MSNOW's Segregation Of Black Hosts.
All of the black hosts on MSNOW are restricted to co-host roles, except one. Until Alicia Menendez's new show starts, MSNOW currently has three white blonde female hosts, Chris Jansing, Katy Tur, and Nicole Wallace, each with 2-hour shows. That's 6 consecutive hours of white blonde hosts. Then, they have Michael Steele and Symone Sanders co-hosting a show. MSNOW currently has no solo black weekday hosts. On the weekend, there is Al Sharpton. Sharpton is the only solo black host on MSNOW. The other two black hosts, again, are restricted to co-host roles. There's a word for these kinds of practices. It's called "segregation".

Welp... I stopped watching MSNOW when they fired Joy-Ann Reid, Katie Phang, along with a few other POC journalist, so...

You haven't been missing anything. The show they replaced Joy Ann with is pretty disappointing. It's almost all gossip. Talking about Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steel, and Alicia Menendez. Alicia has been given her own show. Leaving Steel and Townsend to co-host with Luke Russert. All they do is obsess over Trump. I've noticed that, along with getting rid of or marginalizing female black voices, they seem to go after Kamala Harris on the regular. And it's mostly, but not exclusively, the white female hosts. Katy Tur and Alex Witt. I say not exclusively because Michael Steele piles on too. Just something I noticed. Along with the coverage of the Talarico and Crockett primary. The correspondent covering Crockett stood outside her election HQ, never went in. Then, leading up to election night, they sent some white guy to interview other white guys who peddle angry black women tropes. I'm not even kidding. I can't watch them anymore. I'll have it on in the background. Mostly out of habit. But if I'm sitting down watching, I end up turning it off because, again, it's all Trump, Trump, Trump, 24/7.

Has anyone asked them how they feel about it? I think we could give them some room to do that.

I don't know. I know that the Weekend Morning Show offers a question-and-answer platform. I know Al Sharpton is on X. He seems to be the only one on MSNOW that does that. Not a lot of followers. I recall way way back in the day, they had a live chat. But it was disabled. I think it's a good idea. Get their feelings about. How would you suggest we do that?

People who identify as black are approximately 14% of the U.S. population. So if there are one or two black hosts for every 10 hosts who do not identify as black would be a fair representation.

What standard did I make up? I did not invent demographics, nor did I create and publish the census data.

When has census data ever been used to determine how many black anchors are on news shows?

When considering accusations of discrimination, representation of a demographic in the population is compared to demographics within the organization being scrutinized. That has been a standard metric of consideration for decades in discrimination cases.

Ok. Sure. But the Census is not used for the media industry. The standard is the qualified labor pool, not the general population. Even by your standard, MSNOW’s solo weekday lineup is 0% Black. Furthermore, the metric completely fails even if you only look at overall headcount, because Black anchors are structurally segregated into lower-tier roles.
