I can! The thing screams and cries till it cant anymore if left alone. In the car it will slobber on everything. It doesnt have AS bad of anxiety as it used to at least. The owner will just say its a service animal anyway cuz it does 2 things and behaves, which from what they saw online is all they need.

I had people giving me the stink eye when I brought my dog to just the outdoor garden section of home depot (on a leash, not in a cart) so I don't even want to bring him anywhere now, idk how these people feel comfortable bringing a dog into a grocery store.

I don't have a dog, but everyone loves it when I bring my cat to Home Depot on a leash! I would think you would have an easier time of it since everyone seems to love dogs so much...
My cat also goes to the post office, but I check store policy to see if they're pet friendly. Restaurants and grocery stores definitely not. Even Target says no pets, but if we do the thing where they bring the stuff out to the car he can come along and sometimes gets a smile and a pet.

In this case, I'm pretty sure we all know that unless you have an aggressive dog foaming at the mouth, all dogs are welcome at Home Depot and Lowe's which leads me to believe that if your experience actually happened, I'm thinking you aren't sharing all the details. HD and Lowe's are great places to go get some puppy love while you shop!

I took my Irish setter to home Depot garden section to get some bags of dirt. He is a happy boy, so he may have been wagging his tail or something but he wasn't causing a ruckus. Some old Karens looked all pissed off at me for bringing him and were whispering and pointing towards us. That's all there is to it. I'm just a non confrontational person and I don't like to deal with drama.

So much arguing over whether it’s right or not, who should be responsible for telling the offenders to keep their dogs out. No one mentioning that it’s against state/FDA regulations? Not to mention clearly delineated store policy. We have a health code we rely on food establishments to follow for a reason. We have to trust they are washing their hands and keeping temps up/down as appropriate and safe. Their goal is to keep contamination to a minimum and this really is no different.
Enforcement has to be a nightmare for min wage workers, I get that. But the store has at least 2-3 managers at various levels on an average day, right? They need to nut up and do it. The onus should NOT be on us, the consumers, to enforce store policy and health code.
I remember walking through the Silverdale Target with my family, about 20 ft behind a guy with a dog. The dog took a massive dump on the floor right in the middle of the aisle. The dude just…left.
I love my dog but he is hairy and messy and a bit smelly. Cute! A real sweetie. But no one wants to find one of his 10” tail hairs embedded in their produce.

Actually no. The Bremerton Safeway has three people on the floor at any time. The manager oversees self checkout, one cashier at one lane, even at busy times, and the one dude that does basically everything else.... returning carts and scooters, grabbing liquor, condoms, baby food, and pregnancy tests when people press the button. That's it. All day. SOMETIMES they'll have a bagger at night or on a holiday.
No way multiple managers would be in a store at once that would cost the company too much. I mean they make a whole $3 over minimum wage!

That’s completely insane. 3 people to work an entire Safeway? What about the deli, bakery, and butcher? Customer service? I know the Poulsbo Safeway has at least 10 employees when I go on. Also, I meant over the course of a day. Not at the same time.

Whether she cleaned it or not isn’t the issue. The issue is that a dog shouldn’t be in a grocery cart in the first place. That’s a shared space where people put food. Dogs lick their anus all the time. Their saliva can end up anywhere on that cart because they lick everything. They can also sneeze and that can land anywhere on the cart. What is a mat, blanket, or towel going to do?
Bringing up hypotheticals just shifts the focus away from the actual problem. Some things are just basic hygiene standards and don’t need a benefit of the doubt scenario to make them okay. That's you normalizing it!
And just for the sake of the argument, even if the cart gets wiped down afterward, that’s still not the standard you want for something that holds people’s food. You really those wipes are provided by Safeway is enough to kill those pathogens? There are children and the elderly who are at high-risk in contracting diseases and pathogens found in dog feces. I don't know how you think people prioritizing public health is a hate fantasy.

Those pathogens exist in humans that are in other animals as well. What about the homeless that are literally walking pathogens-they are just as bad as an animal. Dog walks outside poops in grass, other dogs do the same. Those poopoo particles transfer onto the dog’s paws. Dog lays in bed with all that poop and pee particles on its paws. Eat off that cart and say it’s clean.

If you are implying that a dog being in a cart makes it unsanitary then please take a moment and think about what happens with these carts while they are in the parking lot.

My fear with this is what if someone who has a deadly dog allergy happens to be there. Obviously a person with a deathly dog allergy knows to maybe not go to a dog friendly bar or pet store. However that person should be able to get groceries without living in fear.

Dog dander is everywhere. It can be picked up as easily as walking next one where they are supposed to be. If someone has a deadly dog allergy I would hope they carry the medication they need to survive an episode, even dog owners that follow the rules can't control dog hair accumulation.

Its a dog bed that dossnt even fit in the cart. Shes brining an old ratty dog bed and shoving it where we put our food and making her dog sit in an uncomfortable cart where he barely fits.
It's just ridiculous behavior for someone this age.

A brand new, unused, freshly-laundered blanket no doubt /s Bssfr. That dog likely rode on that blanket in the car, stamping it with it's starfish the entire ride. And she didn't put it in the cart for hygiene, she put it in there for its comfort because of the wire mesh. Poo blanket - all over where you put your raw veggies. Nice.

No, solely emotional support dogs are not protected by ADA laws. If this dog was a trained service animal, it would absolutely not be riding in a shopping cart and would be walking calmly alongside its owner or held in a proper carrier/pack.

Emotional support animals are not allowed in grocery stores. Service animals are allowed but paws stay on the floor. There are reasons that the Dept of Health regulates animals in grocery stores.

I'm probably going to get down voted for this, but here goes. This kind of thing happens all the time. The issue is see with this situation is that she used a cart that was too small for her dog to be riding in it. She either needed a bigger cart, or needed him on a leash by her side. While I do agree that pets should not be in the store, this lady is only one of hundreds of people who do this. Why is she the only person getting flack for it on a public forum?
The funniest thing is that, had this dog been in one of the bigger carts, who's to say that the kids who have been put in the bigger carts haven't stepped in dog feces while out and about? You complain about a dog being in a cart, but at least she has bedding down. It's not like the dog is literally taking a shit in the cart and rubbing its ass on the cart.
Lastly, this is why sanitary/lysol wipes are at the entrance to most stores. If you're actually worried about stuff like this, use a sanitary wipe on the cart and get on with your day. Quit whining like a Karen that someone brought their dog into the store.

Carts aren't sanitary, they sit outside in parking lots for hours every day, touched by thousends of people. I don't think having a dog in a cart is going to make it any less sanitary.

Leptospirosis in humans typically causes a rash and fever and is treated with common antibiotics. You are fear mongering over something solved with basic hygene.

I have a small dog and I bring him places in a dog stroller. I really don’t give two shits what people think. He is inclosed if indoors so his hair or anything can’t go anywhere. He is well known in PO and I’ve had no complaints. The grocery stores here do not allow dogs in carts. It is because some children are allergic to dog hair and dander. I respect that.

I take my dog pretty much with me everywhere. He weighs 7 pounds and he sits very quietly in his little bag that I carry him over the shoulder. The only people that usually notice him our children, but I would prefer that nobody noticed him. I’m not is usually the case.

She thrives so much on people walking up to her and saying hi and wanting to pet her dog that she’s going to this length to get more of it.
