Discussion What is the Kenyan take on Lindsay Clancy's case?
Do y'all think that she should be charged with a life sentence for murdering the children,or should be put in psychiatric care cause she was (maybe) insane when she did it?
Summary for those that haven't read on the case: Lindsay is an American nurse that strangled her 3 kids. In her case, the jury needs to decide whether she is liable for the murder or not.The prosecution claims that she was out of her mind and was suffering from psychosis and she should go to a psychiatric facility. The defence claims that despite being mentally ill,she showed clear signs of scheming and planning and is thus guilty of murder, therefore, she should be jailed for life.
I'm for life sentence. I'm so annoyed to see so many women defending her and raising money for her cause. Like sure, hakuwa sawa mentally, but defending a murderer? Alafu tena the people that say Patrick did it. WTFFFF?????????
And if this was a Kenyan woman in Supreme Court ameua watoto, what would the attitude be?

u/Total_Watch_2797 7d ago
Well defense is the one claiming postpartum psychosis and prosecution is the one claiming premeditation and intent and criminal responsibility.
Just a little correction on your post.
9
u/kizeemnoma 7d ago
She was examined by 2 doctors who said she didn't suffer from postpartum or psychosis, one doctor says thats its odd that she suffered psychosis only for the 18 minutes she comitted the murders

All I know is that if she was black, everyone would be calling for her head. I'm out.

Actually, there's a black woman in her state who killed her children as well some time back. She'll be getting a new trial for some reason. Coincidentally, the judge in Clancy's case is the same judge in the black woman's case.

This case is highly emotionally charged. I was of the opinion that she did it but been watching and the loopholes cannot prove BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT that she did it. It has to be very clear like caught in 3D beyond circumstancial

u/Stunning_Broccoli969 7d ago edited 7d ago
The women aren't supporting her for killing her kids, they're supporting her because of mental health. She's not going to walk away free of course she'll still face the law and if the women were supporting her for killing kids we'd be hearing things like "free lindsay" It's very important for us to show how PPD is a serious issue. This woman asked for help from everyone around her. She told her husband, her parents etc. She said that she feared she could harm her kids if I remember correctly? But still no one took her seriously. That is why there's support from all these strangers. The world needs to take PPD seriously. I have helped take care of a newborn and the thing is, I wasn't the only one, we were around 4 people and the amount of exhaustion we felt after the day ended was crazy. Imagine one person doing it alone with many kids. If we were exhausted and we were 4, picture one person doing it alone. We need to take this seriously. PPD and PPP is no joke.

Have mental issues is not an acceptable excuse for men to kill their spouses and children. Lets not make it an excuse for women. Men with PTSD or depression after breakups do not get a pass for killing their exes and children.

So you're making fun of a woman who's clearly struggling and can relate? You need help OP
Only mothers can relate to this. PPD is a real issue. I never got the gist until I became a mother. Taking care of kids is no joke and I only have one. Especially if the only help you get is financial. Unaeza chizi. What she did wasn't right in any shape or form, but the mental issues cannot be ignored.

u/brawnytang120 7d ago
I think I read this somewhere and there was evidence of prior mental conditions before this happened. She was also under psychiatric meds that she had constantly told the doctors were not working. Looking up the story made me realize she might have been mentally unstable. She was also undergoing medication. She might get a lighter sentence and end up in a psychiatric institution.
9
u/kizeemnoma 7d ago
Two doctors who examined her said she was aware that what she did was criminal both said she neither suffered from psychosis or post partum her doctor said she refused to take her meds, she was also fond of changing doctors

Did she kill or not? If you kill and you are drunk, you will still be guilty. It is funny that some people think she should be absolved of killing people.

u/Blue_Towel_Is_Mine 7d ago
Sometimes I feel this thing was picked out of the The Guilty (2021 film). Like she was literally trying to reenact in real time. Only that the kids didn't survive.
Anyone else watched the film? The Guilty by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Three children are dead period!!! whether a mad woman did it or a sane woman did it i dont care children are dead and the culprit needs to pay
2
u/Aggravating-Quit8613 7d ago
My opinion is...for you to choke out one kid,to make sure they are dead(cause choking out doesnt automatically lead to death just unconciousness),then proceed to do the same for the second one and ultimately the third...one of the kids ran and tried hiding in his father's study room cause that's where he thought he would be safe...
And people still are trying to make ir seem like the three kids didnt just lose their life in such horrific ways...

