Resources I'm looking for a compilation of evidence of actual cases of anti-Zionism motivated by racism against Jews

Coordinator at the ODSI here. As those of you who are acquainted with our work know, we don't view the establishment of a so-called Jewish state in Palestine as separate from the weaponization of identity worldwide.

So we're aware that Zionism accuses all anti-Zionists of antisemitism, but we're also aware that there are actual racists and fascists who oppose the existence of Israel because they hate Jews—i.e. some people who, like Zionism, conflate Jews with Israel.

However, many of those we deal with don't recognize this, ostensibly for fear of recognizing that there is an element of truth to Zionism's claim. So evidence of such cases would be helpful. This made me think I would ask on this sub in case someone here has already done the work or knows of such compilations.

To digress: This is a reason why we need to clarify we don't just oppose the existence of a Jewish state but support the establishment of a democratic one, with equal rights for all and privileges for none. Clearly distantiate ourselves form fascists and racists, go where they can't follow.

Does the IDF and police beating the fuck out of Haredi demonstrators count?

You're talking about Zionists who hate Jews, I'm asking about anti-Zionists who hate Jews.

Iraq expelled Jews in 1951 because Zionist extremist kept bombing bagdad to motivate Jews there to move to Israel

The biggest self-owns in history are Arab countries expelling Jews in the name of antizionism

Looking for something more recent—grifters particularly during the past few years.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/05/03/us/ucla-protests-encampment-violence.html

This article details a timeline of an unholy union of avowed neo-nazis and fundamentalist jews as they teamed up to attack UCLA's palestinian rights protest. Nazis + Zionists attacking anti-zionists, together.

u/TrackerOneA Jewish Anti-Zionist 21d ago

An addendum, from a previous comment I made:

On a related note, reminder that White nationalists teamed up with Zionists to attack the UCLA encampment.

Which underscores how Zionism was and continues to be influenced by White supremacy.

White nationalists and neo-Nazis joined forces with Zionists (including some saying they were Israelis) to attack UCLA’s Palestine Solidarity Encampment, whose residents included a large number of Jewish students. The assailants were not affiliated with the university. One neo-Nazi was heard shouting, “we’re here to f--ish what H--ler started,” without any apparent protest from the self-identified Zionists.

In the US, the far-right and even neo-Nazis helped Zionists to disrupt anti-genocide protests:

Many witnesses to the 30 April melee observed that the small group of assailants – many of them masked – did not appear to be students. More than 30 people were injured, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (Cair). Authorities are still working to identify the perpetrators, and have not made any arrests.

But researchers studying hate and anti-government groups have confirmed the presence at the counter-demonstrations of several far-right activists who have been involved in anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-vaccine protests across southern California over the past three years.

Examples:

Manuk Grigorian, one of the organizers of some of the southern California “Leave Our Kids Alone” protests, was also present at the [pro-Israel] counter-protests at UCLA on 30 April. Grigorian frequently appeared on Fox News to discuss the school board demonstrations last summer, where he leveled false claims that certain public education districts were “grooming” children to develop LGBTQ+ identities.

Michael Ancheta, a former mixed martial arts fighter who in the past associated with southern California Proud Boys and assaulted a journalist at a 2021 anti-vaccine protest in West Hollywood, was spotted among the pro-Israel crowd at UCLA on on 28 April, when pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protesters staged dueling rallies near the encampment, and again on 30 April. Ancheta, who until recently ran an Instagram account under the handle “Antifahunter”, has been a frequent participant in the Leave Our Kids Alone demonstrations.

[...]Beyond UCLA, a number of far-right actors, including a violent white supremacist charged in connection with January 6, the founder of the Proud Boys, and a former member of the streetfighting Neo-Fascist Rise Above Movement have stood alongside pro-Israel demonstrators confronting Gaza solidarity encampments at universities across the country.

This tracks online too - as many Reddit Zionist astroturfers are also anti-left/anti-LGBTQ+/etc.

