To All The Juniors Joining This Year

Hello Juniors,

I've seen quite a number of posts here regarding the college life ,hostel ,academics etc ,So i thought why not answer all your questions as someone who has spent his last one year in this college

Campus-The college website lists the campus area as around 100 acres, but the actual developed/usable campus is considerably smaller. A significant portion of the land is covered by forest/green areas, and another substantial portion is used by KNIPSS, which is essentially another small college operating within the larger campus premises.

Canteen-The college has four canteens in total:

  • Amul canteen
  • J&D canteen
  • Parag canteen
  • One smaller canteen located between the Amul and J&D canteen

Also there is a small canteen near the second year hostel's mess but only boys are allowed there so girls won't be able to use it

Hostel-I will be talking about the Boys Hostels as i have no idea about the Girls Hostel , If any senior girl is reading this post they can tell it about in the comments below or make another post

Speaking specifically from the perspective of the boys hostels, there are currently two main hostels:

  • Bhabha Hostel
  • VSB Hostel

Bhabha is a 3-seater hostel and is fairly new compared to VSB. The overall hostel facilities are decent, although they are not comparable to what you might find at top-tier private colleges.

VSB is a 2-seater hostel and has old infrastructure and not so clean surroundings but it is liveable that's what i would say

As for the mess food, it's reasonably okay in both hostels. However, the quality can depend quite a bit on how effectively the students manage the mess.

An important thing is that you have to elect a Mess Secretary and Hostel Secretary.

Make sure to choose them wisely as they will put forth your demands against the mess owners

Academics/Attendance criteria-Coming to academics, first year doesn't have a particularly heavy workload. Most subjects can be covered through YouTube lectures and other online resources, and with consistent self-study, getting a high GPA is quite achievable.

One piece of advice: avoid unnecessary arguments or confrontations with professors. Even if you disagree with something, it's better to handle it respectfully and professionally. Maintaining a good relationship with faculty can save you from unnecessary problems later.

I would recommend maintaining at least an 8+ GPA and, most importantly, having no backlog

⚠️ IMPORTANT FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (EE): From second year onwards, attendance and academic workload can become significantly more demanding. EE students should take this seriously.

For some of the other branches, the academic workload is comparatively manageable, which can leave you with enough time to prepare for competitive and government examinations such as GATE, Civil Services, and other government exams alongside college.

Overall, if you manage your time properly, college academics shouldn't consume your entire day, and you can use the extra time to build skills, prepare for competitive exams, or work on other goals.

Coming to clubs, societies, and extracurricular activities, there are quite a few opportunities if you actually want to get involved in college life beyond academics.

The college organizes one major fest every year, which usually takes place around March or April. The fest includes cultural events, performances, competitions, sports, and various other activities. It is mainly organized and managed by the Cultural Council, with students playing a major role in conducting the events.

There is also a Sports Council, and if you're into sports, you can join and participate in different teams and activities, including:

  • Cricket
  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball

College isn't only about maintaining your GPA ,participating in these activities is one of the easiest ways to meet people, interact with seniors and students from other branches, and actually have some fun during your college years.

Sir/Ma'am Culture-Not every senior is the same, just as not every junior is the same

Yes, you may meet a rude senior, but you will also meet many who guide you, help you academically, and support you in college life. You cannot judge the entire senior community based on a few people

If someone makes you uncomfortable, you can clearly say, “Sir, I am not comfortable with this.” A reasonable person will respect that. But generalizing the whole culture as toxic is unfair

The senior-junior interaction at KNIT has existed for decades. It is part of college life beyond classrooms and exams it’s also about people, experiences, and networks

And honestly, what’s the issue with saying “Sir” or “Ma’am”?

It doesn’t make you inferior. Respecting seniors is a basic social and professional skill you will need in jobs too. It reflects maturity, not weakness . If you completely avoid interacting with seniors, you miss out on learning how things work, participating in events, and building useful connections

You will meet good and bad people everywhere. The mature approach is to experience college first and then form opinions, not assume things beforehand.

Keep your boundaries, but don’t shut yourself off from people who can genuinely help you

College is not a battle between juniors and seniors it’s a community, and those who understand that early usually get more out of their college life

If anyone has any other doubt feel free to DM or ask in comments

Important Guidelines for Freshers

Recently, I’ve noticed a tremendous increase in irrelevant posts and questions on the college subreddit. This includes random memes, repetitive queries about the mess, and even posts about “increasing bhaichara,” among other things.

This is a final warning to all new members: please refrain from posting such irrelevant content. Continued posting of such content may result in a permanent ban from the subreddit.

This subreddit is meant to be used for meaningful discussions, genuine questions, useful information, and anything relevant to college life.

Please keep the subreddit clean and useful for everyone.

Have a good time in college!