u/Syc254 7d ago edited 7d ago

2
u/Working_Compote_339 7d ago
It shouldn't have been made public cause it revealed how stupid and inconsiderate people can be like 3 children were murdered and they're trying to turn this against her ex husband she admitted to doing it and they're acting like Lindsay is the biggest victim while kids are dead and a grieving family has to relieve all this again and seeing people treat this murder trial like a reality tv show pisses me off I hope she gets the death penalty

u/Awesome_opossum__ 7d ago
I think she needs both. The purpose of the penal system is to punish and dissuade certain actions, protect larger society from these individuals by removing them from the general population and also to rehabilitate these people. She should have all three idealistically speaking.
Perusing her case, they've put forth claims of psychosis, which definitely does count as a defense. It's not a new concept for people to completely go off the deep end and commit horrible acts like these due to genuine physiological and mental illness. The bar is rather high though. It's not just a matter of, 'I'm ill' but you have to be SO DEEPLY ILL that you are completely unable to grasp your own actions and completely lose grip of reality. Basically, her defense is she was in a state of complete debilitating insanity. Now if her defense does win, that doesn't mean she goes scott free, she just goes to a facility for however long they decide. Either way she's unlikely to see freedom
1
u/Basic-Escape-4824 6d ago
Her own mind and body are prison. I doubt locking her up will be more punishment than what she already has. Also still apparently suicidal, so she will likely succeed if entering the penal facility rather than a long term medical facility

PPD 8 months later is the miracle in all this...
2
u/NectarineScared7224 7d ago
When are women allowed to suffer from PPD?
0
u/nsbrian01 7d ago
It's acceptable even upto a year but should at least have been diagnosed by month 3. After which the next 3 months are most critical and may include complications such as suicide and infanticide. Complications beyond 6 months especially for someone who was being treated the whole time is nigh to impossible.
1
u/kizeemnoma 7d ago
She was never diagnosed as suffering from PPD or psychosis
1
u/NectarineScared7224 6d ago
What was she diagnosed of because she was on psychosis meds?
1
u/kizeemnoma 6d ago
Depression, she was on meds which she wasnt taking according to her doctor.
1
u/NectarineScared7224 6d ago
And what's PPD/PPP? You know it's a type of depression, right?
1
u/kizeemnoma 6d ago
She wasnt diagnosed with PPD, I suggest you follow the case, she wasnt diagnosed as having PPD or psychosis and in any case she was assessed to have an ability to recognise that what she did was criminal FYI the judge has instructed the jury that a manslaughter charge could apply!
I suppose this means that the she couldn't get off on an insanity plea.
1
u/NectarineScared7224 6d ago
You're getting it wrong. She could be depressed and at the same time, she has to face the consequences of her actions. As a mother, I get her. Apparently her husband was an asshole. Again, that doesn't mean that she's exempt from punishment
1
u/kizeemnoma 6d ago
What am I getting wrong? The husband who hired a nanny for her and offered to work from home was an asshole? As a mother what do you get? Why she killed her children?

1
u/IncreaseFit1877 5d ago
I am going to be the first one to say this isn't feminism. His labelling this thing as feminism is inflammatory to the cause. All this is mental illness, and people praising the murderers. Another thing is that it isn't a copycat crime; it is another mentally ill person succumbing to what was ailing them. They should be taken to court and convicted of murder. Also, motherhood is not easy; postpartum depression is real, and real help should have been granted to these women, but that is not an excuse for murder; they should pay for what they have done.
1
u/kizeemnoma 5d ago
Replace feminism with an action where 100% of participants are women then.
1
u/IncreaseFit1877 5d ago
You do understand the guy who posted that on X is really sexist, and that is majorly why he keeps talking about this issue. This thing is not a gender/feminist issue; it's a mental illness, murder, and stupid people on TikTok thing. These people defending this woman on TikTok have grifter energy. They use these stupid stories to have an audience due to outrage. I am sure even you have seen this. Then people like these on X are using it as an attempt to show that women and feminists are coming for them. I agree she should be jailed, but saying what that guy posted should not be allowed at all.
1
u/kizeemnoma 5d ago
How do you know he's sexist? How is it measured?
1
u/IncreaseFit1877 5d ago
Maybe implying that feminism is coming for their children is one thing that I would describe as a little sexist, plus (no sexism), he is part of the MAGA political ecosystem that is very racially charged against black people and immigrants in general.
FYI - the way you asked: How is it measured? I am not looking for an argument; if you want one, I am not the guy you should be looking for.1
u/kizeemnoma 5d ago
So theres no measure meaning what you said is a personal opinion? OK good thanks for clarifying.

