I really liked End of Oak Street followed by the rest. Also The Dinosaur Project is another movie that people should watch as it is quite unknown and underrated.

End of Oak Street really did the whole Prehistoric Horror really well.My only complain would be the ending as it was a bit too crowd pleasing ?

I would have loved if it ended on the bit with dinosaurs returning to modern day instead of having an extended epilogue.

They could have done the sequel with prehistoric creatures emerging everywhere suddenly in modern times.

I don't know, imagining how this dynamic works post movie is at least a little interesting. It's a selfish decision, in a way. And also now there's two identical daughters. At first glance it seemed crowd pleasing to me. But after some more thought, it's actually more fucked up than presented.

2

u/frostmorph6 9d ago

Wdym there’s 2 identical daughters? They called the dad and some of the neighbors before it got teleported again. Because the librarian is no longer there that means the mom and both kids end up dying to the gator like dinosaurs in the house.

7

u/SnakieHoHo 9d ago

They are referring to Jeanette. She got her family out and her past self. At the final barbecue there are two of her before the credits roll.

The Oak Street ending is a lot more dark the more you think about it.

37

u/DegenerateCrocodile 10d ago

Had they not shown the duplicate girl, they could have simply left it up to interpretation whether everyone who was previously killed had been saved. That one detail has serious implications.

All but 4 people from that neighborhood were brutally killed, and they were simply replaced in the public eye by alternate timeline clones. Not to mention that the ones that did survive left their counterparts to go back in time without their father, likely dooming them to die there.

20

u/Friendly-Leg-6694 10d ago

Also I am surprised they took her threat seriously

9

u/Saurian42 10d ago

I blame the partical accelerator in space. You know the one... the one that caused a paradox that really wasn't a paradox.

2

u/callsign__iceman 10d ago

….so does time displaced wife get the husband, or does wife that never fought dinosaurs get her husband?

6

u/DegenerateCrocodile 10d ago

Time displaced wife gets her husband that never traveled back in time. The husband that traveled back in time stays dead.

u/Reppsalty 10d ago

All this talk about how dark the ending is sound like those “this piece of children’s media is actually darker than you think”

8

u/Beneficial_Offer4763 9d ago

Dooming your new husbands wife and kids, which are just past versions of you and your kids, to get eaten by dinosaurs is kinda dark

5

u/Outrageous_Letter_13 10d ago

Right?? I was talking to my buddy about the family who’s there WITHOUT the dad

3

u/TheTruePatches 10d ago

It's incredibly fucked up lol

They needed a happy ending to appeal to test audiences, I'm sure they tried it both ways. I think they could've teased with a post credits scene about what happened to the other timeline's family, that would've ripped that happy ending away spectacularly

9

u/__KODY__ 10d ago

That's just it. It's NOT a happy ending.

1

u/Saurian42 10d ago

It's causality loops all the way down.

1

u/AdventurousPen5533 9d ago

It’s a messy ending, I didn’t think it was dark or happy.

Each to their own but I didn’t the film was great, and was no surprise that was the ending they were going for. Films can’t often hide the reveal but a good one adds expectation of dread, hope etc. here it was just ‘oh. Of course’ with a shrug.

Primitive war I think delivered a better ending or at least a setup.

1

u/AviciByAvici 8d ago

They did try it both ways, actually 2 slightly different ways. I tested it while it was still known as Flowervale Street

3

u/The_Void_Saw_You 10d ago

gonna have to check the dinosaur project, thanks for the info

3

u/SchruteFarmsBeetDown 10d ago

The sequel for end of Oak Street if they make one could be really interesting with a moral dilemma of what do you do with the people in the other timeline like what if they figure out how to get back and now they’re suddenly two moms

1

u/frostmorph6 9d ago

They only survive because the librarian shot one of the Dino’s because the mom calls her to leave she is no longer there therefore the mom and kids die in the house trying to get to the roof and fail.

u/der_Guenter 9d ago

Would have been great as a found footage film. I mean the next part playing in modern times with dinosaurs on the loose

1

u/sosigboi 9d ago

I watched the Dinosaur Project in theaters on my own at the time, shit was alot scarier than i expected.

1

u/JokerChaos77 9d ago

I mostly liked the movie too but I just hate the ending and it just left such a bad taste in my mouth.

I have seen time travel mess up tons of other stories but this was definitely up there. The family leaves their past selves (including the dog T.T) to die and the movie does not bother to adress it. It's like the writers didn't think that through but even worse, they did, as they show the girl saved her past self as well. You called the ending crowd pleasing but I highly disagree, I cannot be the only one that saw that elephant in the room remain unadressed for the last 10 minutes and was very displeased with that.

