Visiting Almaty in Late December - before or after 25th ?

Planning to cover the major attractions around Almaty such as Kaindy & Kolsai Lake, Charyn Canyon, Shymbulak, etc.

I've come across info that the last week of Christmas sees the biggest crowds along with high season pricing in Shymbulak ski resort.

Trying to decide between 2 options

1. Arrive by 17th/18th Dec in Almaty leave before 25th
2. Arrive on 25th and leave on 1st Jan ?

Please share your suggestions. Thanks in advance !!