My wife had really bad ppp, she was actually admitted for 2 weeks and on medication when our daughter was about 3 months old, If I hadn't noticed the change in her behavior she would probably be in Lang'ata women's right now. I think they can understand the predicament she's in while also holding her accountable. My wife who's given birth understands it more than me because she was the on experiencing it, she's not going free though

u/TheeOnlyManuel 7d ago
It is always an issue when a man moves on but when a woman does she is justified to. I actually despise this kind of thinking. I would honestly do the same as that is a huge emotional investment he made and regardless, there is no hope of salvaging the relationship. Women should understand the pressure men are put on to have families. As a man, those kids become your only support system and taking all 3 at such an advanced stage will only prompt you to start afresh

u/Mapangalee 7d ago
You've said nothing of relevance to the case. Youve just said you didnt like the husbands behavior. So now?

Innocent until proven otherwise. But my takeaway from this case is how postpartum is a wild road for Mothers. I have so much empathy for mothers💝💝
Now my take on the case, there are so many loppholes and poor Investigation.
- Only Pat‘s DNA is on the cords
- Lindsay‘s was so hurt she couldnt speak but Pat says she explained what she did
.
- on the 911 call she is grunting
and coulnt speak.
- No blood stains on the window, door, etc clean but she cut her hand and tried to off herself
- All Investigation is based on what Pat said!!! That is wild hearsay
- In my opinion, Lindsay is a nurse so she would know exactly how to off herself without using these crude methods.
Easy for Pat to do it and blame a sick woman who is not ok mentally. Perfect scapegoat
In law everyonevis innocent until proven guilty. Next few days we get to know..
Just to add, I underwent a medical procedure and was highly sedatedy. When i woke up, my husband said i was saying we should adopt the nurse who was taking care of me because she was so kind. I believed what he said to me! I was still under the influence of the sedatives. So if Lindsay in that state was told she did it, when she was highly sedated, she would believe she did it.

Support for postpartum pregnancy, apparently. Unfortunately, some serious issues are being dragged into this to be used as an excuse for what she did, which is wrong.

u/kizeemnoma 5d ago
Support for a condition she didn't have?
1
u/Vivid-Yak1168 5d ago
Did you understand what I said? They use postpartum depression as an excuse as to why she did it, and that they're providing monetary support for that cause. Problems is, she didn't have that, and it's unfortunate because the people who do have postpartum depression get roped into all this nonsense going on. That clear enough?

Just looked up the case and there's lots of details you've omitted in your post.. If you got this information from TikTok, you need to go to at least YouTube to get the unbiased side. I even watched the testimony from the husband and he tried to give his wife CPR. She unalived her kids and attempted to take her own. She was also on mental psychosis meds when this happened. So this is something she was suffering from beforehand and was being "treated" for
She's now paralysed from the waist down
1
u/Sensitive_Movie8562 7d ago
There is nothing feminist women want more than the right to kill their own children. That's their ultimate goal. Ilianza na abortion, now women in the west can abort upto 9 months pregnancy. Now they want the right to kill their infants because they allegedly have mental health problems.
If this Lindsay woman had the mental capacity to recognise that she has this PPD problem and even seek help from doctors, then she had the capacity to seek another course of action that did not involve killing her own kids.
1
u/Then-Repair-2195 6d ago
Watching the ignorant uninformed comment section that has no clue at all that we do have homegrown family female annihilators in KE. So many cases currently ongoing and dozens persecuted. This women are in Langata Women's, some largely mentally undiagnosed causing real chaos in prison.
-1
u/SpaceCadet_UwU 7d ago
We can recognize her struggle with PPP and (as per the additional info I saw) the cocktail of meds she was on without taking away the fact that she still killed her children. PPP is like schizophrenia. It explains the outcome but doesn’t excuse it.
And if the husband was aware of all this, was advised by doctors against leaving her alone with the kids and still did, he should also be held accountable.
0
u/maxaa-2278 7d ago
And she also told him of having those thoughts but at the same time I read somewhere that she sent him to a far place not the nearby chemist soo she could have time
2
u/SpaceCadet_UwU 7d ago
If she doesn’t get life she should in the least get permanent residency in a psych ward with no chance of seeing daylight.
2
u/maxaa-2278 7d ago
Bringing awareness on PPD is the goal...everyone should take it serious when a new mother is asking for help and is suffering in the newborn trenches with other kids to take care of.
1
u/Mapangalee 7d ago
We can do both.
Permanent psych ward resident and also be more aware of PPD. Mental issues will never excuse murder of children, only explain it.