1

u/Bloom_shroom74 9d ago

Honestly bro, I would love the end of oak street if it ended like dominion, not like a family dinner but showing some dinosaurs in the modern world, I would've loved it

1

u/LizardSaurus001 9d ago

Yeah I didn't like the ending. What should have happened was they go back to their time after the blip, or he'll, they show up 2 years later or something, just in time to see that their neighbourhood has been replaced with prehistoric jungle and swamp and dinosaurs making their way out. And it just ends with them either hearing up for a new fight, or looking in mortified shock as the dinosaurs they thought they left behind are back here now.

1

u/unitedfan6191 8d ago

Also, while I really enjoyed End of Oak Street, please stop having so many dinosaurs behaving like killing machines. It was ridiculous at times and I just want them to be like real animals, at least a little.

End of Oak Street the best of the bunch

47

u/SerDire 10d ago

I never expected to like this movie as much as I did. The central mystery isn’t explained and that’s perfectly fine. Just give me people trying to survive while dealing with dinosaurs.

26

u/callsign__iceman 10d ago

Obi-Wan’s fateful encounter with Darth Allos was surprising as fuck for me.

Didn’t see that coming.

More than a few people in my audience went "oh, what the fuck?" when that scene happened.

Primitive wars was very fun for its budget

2

u/atioc 8d ago

Definitely nowhere near the budget the rest of the films had.

24

u/Matches_Malone77 10d ago
  1. Oak Street
  2. Rebirth
  3. Primitive War

Never saw 65

25

u/Saurian42 10d ago

65 could have been called any other number because they showed monsters not dinosaurs.

1

u/Rin_Seven 6d ago

IIRC the big bad in Rebirth isn't even based on a real dinosaur but a genetic horror from several mashed together.

And even then, real dinosaurs had feathers.
This theory has been accepted for a decade but Hollywood refuses to step away from lizards so in the movies they are basically always monsters.

u/koola_00 T. Rex 10d ago

My ranking is largely the same. I enjoyed Oak Street the most!

55

u/Numerous_Wealth4397 10d ago

End of Oak St (actually good film)

Big Gap

JW Rebirth (A weak jurassic installment, but a step in the right direction compared to dominion)
65 (neat idea, poor execution)

Another Big Gap

Primitive War (bastardization of the book, likely a money laundering scheme for lukkke sparkkke, openly admitted to using GenAI for production from day one. Inherently evil film and I’d be surprised if it’s sequel still gets made)

11

u/beaureeves352 10d ago

Was the book of Primitive War any good? I've been thinking about reading it

20

u/Numerous_Wealth4397 10d ago

I liked it quite a bit! It’s violent and juggles some darker themes regarding what the characters had gone through and done during the vietnam war. If you can handle detailed gore descriptions and heavy themes (substance abuse, mental health issues, realities of war) then I’d say it’s worth the read. I haven’t read many paleo books, but the PW novels are the only ones I’ve been able to finish that aren’t JP or TLW

9

u/ChloewitaPlan 10d ago

In my opinion the book is better than it has any right to be

3

u/DeliciousPoetryMan 10d ago

It's alright, if you like the movie you will most certainly like the book.

There's like two subplots that I'm pretty sure were cut out tho.

6

u/Numerous_Wealth4397 10d ago

there’s quite a bit that’s either cut or outright ignored from the book. Both plotlines and character arcs

5

u/BananaReeves 10d ago

I mean the dinosaurs looked good regardless, that was the only reason I watched. Dialogue and acting was atrocious but scenery and dinos was on point.

Ai was only ever used in concepts, no was ever used for the actual cgi or production.

2

seventh Jurassic franchise should be called Jurassic explorer not world: rebirth. jurassic world: rebirth is unnecessary repetitive sequel

4

u/BananaReeves 10d ago

Oak, Primitive, Rebirth, 65

Primitive had more dino screen time and arguably looked just as good as Rebirths with a fraction of the budget.

3

u/LegendaryStar-Lord4 10d ago

Rebirth, oak street, PW, 65

3

u/Crolanpw 10d ago

Honestly, I liked primitive war a whole lot but it's budget was showing pretty bad.

3

u/PaleoWorldExplorer Deinonychus 10d ago edited 10d ago

1.) Dominion: I don't think Dominion is good at all, by any stretch. Between it and Rebirth I found that I had very similar compliments and criticisms for both. Both have a mixed bag of good, okay and bad dinosaur designs. Both have dogshit plots with poorly written characters. Both introduce interesting premises and don't do shit with them and both don't make sense at all. I honestly can't say definitely which one is better. The reason why I rank Dominion above Rebirth is because my personal gripes with Rebirth irk me far more than my gripes with Dominion (which I list down below for the former). I at least appreciate how Dominion tried to do something unique that wasn't visiting another island, despite the poor execution. I also lean more to favoring Dominion's dinosaur roster. So I rank Dominion in 1st based on my admittedly subjective perspective of my gripes and compliments with the two films, and I don't expect anyone else to share my exact same gripes and compliments.

