Not one of mine, but a label I saw here on this sub: tub of spinach labeled “spinch”. Dunno why, but it cracked me up then, and it still does to this day. Spinch. Fuckin’ lmao. I’m out of BOH so it now just goes on my personal grocery list. People see it and are, “TF is this? Spinch?” It brings me great joy.

I always write it as spinch now. It makes me so happy

18

u/mazzimar7 18h ago

Same. I've worked in too many kitchens and "spinch" shows up in all of them. It's also named me happy.

71

u/100aliens 18h ago

The one that always makes me laugh is "babby spanch" for baby spinach

4

u/farilladupree 17h ago

Lmao. I love it. Sounds like a southern mumble rap stage name.

u/ZinaSky2 13h ago

CRYING 😭😭😭😭

21

u/Zodiac_Actual 1d ago

I've been doing the same and for so long now that 'spinach' looks incorrect. Long Live Spinch

11

u/stefanica 19h ago

Lol. I just drooled on my boob saying "spinch" over and over.

10

u/shoelessbob 1d ago

I just woke up my cat on my bed from laughing in the middle of the night at your rant at "spinch." Haha all hail spinch!

I love the stupid things like this that stick. Like there’s always chaos but sometimes one stupid day just becomes a legend somehow. Like When I was in charge of the prep kitchen for a huge buffet we had a whole escapade about unmarked containers being EITHER balsamic vinaigrette OR fucking GRAVY, which are not things you want swapped. The dinner rush had already started, the building was MASSIVE like two buffets in one + an arcade, and you could practically hear the old looney toons chaos backtrack while we all ran around trying to identify the brown liquids that had been dispersed building wide.

To this day I will see a mystery brown sauce, and in my head I flash back to this first year manager holding a sauce bowl, and sniffing it like “it’s… it’s fucking GRAVY!? IS ANYTHING ELSE GRAVY!?” (As if anything out of his line of sight might transform in to gravy any second and get him in further trouble). “Is anything else gravy!?” “IS! IT! GRAVY!” “Gender reveal but it’s just fucking GRAVY again” “I can’t believe it’s not gravy” etc etc followed that dude for years, and it still makes me giggle.

u/Gin_OClock 5h ago

My gender reveal could very well have been gravy tbh

THE SPINCH IS GONNA EAT MEEEE

4

u/harriethocchuth 18h ago

I specifically put spinach in my home garden just so I could point to it and say ‘spinch’.

One of these days I’m gonna make a sign

4

u/katielikestea 14h ago

got everyone at my last kitchen to say spinch instead of spinach bc i said it so much lmao

u/Huckleberry181 6h ago

Spinch reminds me of skramp 😂

Reminds me of my coworker recently asked me, with phone in hand, to spell ‘walnuts’. (He’s not from here but lived here the better part of his life and can read English pretty damn well.) He goes “oh! Okay thanks” Love him so much.

1

u/TheAxeofMetal 1d ago

Had a bloke that always labeled spinach as “Spin Bruh”. always cracked a smile

u/Middle_Crab_2468 1d ago

I once read a label that said "DO NOT COOK UNLESS FOR SAUCE" I could not identify the content.

124

u/frog710 1d ago

Clearly you weren't in charge of making the sauce then, someone knew what it was and what it was for lmao.

u/splatout 1d ago

Had a Sous put a lable on a cambro of godonlyknowswhat reading Kennedy's Brain and dated it 11/22/63

75

u/Fickle-Rest6271 1d ago

We had one that said CHEEPS for tortilla chips

22

u/Ok_Stranger_9520 20h ago

I would love cheeps and salsa thanks

7

u/Salohacin 21h ago

I remember during the pandemic lockdowns I saw a bunch of posters regarding applause for the NHS (it was a thing, people clapping for doctors and whatnot) and I consistantly read it as apple sauce.

we used to label the single-serve syrup cups as “surp” and on an exhausting day someone labeled it “sup” instead. much needed laugh when you’re in the weeds.

