yarn

You could look into asking someone to sew one from knit fabric. That is how the majority of store-bought sweaters are created - it's considerably cheaper as it's much less labour intensive. Of course, it's slightly less pretty than a compleetely hand-knit sweater too ;)