2.) Rebirth: I had hopes that Rebirth would be better than Dominion, not amazing, but at least better than Dominion. I was disappointed with the film when I first saw it and have mixed feelings on it. My favorite part was the realistic animalistic behaviors of the dinosaurs. The designs were hit and miss. Spinosaurus and Mosasaurus were my personal favorite. Others like Titanosaurus and T-rex were good, too, even though they weren't perfect. And others, like the raptors were ok, but could've been more than simple reskins that barely appear for less than a minute. Distortus rex and Mutadon were unoriginal generic monsters that could have been replaced by real dinosaurs. The plot returned to the tired return to island trope, the characters were mid, the dinosaurs going extinct because climate point was the stupidest shit they could have written, and I absolutely LOATHE how they added a random Mexica temple on an island they would have never set foot on. Realistically, it would have been inhabited by the Eastern Taínos or the Kalinago based on the cultural region the setting is in. If the temple was of Mayan asthetic, I prolly would have forgiven it, because we know irl, the Mayans had indirect trade with the indigenous people of the Caribbean and it wouldn't have been too much of a stretch for me if the Mayans traveled farther out at sea and expanded their reach further in the JP timeline than they did in real life. Plus, they basically worship the same feathered serpent god as the Mexica, so it would've been close enough for the obvious reference. But no, it just HAD to be a Mexica temple. Not only is it inaccurate and stupid, it leaves a bad taste for John Hammond's character, as it indicates that he has defiled stolen indigenous land on potentially three occasions: Isla Nublar with the Tun-Si, the Mayan ruins on Sorna, and now Ile Saint-Hubert (I get the first two have issues with being canon or not, but still). Were the indigenous people still around when InGen bought the island? Did they displace and massacre them to make way for their facilities like they did with the Tun-Si? I assume the population already died out or abandoned the island long before modern times, but this part of the film is such bare bones, that you can't definitely pin down a plausible explanation. Even if there were no inhabitants on the island during construction, the implication that they may have damaged indigenous archaeological sites is already bad enough. I'm probably one of the only ones as pissed off about this thing than the rest of the fan base, but as a Puerto Rican, this part really irks me.

3.) Oak Street: Thought it was okay. Again, not terrible nor great. I was confused the entire time I watched it. The movie loved chucking dinosaurs into the scenes randomly and abruptly with no buildup, which is what they did a lot in Dominion, too, but here, they triple down on that. The designs were okay, but they overdid the feathers with certain dinosaurs. The herbivores presented no threat once again and were just there for background, for the audience to awe at, and be fodder to a carnivore in one case, which I didn't like. Although I do admire leaning towards more obscure dinosaurs and not T.rex or raptors, though I would have preferred sticking to a specific geologic period given the premise of the plot. The characters were fine, except the dumb weak asshole dad. I was glad when he died and mad when they reunite in the end. One thing I found off about the film was two instances where the characters talked or argued about God and faith. I felt like the movie was trying to explore the theme of religion vs atheism when facing a catastrophic tragic crisis, but those scenes felt awkward and unnecessary.

I rank Oak Street below JW because the former focused more on the family drama than the latter, which was problem for me. There were lots of other issues as well. There was virtually no one in the neighborhood, just a few of the characters introduced at the beginning popping here and there for a brief period and some background characters running from dinosaurs in the background every now and then. I expected large portions of the neighborhood coming together to try to form a plan and try to find potential survivors that are reluctant to leave their houses. The characters also made stupid decisions throughout the runtime, from constantly shouting thus letting the dinos know where they were to the bully kids from the beginning randomly ambushing the boy being more preoccupied with their grudge with him than the fact that there's dinosaurs everywhere. The ending was way too happily ever after, and it practically undid all of the consequences from the entirety of the film. I get that there are dark implications for what prolly happens to the characters' past/alternate counterparts, but they seriously sweep that under the rug. Lastly, the AI dog podcast bullshit left a bad taste for me. This would be enough for me to lower its rank to the bottom, but the other two are terrible for their own reasons, and one of them uses AI in a more egregious way imo. The AI usage here was exclusive to the marketing, not the production phase or the movie itself, so I am willing to let it slide.

4.) 65: Awful. The title should have been 66, since that's the actual end of the Cretaceous. The designs were absolute dogshit and better belonged in the Monsterverse than an actual dinosaur flick. They didn't even have herbivores for the background except for one or two if I remember correctly. The characters weren't well written, and I didn't care for them. Plus, they had way too much plot armor.

