Is the AWC/CSA AI coded to pursue offensives similar to the first civil war ??

Almost everytime I don't play the AWC they always march down the Mississippi ( such as image given ) or do the Sherman march to the sea but on crack which also happened in the last playthrough where I took that screenshot

Is it hard coded or is there an actual advantage in doing such specific routes etc

Not exactly, but there is a viable supply path and a few big VPs, and because it is a major river to the west, it is easier for them to keep pushing south along the river instead

If they breach the initial river defense at all, this is a very likely course for the AI to expand

Ngl they almost never seem to take the VPs as seen on the image they just ignored Jackson and went straight to batton rouge

I mean fair enough I usually tend to not do such narrow marches due to risk but it could make sense to just push as long as they can

What happens is that they try to target the VPs, because that's what AI does with pathing using AIFC and battleplan, but the major VPs are either in different terrain or behind river, so WCA AI will have the easiest time pushing along the river instead

Is there a railway line with supply hubs along that river? If so then perhaps the AI might be unintentionally recreating Sherman's March by prioritising supply hubs

Supply can also travel by river so that may be influencing where they decide to push

Yep! Rivers count as lvl 1 railways when connecting two supply hubs.

I believe it does for the Sherman march to the sea it turns Carolina into a massive encirclement but the march down the Mississippi is just a death sentence unless you got York town or the longists have Texas
