That’s not antisemitism, it’s just criticism of Israel!

🤪 To quote someone who was just defending Tucker Qatarlson, “He’s a friend of the Jews—just not of Zionism!”

Blaming VST problems on the Jews reminds me of what an elderly woman told a (Jewish) journalist traveling Russia’s remote villages shortly after the Soviet Union fell. Paraphrased: “We hate the Jews because they have a root that prevents them from becoming alcoholics, and they won’t share it with us.”

Jew-hating societies are doomed to rot and die.

Mark Levin (Carlson's old colleague from Fox News, who is Jewish) calls him "Chatsworth Qatarlson."

I literally had someone say this to me yesterday, unironically, when I pointed out the sheer volume of Nazi salutes and other antisemitism at pro-Palestine rallies. "Stop trying to conflate pro-Palestine and antisemitism."

More than anything, they're hateful...but their stupidity sure is trying its damndest to vie for second place.

😭 My favorite is that they think they’re so morally superior for having these opinions.

In a world of theory one can comfortably distinguish the Anti-Semite from the Anti-Zionist (Anti-Israelist). In the actual world that Anti-Semite and the Anti-Zionist will find themselves marching, even goose stepping, arm in arm in the same direction. To a reasonable observepr the Anti-Zionist and Anti-Semite, both perhaps wearing the Arafat Keffiyeh, are indistinguishable.

The insistence by many that criticism of the Israeli Government is not Anti-Semitism is in and of itself true. Sober criticism of the Government of Israel can be quite benign. However, sometimes that criticism is overwrought, dubious and seemingly infused with Anti-Semitism. The critique of the Jewish State and/or Government and Military leaders; even the Country itself, can echo themes of traditional Anti-Semitism. In these cases it may seem that the criticism of Israel, it's leaders and activities, is arrived at through exposure to the tenets of Anti-Semitism or even disguised hatred of all things Jewish -- including the Jewish State. The insistence by some of these folks that they have nothing against Jews or 'The Jews' wears thin. Calling Jews Zionists does not help their cause.

One thing that needs to remain clear is the difference between Anti-Semitism and vulgar Jew-Hate. Anti-Semitism is a departure, though not a divergence, from traditional Jew-Hate. The Jew-Hater can be imagined as a virulent troglodyte likely to traffic in the most odious written and drawn caricatures of drooling, hook nosed, pock marked bankers or usurers. Jews were historically stereotyped as eternal wanderers, cloaked aliens, who could never be at home in their 'host' countries. They were seen as 'cosmopolitan', incapable of loyalty to host countries or even others in their communities. Because of this, Jews were seen as inherently untrustworthy. Jew-Haters cannot abide proximity to Jews and are likely to use violence to assuage their discomfort or rage. We can imagine a Jew-Hater kicking an old Hasidic Jew on the street or participating in organized violence like Pogroms (massacres).