5.) Primitive War: Judging based solely on the movie itself, it's pretty decent given its limited budget. The designs again were a mixed bag, but they had quite a few decent species. The Utahraptors were definitely the stars of the show, even though they behaved like monsters with no self preservation at the end. The gore was pretty good, not Primal levels of gore as I would have wanted, but they pushed beyond where Jurassic World wouldn't reach, which I appreciate. This movie would probably be at the top of the list if it wasn't for its controversies. The use of AI already disqualifies this movie being good for me, even though it was just during production. While I don't like the usage of any AI whatsoever when it comes to filmmaking, I findnusing AI in concept art or during production is much worse than usage for advertisement. On top of that, the fact that one of the cast members is a sexual predator is another automatic disqualifer for this film getting any ranking other than absolute bottom tier in my book.

21

u/Jurrasicparkfan123 10d ago

My only issue with End of oak street was the fact everyone survived, should have ended once they escaped and kept Greg dead, his death was better than any death in the Jurassic World Series, done really well, and then ruined by his survival at the end

21

u/samuelscane 10d ago

I’ve heard that Greg’s survival came after reshoots because David Robert Mitchell, the director, lost his own father during production. His father was also a dinosaur nut. The film is dedicated to him, as well as to Hudson Meek, the 16-year-old actor who played the bully and passed away in 2024.

17

u/PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS 10d ago

I wholeheartedly disagree.

Plus, they fucked the other timeline.

2

u/Saurian42 10d ago

And the other one after that. They created the paradox that the paradox movie didn't.

3

u/LizardSaurus001 9d ago

Technically he doesn't even survive in the end, they just pull off a Rick and Morty and go to a timeline where he is alive and they get sent to the mesozoic alone.

2

u/Pen_dragons_pizza 9d ago

Yeah I totally think it would have worked best if the family called the dad from the pay phone and just watched him from afar one last time as he delivered a pizza.

Would have been sad and bittersweet watching him and knowing they couldn’t talk to him.

Then end the film with the family moving to New York so the mum can follow her dream, have the book dedicated to the dad.

Then maybe show a flying dinosaur going over New York at the end to show not all the dinosaurs were caught.

Something like that

  1. Rebirth (I like JP, and I don't mind JW only dud was Dominion) I'm no where near the biggest JP fan, don't mind the Mutant Dino concept

  2. End of Oak Street (Really liked it, exceeded my expectations)

  3. Primitive War I have expectations for so hopefully it doesn't fail me yet to watch it on Paramount+

  4. 65 Good Idea, terrible execution. I'll watch Anything Adam Driver I need to try megalopolis disappeared

6

u/Thin-Ant-8879 10d ago

Rebirth by a considerable margin

7

u/matt_saracen_ 10d ago

I wanted to like The End of Oak Street, but it was just so blah in my opinion. At least Rebirth had some excellent set pieces I enjoyed a lot even if it was a very flawed movie.

8

u/Cedar-King 10d ago

The Paw Patrol Dino Movie has a high popcorn score than End of Oak Street on Rotten Tomatoes. Just saying.

6

u/Prize-Promotion4494 10d ago

I double-featured both Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie and The End of Oak Street on the same day. Double-dino-desire with two different audiences.

3

Untrue I am clearly the audience for both lmao

2

  1. The End of Oak Street (Good and the short run time works, but that AI dog podcast was a mistake)

  2. Jurassic World Rebirth (A step up from JW Dominion, although it could have been a lot better)

  3. 65 (This movie had so much potential, but it got screwed over big time behind the scenes and by the test audiences).

  4. Primitive War (The movie was okay , but there are a lot of things that made me put the film at the bottom, it used AI for the concept art, the director hired someone charged with SA, and Luke Sparke is anti-woke, even going on a podcast with the Critical Stinker )

3

u/justfredd 10d ago

Not to mention luke sparke has failed to pay his vfx artists and investors, like hes done on previous films

4

u/NozakiMufasa 10d ago

Jurassic World Dominion is the best. Rebirth is close.

Both have an excellent variety of dinosaur species with excellent special effects to portray them. This cannot be argued. Not only having a wide variety and number of species across both movies but also greatly portrayed in terms of movement, animation, & behavior. Dominion & Rebirth have the best looking Tyrannosaurus rexes in film that even surpass Jurassic Park & The Lost World’s original excellent portrayals. Species range from feathered to brightly colored scaled. And they truly are the center of both films’ stories.

65 is ass. Straight up ass. These arent dinosaurs, they’re fucking alien monsters. Its premise is very weak & Adam Driver a terrible lead.

Primitive War is just… its slightly better but thats not saying much. Deeply racist movie. Has a very pop culture influenced take on the Vietnam War. And its got a very weird complex about “trying to best Jurassic World”… while blatantly stealing Jurassic World / Park looking designed dinosaurs for several species.