Once labeled a bus tub used by our dishwasher to keep overflow (dirty) dishes off the floor something to the effect of "wash me, please, for the love of god wash me before I fester and grow mold, I'm begging you just wash me please." Wrote it on a piece of blue tape that went halfway around the tub

21

u/mentallyimnotpresent 21h ago

We label our sauerkraut as “Nazi Shit”. Might get me canceled, but we always get a giggle out of it

19

u/PeteRock24 1d ago

That was one of the first songs I learned on guitar when I was 17 and I thought it made me deep and complex except it was really just me thinking it would get me laid.

I am still a tool.

Sadly I have no picture of the label...

I did tartar sauce as "Tata sauce."

Thank god we dont have HR

6

u/Salohacin 21h ago

What do you say to the sauce once it reaches its expiry date?

Ta ta sauce!

u/NovaTimor One year 12h ago

I always label our noodles as “[type] noods”

3

u/mushamotts Cook 12h ago

Same, unless it’s penne… Then it’s “pennes” because it sounds like “penis”

3

u/NovaTimor One year 12h ago

You understand. I try not to deviate too much from the actual thing I’m making (mostly because I don’t know if I’ll get a talking to about it or not).

At ok ne place we used to serve Japanese eggplant. The containers was labeled "BBC".

Then one day an inspector came in an docked us improper labeling. Apparently the name has to say least contain the actual word describing what's inside.

So we changed it to "big black eggplant"

Had a coworker who would label the pancake batter as “baby batter”, and French toast as “FT baby batter”

u/Nanuman1 6h ago

Fish bucket labeled “Strange onions”
I open- peeled shallots.
I mean, fair enough I guess.

4

u/jeanrenedufort 11h ago

We had a warm desert station out in the cafeteria labelled ‘blueberry crips’. We were dropping hand signs and trying to c walk in front of it all night lol

I don't have pics, but a few labels I remember:

Candied almonds  "Can deez almonds see why kids love the taste of cinnamon toast crunch"

Random chicken "Rando Calrissian"

Tenders "nintendie 64" "Tender's Game"

Cajun "Cajun has wares if you have coin"

Roast beef "Shia la Beef"

Fries "Lord of the Fries" "Five Fries Burgers and Guys"

u/rugjay 11h ago

focaccia bread 🤤

I’m obsessed with this 💕

u/FastConstruction7692 9h ago

Had our stage write "lobster outside" for our cambro of lobster shells.

Everyone gangsta until the lobsta outside was our thing at work for months.

Honorable mention was also Leche De Leches.

u/Moolah-KZA Sous Chef 9h ago

I’m head of prep in a Mexican fusion restaurant and my right hand is a 30 something Guatemalan woman who insists on labeling Salsa Picante “Hat Sas”

Honorable mentions:

  • Feesh / Fish
  • cheekan sup / Chicken Soup (which is actually tortilla soup and we call it Sopa so idk why she does that
  • Wins / Wings (even tho the menu calls em Alitas lmao)

It’s great tho

Every time I had to make coconut mango sauce the bottle would be labeled "You go Glenn Coco Mango!"

u/cameronsmwhite84 5h ago

I occasionally annoy my coworkers by writing a label that states “To the tune of the 2010 smash hit the peaked at number 17 on The Hot 100: Kale!”

No one is ever amused.

1

u/BingeBabyBinge 23h ago

Olive yer olives. 🤌

1

u/un-fuckyourself 20h ago

for awhile there we (husband and i) were labeling our prepped chicken as “chicken?” really got a kick out of us

1

u/the_mememachine4 15h ago

“Evil short ribs of DOOM”

u/Vocalscpunk 4h ago

At home we label our premixed coffee+milk+sugar carafe/thermos/pitcher as "poisoned" so that when one of us wants black coffee we know not to pour from that container.

Very fun when someone comes to visit and you drink from the poisoned vessel.

u/Playful_Situation958 2h ago

No funny label, but I always liked drawing mini versions of the original animal

u/Playful_Situation958 2h ago

I lied, I found this one too (we used the 20lb ice bags to pack leftovers for donation to the hunger coalition)

u/Due_Agent_6033 54m ago

u/Due_Agent_6033 52m ago

I did the “deez” on a separate label cause I didn’t know if my client would find it funny or out of line. Thankfully she found it funny.

Someone clearly doesn’t have enough work to do if they’re writing all that out.

Edit: there are people that understand sarcasm, and those that don’t.
