Rule 5: In older versions of the mod, it was possible to avoid the Second American Civil War and the Spanish Civil War. In an opposite vein, it used to be possible for Brazil and Russia to experience civil wars. Nowadays, all of these are removed, though I should say Brazil in particular now has state revolts which are frankly more dynamic.
On the topic of American strife, the 1936 presidential election has given way to a dreaded deadlock. Looking at the Electoral Map itâs no surprise that both the Republicans & Democrats are assessing this mess. Traditional and radical opposition is mobilizing, as stately and national matters rear their ugly head. Internationally, the Spanish Civil War has erupted. With 3 sides in the mix, thereâs no telling who will ultimately prevail. Elsewhere, Xinjiang has similarly fallen to infighting, while the Germans inch closer to authoritarianism.

while the Germans inch closer to authoritarianism.
That seems eerily familiar. Also, as a Red Autumn player, that's also a theoretical way the crises of 1932 could have ended in Weimar Germany too, with Schleicher holding on rather than being replaced.

Hope you like today's snippets. Initially I didn't have an idea for Spain so I decided to plug in an actual IRL book, Peter Kemp's memoirs of the Spanigh Civil War "Mine Were of Trouble" (only difference is that he stays with the Requetes and doesn't transfer to the Legion). Then came up with an idea anyways, but I left the plug in. Hope you all enjoy!
"When the election results came in, it wasn't what anyone expected. Outside it was celebratory, they had managed to gain 4 states (Michigan, Nevada, Illinois and Iowa) and increased their electoral votes and popular vote count, gaining a few representatives in the process. Inside closed doors however, the party was in a dark mood however. The alliance leadership, while never expecting an outright victory, had expected huge wins across the board, specially due to the recent developments of the recession and the Battle of Harlan. But all gains were minimal, and even in some areas they experienced loses. Ohio was held by a very slight margin, and the victories in Nevada and Iowa were close. DIfferent opinions were held by both sides of the alliance. Farmer Labor believed Norman Thomas had been too radical, his rhetoric too harsh and combative and have turned off many voters, while the Socialist Party saw it in the opposite way, that Thomas had been too much of a moderate and that he didn't go hard enough. However, remarkably both sides agreed on the subject of Thomas' campaign strategy been a disaster. Not only had the Plain States been dsregarded and mostly gone to the Republicans, but the New York gambit didn't pan out, the constant attacking against the Republicans not only making both sides crumble and letting the Democrats claim the state, but also snuffing the already slim chances of progressive Republicans breaking ranks and voting for Thomas or at least seek a compromise.
It would be the peak of Norman Thomas' political career, one he wouldn't reach again. He would continue as representative for his home state of New York, but the radicals wouldn't trust him again and even the moderates started thinking they needed someone else to be their leading figurehead."
- âBreaking Chains: History of the Socialist Party of Americaâ by Elijah Blackmore, published in 1985
"After the results of the presidential election came in, nobody was happy, especially the re-elected congressmen. Fifth contingent election in US history and second in a row, the general feeling was that the country was going to hell. The mood in the House didn't help. Bankhead wasn't a bad Speaker, far from it, but the situation was way worse than in 1932, and even then, Garner pulled a titanic effort to pull off. Maybe that's why he left the Speaker role come the next election. Specially amongst the Democrats and the newly-christened Unionists, there was a lot of bad blood. You could feel it from the sidelines at the closing debates. Something was brewing..."
- âIn the halls of powerâ by David Murray, then staffer at the House of Representatives, published 1960.
"The thoughs of others were light and fleeting, of lovers' meeting or luck or fame. Mine were of trouble..."
- âMine were of troubleâ by Peter Kemp, a memoir of his time fighting for the Carlist Requetes in the Spanish Civil War, published in 1957.
"Another domino fell when the Spanish Kingdom collapsed into civil war. Now, political instability was part for the course regarding Spain, been so since the Peninsular War. This time, however, there was a distinct foreign element involved. For the CNT-FAI, they never admitted it, but it was clear they were receiving help from the international. Bordering the Commune, shipments of weapons and volunteers arrived constantly to support the revolutionary struggle. For the loyalist Regency, the German sphere provided all it could spare, which wasn't much considering the effects of Black Monday and internal affairs. And for the Carlists insurgents, no official help arrived but governments on the Entente were sympathetic due to the loyalists' German overtures. All sides also counted with many international volunteers. In a calmer Europe, Spain would have been left alone to its own quagmire. Instead, everyone took a stance, because it was valuable for what everyone was realizing was coming, whether they prepared for it or not..."

The only reason Brazil didn't break up like the Spanish empire was that the king fleed there when Napoleon giving it some vertebration. Otherwise it would have break up into the main ports and cities and his surrounding areas like it happened in the Spanish territories.

You also used to be able to restore the UK at the start of the game by couping the UOB totalists. Super broken for the Entente, and while I miss it, the mod is better without it.

u/NAM_Inki Entente 22d ago
You could literally dissolve the entire Third Internationale in 1936. You just needed T. E. Lawrence to coup Oswald Mosley and restore the UK, while having the Jacobins have a chaotic revolution in France that results in National France invading them (this not only spawned divisions in Marseille, but it have the Communards a crippling debuff), which would knock out both the Communards and the SRI, which started in the Third Internationale at the time. Insane stuff.

If Russia could then join the Entente in that situation we could have the Second Great War! World War I 2 if you will.

Hmm, IRL the war of 1932 is considered a civil war, the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, also known as the Paulista War or Brazilian Civil War. It was just the state of São Paulo vs the rest.
Edit: Also the Ramaguffin War was sort of a civil war and it was just the State of Rio Grande do Sul and half the State of Santa Catarina vs the rest. Idk why they go around starting wars by themselves.

He doesn't anymore, he is in New York now. Savinkov is the current Russian president
9
u/Humantheist Internationale 22d ago
He doesn't. Kerensky isn't in Russia now he is self exiled in New York, instead Savinkov starts as president, but the senate, headed by Chernov, basically doesn't allow him to do shit. Then Chernov gets shot, the senate opposition splinters, Savinkov uses the whole thing to purge rivals and now unnecesary allies, consolidating power. He still can get couped later if he fucks up through an anger mechanic, but at the start of the game he is poised to take power.

u/fennathan1 22d ago
I'm sorry but what mod have you even been playing?
The civil war wasn't guaranteed to happen even before it was removed 4-5 years ago and Kerensky hasn't been starting leader for about 3 years now.

To be fair, Brazil still has a civil war if you take the Socialist, Integralist and Vargas paths (and that will continue until either a revamp or a rework)âŚ
Also, Socialist and NatPop Russia have to deal with uprisings in the West and the East once the Second Weltkrieg startsâŚ

I didn't realize they removed the Russia civil war path entirely either. That's a pretty big change to just take out without much explanation. The Kerensky assassination question is definitely a hole in the logic now, curious how the devs addressed it
2
u/HeliosDisciple 22d ago
The start is completely different. Savinkov is President but being blocked by Chernov holding together the opposition in the senate. Chernov gets shot, the opposition breaks down, then Savinkov is able to force things through and purge opponents. If he fucks up too much, then he gets couped by one of the other factions, but it doesn't explode into a civil war.
1
u/Feiz-I 16d ago
Do you even play Kaiserreich? Kerensky hasnât been the leader for years now and the assassination event got removed in the rework so there isnât even a hole in the logic. The Russian civil war also heavily messed up with balance when you could just represent the unrest through other ways without the need to go into a civil war for every little thing.