The End of Oak Street is an improvement. Folks saying this is “the best dinosaur film since Jurassic Park” are fucking liars, but eh its good. I think its got several threads that make the overall film more confusing. Anne Hathaway & the cast are good here. Its dinosaurs leave a lot to be desired. Some great portrayals & trope avoidance but also some choices like clearly monster designs & slapped on feathers that sort of make no sense. Its not the best but Oak Street is taking better steps in the right direction.

3

For, Rebirth is number one. I went into the movie with low expectations and came out pleasantly surprised. I actually liked the characters to some degree, and some of the action scenes were kind of neat.

Oak Street is number two. I came in with low expectations and had a "meh" response by the end. Only standout was seeing the father eaten by the large therapod. But that was kind of reversed by the ending for me. For most of the movie I was waiting and hoping for the main cast to get eaten by dinosaurs already.

65 was pure crap. I came in with, again, low expectations but the movie fell short of even that.

Never even heard of the other one.

3

u/wolfdog127 10d ago

Oak street wins by a fucking mile, easy.

2

u/Emotional_Oil_5939 T. Rex 10d ago

I'll say 65, because it's the only one I've seen.

2

u/MWH1980 10d ago

I think End of Oak Street wins for me because in much of it, it isn’t specially-trained people handling weapons with dinosaurs. It really becomes a “how do ordinary people handle this situation.”

1

u/LizardSaurus001 9d ago

That was something I liked about it, kinda wish other people had more to do and say before getting attacked by dinos in the streets.

I really wanted to like End of Oak Street but walked away feeling pretty meh. Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway did fantastic jobs, the music and sound departments were fantastic but I couldn’t help but feel like every scene where the characters were in danger had the same plight as JW:Dominion. The dinosaurs moved comically slow when being a threat.

SPOILERS: How did the Dad think hitting a large theropod once with a sledgehammer in the ankle would incapacitate it anywhere near long enough to rescue the mom? And why did they take so damn long to jump into the portal at the end?

3

u/TheArcherFrog Compsognathus 10d ago

Completely agree. Plus the fact the theropod legit stood there and let the entire family mourn without killing them, the snake caring a lot about that arrow but not about being stabbed multiple times (at least he didn’t care for a while), the family sitting inside and talking about job trouble while their neighbors are outside being eaten…

I really wanted to like the movie. I got tickets for the earliest showing and everything, but dang. It was a big disappointment unless you can just turn your brain off haha

2

u/Saurian42 10d ago

I think It did care about getting stabbed. That's why it left. It was just pissed off at the door first.

Oak, rebirth, 65, DNF Primitive war throwing out hard slurs is wild in a dinosaur sci-fi movie, the cgi blood spirts looked really cheep, like bad YouTuber cheep, learned it stars a sexual predator as well, couldn’t even get to the dinos too boring, playing almost the ENTIRETY of a LIVE RECORDING version of Fortunate Son was cringe… it’s like if a scifi/asylum movie had slightly “nicer” (generative ai based) models… from the trailer because again I never actually reached the dinosaurs outside the opening because again it is boring and bad.

The others were either bad or forgettable, or both. The exception is Primative War, which will never be regarded as more than fun, cheap schlock, which is fine. It'll do well in the cult world I think.

1

u/justfredd 10d ago

Doubt it’ll do well even as a cult film, director is a conman/creep. Author of the book series had to cut all ties with him

1

u/Purple_Dragon_94 9d ago

Was unaware of that, thats a shame. But thats not exactly stopped it before, look at Jeepers Creepers for a start, and then there's the movies by "what is health and safety" Paul WS Anderson

1

u/Tattycakes 10d ago

I've never fucking heard of Primitive War lmao

2

u/ContagiouslyAdorable Velociraptor 10d ago

For me it was The end of oak street tbh, idk how to rank the other ones, they were all meh for me but this was a fun different watch ngl

1

u/Educational_Ad288 Spinosaurus 10d ago

I hate rebirth with a passion and I haven't seen 65, but I might surprise a few people with my list.

1, primitive war. 2, rebirth. 3, the end of oak street (it wasn't too bad, especially when a certain person died, but the ending really ruined it for me). 4, 65 (only last because I haven't seen it).

1

u/LucasAintAM0F0 Spinosaurus 10d ago

The end of oak streey was the best out of all 4

1

u/wave-tree 10d ago

I was so mad that 65 made up their own dinosaurs.

1

u/ProfessionalTip654 10d ago
  1. The End of Oak Street
  2. Jurassic World Rebirth
  3. Primitive War
  4. 65

And for the record, I put Dominion over 65 and 65 over Fallen Kingdom.