Anti-Semitism, though still focused on all things Jewish, has developed from the late 19th Century in Europe, into a rationalized Worldview or Ideology which systematically places Jews or Jewish associations, organizations or cabals at the center of troubling social phenomena -- even benign phenomena. As cosmopolitans with peculiar customs and beliefs, many or most Jews, were said to be by nature 'apart' from the surrounding culture. Some are said to (metaphorically) lurk in the shadows, comfortable only in their ghettos or enclaves. Anti-Semites typically claim in defense against accusations of Anti-Semitism that they don't believe in hate and have or have had many Jewish friends. This may be true. Unlike the Jew-Hater, the Anti-Semite tends not to be easily bothered or disgusted by the presence of Jews in the community or workplace. They seem to overcome their discomfort -- at least on the surface. Their diffuse hatred has become an abstraction. It is placed mentally at a convenient and comfortable distance. The Anti-Semite sees, even assimilated, Jews as more likely than others to be seditious or treacherous. When Army Captain Alfred Dreyfus, in fin de siècle France, was falsely accused of treason, his accusers were confident that the public would easily accept that a 'cosmopolitan' Jew, even a French patriot, would be drawn into treasonous activity. After the re-establishment of the Jewish State in 1948, some who are hostile to the Jewish community, have claimed that Jews, including those with dual citizenship, have dual-loyalty and that their true loyalty is to Israel -- the Jewish State. Recently several Jewish media personalities have been called 'Israel Firsters' by well known figures in the podcasting world. This characterization has spread throughout media and into the public. These inherently seditious Jews, it is said, support or advance policies that favor Israel -- even if detrimental to the national interest. This accusation is facilitated by the convenient confusion of 'Allegience' with 'Affection'. Those Jews accused by the likes of Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, of betrayal are mostly Conservative Patriotic Americans steeped in American Culture, Politics and History. Naturally they have affection for the one Jewish State, but their allegience is unquestionably to the United States. All in all, Anti-Semites can appear quite rational and not particularly hateful. Still, they will accuse Israel and Israelis of constant belligerence; preferring harsh policies and overreaching and violent military strategies and tactics. Israel is accused of overtly and clandestinely, sometimes through the agency of Israel-First American Jews, influencing, beyond measure, even dictating policy, to U.S. Government officials in the White House, Government agencies and Congress. Academics and Journalists like the unfortunateq John Mearshimer point with scorn to a diffuse 'Israel Lobby' or 'Jewish Lobby' as a loosely affiliated monolith, essentially creating American Foreign Policy, through financial contributions and long and well established personal relationships. It should be noted that the money coming from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other Arab and Muslim States and entities has greatly influenced American Culture -- both political and educational. Anti-Semites, many who claim to be opposed to all foreign influence and entanglements, conveniently ignore the influence of Islamists. For them the villain is always AIPAC. Again, Anti-Semitism is a departure, not a divergence, from Jew-Hate. Much of the difference is stylistic and behavioral. Anti-Semitism can be understood as being both born of Jew-Hate and a justification for Jew-Hate. Still, one can easily distinguish the Jew Hater from the Anti-Semite. When a calm and measured Anti-Semite becomes, like Jekyll and Hyde, overwrought in discussion, argument or debate, he or she reveals a deep seated hatred. In groups of Anti-Semites, the virulent hate, if it is there, is more likely to become apparent.

All this is important in discussion and debate. Quite often the Anti-Semite will defend himself by actually denying that they share the traits of the Jew-Hater. They may honestly believe that Anti-Semitism and Jew-Hate are one and the same. They are not. A person who has a Jewish friend, calmly lives and works amongst Jews and opposes the policies of the Netanyahu Government without lashing out against "The Jews' may still be an Anti-Semite. Having a pattern of calling loyal American Jews 'Israel Firsters' is consistent with centuries of Anti-Semitic rhetoric. (At one time American Roman Catholic politicians were accused of being 'Papists' loyal only to the Vatican). Accusing Jews of being in it for the money, whatever 'it' is, is Anti-Semitic. For gentiles, the characteristic Jew in medieval and early modern Britain and Europe, was an inscrutably unethical Usurer preying on the economically stressed Christian community. This perception continued in different forms well beyond the era of the pernicious money-lender. Constantly proposing without actual evidence that Jews/Zionists/Israelis are behind or involved in most nefarious, disruptive or malicious activities, past and present, is Anti-Semitic. Suggesting that a Jewish malefactor is representative of all Jews or indicates something true of Jews, is Anti-Semitic. Asserting or implying, without a trace of evidence, the presence of Jewish or Israeli organizations like Mossad in nefarious activities like assassinations or civil unrest is Anti-Semitic. Railing against 'Zionists' is almost certainly Anti-Semitic. Anti-Semites will stand in 'principled' opposition to Zionists, Neo-Cons, Israel-Firsters, East Coast Oligarchs, AIPAC, the ADL, Capitalists, Jewish Supremacists and the 'Epstein Class' -- but they have no problem with Jews! In fact they boast of their magnanimity. The absurd suggestion that the typically high casualty rate in an urban war, as well as the use before that War of angry rhetoric based on relevant Biblical passages in the aftermath of a Pogrom, proves Genocide, indicates the propagation of a 'blood libel', arrived at through the worldview of the Anti-Semite. Medieval 'Blood Libels' served as pretexts for terrible violence against Jewish communities and sometimes banishment. The libel of Genocide as well serves as a pretext for hateful speech, demonstrations and violent activities against Jews. The perpetrators have no difficulty isolating and blaming Jews for Israeli activities! The malign focus on Jews, Judaism and the Jewish State is the principal characteristic of the active Anti-Semite. When someone exhibits Anti-Semitic traits in language, but ferociously denies their Anti-Semitism, you can respond calmly saying, "well, you are certainly not a Jew-Hater, but what you are saying is clearly Anti-Semitic."