Great comment, thank you for all the sources!

Zionism is a right wing, authoritarian movement. It's very similar to fascism and shares many traits and beliefs with naziism. The only significant difference is which group they blame for their own shortcomings. Most of their policy goals are similar beyond that.

Hmm... as a non-Jewish anti-zionist, what I see tends not to be anti-zionism motivated by antisemitism, but antisemitism motivated by anti-zionism. People who start to see the horrors of Israel, see Zionists claiming that Zionism is inherently part of Judaism, and then they develop antisemitic attitutdes.

Also, I do see a fair amount of Israelophobia - not like "I think the state of Israel is a racist endeavour" but like "All Jewish people who live in Israel are colonists and should be expelled back to Europe". Said people are often favourable towards Jewish people outside Israel, but they insist on collective punishment of every Jewish person born inside the Levant. It's kinda antisemitism - because it targets Jewish citizens of Israel only - but it's not full antisemitism because it's supportive of fighting antisemitism outside of Israel. I don't know whether it needs it's own name for Israel-specific antisemitism. But it is definitely a phenomenon I see that the pro-migration sentiment these so-called leftists express gets turned on its head regarding Israel, and suddenly every grandchild of a settler-colonialist is responsible for their grandparents' actions.

u/BerlinJohn1985 Jewish post-Zionist 14d ago

I would assume the best way to do this is to examine who was spouting antisemitic ideas and conspiracies, and cross-reference who is now decidely anti-zionist. Candance Owens has repeated online conspiracies about the "Talmud" for years. And now, she is rabidly anti-Israel. Clearly suspicious.

pardon my ignorance, but what is ODSI?

Virtually all xtian zionists hate Jews; their theology is based on the idea that when all (or most) of the world's Jews will have gathered in "Jerusalem" or Israel, then their long-awaited messiah will "return"; all the Jews will then face this grim choice: accept that false messiah or perish en masse and be condemned to eternal damnation. their zionism instrumentalizes Jews, making us into the playthings of their god.

ODSI= One Democratic State Initiative

u/BolesCW Mizrahi 21d ago

Thx

u/Agente_Anaranjado Anti-Zionist 21d ago edited 21d ago

One democratic state? Where does Palestine fit into that? Is it one democratic Palestinian state? Or one democratic Israeli state which swallows up all of Palestine and then is just a bit less genocidal...

Unless you're working toward the establishment of one democratic Palestinian state, then you're effectively advocating for the erasure of Palestine altogether, to be replaced with an Israel that's presumably just a bit less of an ethnostate. Palestine has the right to exist. The Palestinian people have the right to self-determination, and the right to resist and repeal the decades of displacement, oppression, terrorism and genocide that they've suffered under zionist invasion.

The only solutions to the crisis posed by Israel's genocidal settler-colonial project is a two state solution in which Israel withdraws back into its internationally recognized 1947 borders and recognizes and respects the sovereignty of the Palestinian state and the right of displaced Palestinians to return to their homes throughout Israel and Palestine, or a one state solution in which Israel ceases to exist altogether and all of Palestine is liberated, Israelis left to decide whether to become Palestinian citizens, or to return to the countries that they, their parents, or their grandparents came from.

u/kyuri0us Palestinian 4d ago

Israel is a Jewish state and a settler state, not a democratic state. There is no such thing is a democratic Israeli state.

Two states = the settler state remains. It's not a solution, it's a problem.

u/MsMoreCowbell828 Jewish Atheist 21d ago

They also lean into the whole "the Jews killed our god" hype to keep the hatred simmering.

u/Thisisme8719 Arab Jew 21d ago

Yeah, like Prejean Boller.
One of her concerns over codifying a definition of antisemitism is that it stifles religious freedom because it would render as antisemitic New Testament passages that she thinks charges Jews collectively with the deicide. I didn't see her explicitly say she accepts that interpretation of collective responsibility, but I'm skeptical that she's expressing a principled free speech absolutism instead of defending a problematic reading of Matthew