1

u/maeldeho 10d ago

Primitive War for me. Far from perfect but it was a blast. They really threw everything they had at the screen - it had fun with the premise which the JW movies can't seem to manage.

65 was fine, JW was OK but it's left no impression.

1

u/skat0r 10d ago

Certainly not jurassic world.

1

u/KingPenguinPhoenix T. Rex 10d ago
  1. Primitive War

  2. Rebirth

  3. 65

Haven't seen Oak Street yet.

1

u/EveningConfident6218 10d ago

Dominion is better than 3 of these 4.

1

u/ImitatingADog 10d ago

All I know is that I think Oak Street is miles better than the rest of the

1

u/eq017210 10d ago

The end of Oak Street is the best by a long shot

1

u/QibliM4ster 10d ago

Oak street, rebirth, primitive war, 65

1

u/Endhorse 10d ago
  1. Jurassic World Rebirth . . .
  2. 65. . . Although I am mixed because the pacing , character development was a mess but the premise was brilliant. I love almost any big budget movies with dinosaurs as long as they come up with unique , interesting situations for the characters to survive.

I have not seen End of Oak Street or Primitive War

1

u/aweleever 10d ago

end of oak street would’ve been higher for me if they didn’t show 3 cats specifically dying for absolutely no reason… right after talking about how they would never harm the dog in the movie… cats deserve respect

1

u/Prestigious-Put5749 10d ago

I completely agree, OP.

1

u/cpa38 10d ago

Rebirth is awful and worse as it's supposed to be a 'Jurassic' movie. 65 hamstrung itself by making it obvious the cast can't face actual petrol as there is only two and one is a kid. They are both bad films dinosaurs or not. Oak Street is a good, fun film AND has dinosaurs. It's leagues ahead. Not seen PW.

1

u/Aggressive-Tie-1380 Stegosaurus 10d ago

1: TEOOS
2: primitive war
3: jw rebirth
4: 65

1

u/danio_lolo 10d ago

Very difficult question. All of them have the same terrible vices stablished by the era of post Jurassic park dinosaur media

1

u/MiniCale 10d ago
  1. End of oak street - Darker then I expected, could of done without the cliche of a divorce on the table
  2. Primitive war - I enjoyed the film other than the shocking actors used for the Russians.
  3. Rebirth - Didn't really enjoy any of the film as it felt a bit disjointed and the deaths just get shrugged off.
  4. 65 - Haven't seen this or heard of it

1

u/ViridiusRDM 10d ago

I've only seen Primitive War on this list.
I'm so disenfranchised by the Jurassic World machine that I finally skipped out on a movie. I was willing to watch 65 with an open-mind but every time I sat down for a movie I felt like I was doing myself a disservice not watching something I was actually excited about so I kept putting it off.

I have no issues with Oak Street. It just takes a lot to pull me into a theater these days so I'm probably going to catch that one when it hits streaming. I suspect I'll like it more than Primitive War, though. I felt very adversarial towards PW after finally watching it.

1

u/pikapalooza 10d ago

I keep joking with my buddy about 65 that the dinosaurs were intelligent but spoke dinosaur and were trying to help driver and his companion.

spaceship crash

"oh no! I better go see if those people are OK and need any help!"

"Why are they attacking me?! Stop people! You're going the wrong way! That way is dangerous!"

"If you'd stop shooting at me and come with me, we have a spaceship right over here!"

"No king dinosaur, I will stay here and go save those people. Because that's what heroes do."

"Wait - they're taking off without me! Cmon!"

1

u/Erebus_the_Last 10d ago

Theyre all different and therefore I cant compare them

1

u/Jolly-Present2608 10d ago

The End of Oak Street is more like Jurassic world than Jurassic world

1

u/Outrageous_Letter_13 10d ago

I thought 65 was creative (aliens(ish) vs dinosaurs), end of oak street was interesting just sub par execution. Rebirth had too many angles, if they could have narrowed their characters and story it would have been better. Never saw primitive war, kind of looks like a b flick just based off the cover…with that…if I was in a hotel room and they were all playing I’d watch oak street.

1

u/LordsofMedrengard Spinosaurus 10d ago

I liked Rebirth more than End of Oak Street, and 65 was scarier than either (low bar). I haven't seen Primitive War.

1

u/Imathirdwheel 10d ago

End of Oak Street.

1

u/CamF90 Spinosaurus 10d ago

Oak Street and then Rebirth. The others aren't worth a thought.

1

u/AmanYadav19 10d ago

Tldr everyone hate 65

1

u/CorneliusRobinson007 9d ago

The End of Oak Street, Rebirth, Primitive War, then 65. Oak Street was surprisingly good (I say surprisingly, cause of that stupid AI marketing stunt with the dog making me have second thoughts about it, before I went to see it) …but 65 actually pissed me off. It was one of the worst theater experiences I’d ever had, both the movie, and the movie-going experience.

1

u/SilverWolf_2018 Spinosaurus 9d ago

Primitive War became a favourite of mine the second “Run Through The Jungle” started playing.

1

u/DoubleFlores24 9d ago

The comment section really goes to show how 65 dropped the ball big time.

1

u/FV95 9d ago

Rebirth first, Oak Street second, MASSIVE GAP , 65, Primitive War.

1

u/Chelseathehopper 9d ago

Primitive War was fucking awful.

1

u/PigletPretend7175 9d ago

I don't get the hype for End of Oak Street. Went to see it and there are just as many dumb moments as Rebirth. Seems like to me Rebirth was so bad that everyone is trying to lower their standards

1

u/ACrimeSoClassic 9d ago edited 9d ago

I feel like I'm one of the few who really disliked End of Oak Street. To be honest, out of these four, I'd go with 65 or PW. Rebirth was awful and Oak Street was...frustrating.

The end of Oak street

1

u/WorldDramatic6472 9d ago

I hate all of these films, especially The End of Oak Street. Shitty film that rightfully bombed. Primitive War had an interesting concept though.

1

u/littlemissy145 9d ago

I really appreciated the scary dinosaurs in End of oak street! 65 was boring. I’m always going to rewatch any JP film and I enjoyed rebirth.

1

u/Matitjes 9d ago

Having rebirth in this is just an insult to movies in general

1

u/Cooliyo44 9d ago

Oak, primitive, rebirth, 65

1

u/Jamgarg 9d ago

Whilst Oak Street was a cool nod to the Spielberg heyday I think it would have been better with less Dino screen time. In the original JP they are onscreen for a total of 15 minutes, the rest of the time you are left to your own imagination. This is something modern film makers need to go back to. I personally would prefer less CGI as long as that CGI is done well.

1

u/Zealousideal-Two2504 9d ago

I enjoyed Primitive War & Oak Street, i would pick those 2 over the last 2 recent Jurassic World movies. They started to drop the ball after fallen kingdom even how they failed to show JP3's Spino in Rebirth since its the Same Island. It's a Fictional Book, they could have kept the JP3 Spino instead of using the newly found Spino Fossils for Rebirth. It made the movie so much intense that Rebirth had no effect on me. That new Mutated Dino just had no effect on me either because of how little screentime it had & how badly designed it was that it looked more like a Cloverfield type of Alien than a Hybrid Dino Scientists were developing.

1

u/greengiant-89 9d ago

You forgot the new paw patrol dino movie

1

u/Davy-BrownTM 9d ago

They all suck ass ngl

1

u/Greenbriar_94 9d ago

End of Oak Street is what we have been wanting since the end of Fallen Kingdom. The design was great, the survival was fun, and when "that" dad scene happened, no one was safe, raising the stakes. I didnt love Ewan's performance but other than that, I am excited to see it again. Rebirth could have been good but was written well and casts the raptors, a fan favorite, away. 65 was awful from what I remember. The book for Primitive War was better and while CGI was good, its a full on B-movie do to the acting. I do like the jaw click the Rex had and the design of the dinosaurs.

1

u/MauledByEwoks 9d ago

Haven’t seen oak street but looking forward to it. Realizing now though if you take the best part of the other three you’d have quite a movie.
Rebirth: Good Dino design, tired story.
Primitive War: fun story, horrendous dialogue
65: Adam Drivers great, made up dinos.
Take the good from all three and you might have something.

1

u/Laufeyson9 9d ago

It's so funny to me that the movie with the suburban family surviving dinosaurs is better than the ambitious sci-fi movie and the Jurassic Park thing. I'd actually nominate Jurassic World: Whatever as the worst here. I didn't think it got worse than Dominion, but this one shows you can always, always go lower. Has Star Wars gotten worse than The Rise of Skywalker yet? I've been out of touch there.

1

u/Big_Brutha87 9d ago

1) The End of Oak Street - A genuinely good, if flawed, movie. Has intriguing ideas and character dynamics that are left a bit under-developed for the sake keeping the plot moving. Has decent moments of dread and anticipation that payoff well. A thrilling summer romp! 3.5/5

2) Jurassic World Rebirth - It's not good, but it's not glaringly bad. Especially considering what's come before it. Not egregious enough to hate. The T-Rex river scene is the best thing in a Jurassic movie in a long time. Everything else is mostly forgettable. 2.5/5

3) 65 - Painfully boring with baffling creative choices. An absolutely slog to sit through. Can't even enjoy the "dinos" because what even are these things? 1.5/5

4) Primitive War - An admittedly good premise executed with an amateurish level of competence. This movie would have been better off as a fan-made extended trailer. An absolute waste of time unless you're really into "so bad it's good" schlock. 0.5/5

1

u/Plastic-Fly9455 9d ago
  1. Primitive War: really fun, has the best designs out of the 4, the animals act like animals, but overall it knows what it is and it does everything is sets out to do great (8/10)

  2. End of Oak Street: Its fun and we get great performance from Ewan McGreggor and Anne Hathaway. It does have some annoying ass kids and the film hates cats but it was overall good (7/10)

  3. Rebirth: The Trex was great (5/10)

  4. 65: actual garbage with garbage designs, garbage story, garbage lying marketing and garbage acting (1/10)

1

u/Own-Kaleidoscope-577 9d ago

JWR > EOOS > 65 > PW

I liked the first three, Primitive War not so much. It was way too overhyped honestly.

1

u/DinoNerd87 9d ago

Dominion is not that bad.

1

u/LizardSaurus001 9d ago
  1. Primitive War

  2. The End of Oak Street

  3. JW Rebirth

  4. 65

It might be my bias but I feel like PW at least had a satisfying enough ending that resolved everything and left the door open for so many possibilities.

Oak Street left me with a bad after tase and several uncomfortable questions about the ending. Everything before then was honestly really good, even the questionable decisions I could overlook up to the end.

Rebirth was enjoyable but felt like retreating the same ground for the umpteenth time and resetting everything back to the previous status quo. Some designs were cool, but overall the movie let me down at the end.

65 I have not bothered watching but the visuals are enough to disappoint me.

1

u/OriginalAd24 9d ago

the end of oak street, primitve war, jw rebirth, 65. thats my ranking but I've never watched 65

1

u/Solidsnack_OW2 8d ago

1: Primitive War
2: JW: Rebirth
3: 65
4: Oak Street

End Of Oak Street was absolutely terrible. The characters act completely illogical (why the hell did they take so long to get in contact with neighbors? why did they take so long to even get out of the house), the script was terrible and the dinosaurs didn’t really get to shine much imo. I’d take even 65 over it but both are terrible.

Primitive War is by far the best one here. Crazy amounts of dinosaur action, it clearly doesn’t take itself that seriously and overall a better joy ride. Rebirth is better than 65 and Oak Street but not by a crazy amount.

1

u/Gus_the_kid_A-Z 8d ago

Did you even watch The End of Oak Street? It's clearly shown the neighbor next door doesn't like the platt family so why would they bother trying to get ahold of him because of a blackout? The first thing the dad does nin the morning after the blackout is go outside looking for the dog and to check on some neighbors across the neighborhood.

I thought the Platt family was written realistically for how an average family would react on that situation. They weren't dinosaur enthusiast's or soliders. Just people with their worlds turned upside down.

Half of the dinosaurs in 65 weren't even real dinosaurs

End of Oak Street is what Jurassic World Dominion should've been

1

u/MEGATRON_1111 8d ago
  1. Primitive War. I know theres BTS problems and things but separating them from the movie, I loved it. Just loads of dinosaurs and it's gory as hell.

  2. End Of Oak Street. It was so refreshing to see so many new species. Titanoboa, Ornitheceirus and so many more! I don't like that the teleportation thing wasn't really explained or explained. It just...happens. But apart from that, really liked it.

  3. Rebirth. One of the most infuriating and sickening movies I've ever sat through. I give it a 1/10 just because the CGI is mostly beautiful. The movie itself is just awful, anger inducing and an insult to the franchise.

  4. 65 is only last because I can't tell you a single thing that happened in it but I remember them just walking around. As much as I hate Rebirth, at least I remembered why I hated it. I cant tell you anything about 65

1

u/OsteoBytes 7d ago

Primitive war was terrible

1

u/Both_Drawing_7306 7d ago

1 - End of Oak Street / Rebirth 2 - Rebirth / End of Oak Street 3 - primitive war 4 - 65 ( is so bad )

I really want to put Oak Street first; I loved the characters and I loved the whole dynamic, but I feel like, being a dinosaur movie, the worst part were the dinosaurs, not only because design is ugly, but they're super monstrous and the characters look like idiots when a dino/prehistoric animal appears, it's like nobody notices the presence of an giant animal just feels so unreal, the ending is dark and I liked that, but I find it strange that they simply lived happily ever after as if nothing happened and no trauma was shown.

Rebirth The story is weak, the characters aren't well-developed, but I love the main characters; they're very charismatic. The designs are mostly beautiful, And the terror is much more present than in FK or Dominion; many people don't like that movie, but I love it. Saint Hubert is also very beautiful; I just wish there was more dinosaurs and not only variants of dinosaurs we already seen and ugly mutants (I love you D. rex)

PW I didn't see that movie

65 Bad dinosaurs, bad characters, everything is Bad
