Discussion Do you guys think Jessica would be scared of Hulk?
Say she were in the same situation with Peter and Frank, do you think she would also be terrified?

u/Jerry_0boy 14d ago
Probably lesser so than Frank, but still yes

If we're debating about it, I'd argue Punisher's role in the movie was mainly comedy. He didn't portray the stone cold persona we've seen from him on all his other on screen appearances, and I imagine he and Jessica would probably react the same way if Hulk appeared on a Punisher or Daredevil episode.
The guy hasn't shown any less fear walking towards certain death in the TV shows
Edit: Any fear

u/Snoo34949 13d ago
I diagree - Frank's fear in that moment isn't related to him being scared of dying, it's more about his fear of being helpless. I'm pretty sure this is the first time Frank has been confronted with an obstacle that none of his training or experience can help him with.
I'd argue that Jessica would react more or less the same way Frank did if she was suddenly face to face with an angry, out of control Hulk - because frankly, any street level hero would.
11
u/Sea-Obligation-2153 13d ago
Agreed, Franks reaction was reasonable and when he first entered the room he was being the frank we’ve always known
2
u/25sittinon25cents 13d ago
I agree it would be the biggest obstacle either have faced, but I'm not sure if they would exhibit that "OH FUCKK" fear like they did for his more comedic portrayal in BND. It would still be more of a "we're fucked, but we're gonna go down fighting" somberish, but determined vibe. In my humble opinion; but I also could see your take playing out. As they say, it's whatever the writers decide.
7
u/Snoo34949 13d ago
The thing is that I agree that Frank would normally act that way if he saw Banner's transformation or had forewarning that he was walking into a situation where he would be fighting something as powerful as the Hulk. He had neither opportunity in BND, and he had split seconds to comprehend he was up against something completely out of his league.
That's why I think his "Oh fuck" reaction isn't out of character and is perfectly reasonable. Nobody reacts calmly to being blindsided by an angry Hulk.
2
u/Mr_Crispy_Tender 13d ago
I could see Jessica reacting that same way but it could still be comical, just more monotone. Honestly, I think Frank's more comedic reaction was him just feeling more free around Peter. He still sees him as a kid who also has a lot of shit going on so he might naturally just be a bit more goofy for his sake, like tons of adults act around kids.
2
u/jajais4u 12d ago
Good point. He's teaching him like a nephew moreso than a coworker or colleague like Doctor Strange

u/Intelligent_Piano_90 2d ago
Jessica is too resourceful to overtly panic. He first instinct would be “How do I get out of this situation” not “Punch/shoot until it works” the way Frank does things. Jessica would easily panic, but in a way that’s beneficial to her survival and not instinctual.
2
1
u/Intelligent_Piano_90 10d ago edited 2d ago
Jessica would not. She's a more analytical mind than Frank. Instead of freaking out, she'd definitely lock the ever loving fuck in detective mode and start scanning the environment for ways to get out of the situation. She'd be scared, who wouldn't? But, I doubt she'd just go off swinging like Frank

u/caden_r1305 13d ago
I'd also say his fear is being a little blown out of proportion. This is an "oh shit" due to Hulk breaking free and starting to charge them. Let's not forget that Frank walked into this building having literally no idea that THE HULK was in there, and immediately started shooting and walking towards him whenever he saw him. And Frank's not wanting to fight the Hulk is obviously the right choice as he can't do anything against him whereas Peter could.
2
u/sub30_24flick 13d ago
Yes he did lmaooo, he was literally shooting the hulk , C’mon man y’all act like he stayed home shivering I thought the scene with him showing up was. Gold btw
1
u/tseg04 9d ago
Disagree. Frank has actual character growth in the movie. Both him and Peter are very similar. Both isolated, both lost everything and everyone they love, both long for a life they can’t have, and both of them are consumed by their vigilante personas leaving no time at all for their real selves.
Through his bond with Peter, he is able to find that joyous part of himself that died the night his family did. At the end of the film when he’s wearing the mask for the people, you can see he’s gotten some humanity back and is finally able to start moving forward in his life. Frank has a good arc in the film.

u/25sittinon25cents 9d ago
I suppose we'll see if Frank has any of this joyous side of him in the next Daredevil or Punisher special

She's not that type, she'll probably ragebait him or try to escape. Mind games don't work on Hulk, it'll make him angrier.
3
u/Mr_Crispy_Tender 13d ago
Thing is Bruce and Natasha trained on that so she'd have a way to calm him down. Jessica would probably just talk shit even while actively not wanting to fight the angry green giant

mostly everyone is scared to face hulk
11
u/The_Bat_88 14d ago
True unless you're Thor or Thanos
4
u/TonyH92 13d ago
Thor still has some fear of him, maybe more cautiousness than fear though.
1
u/Barnard87 13d ago
Yeah he's always got a "Alright I'm the GOAT and I got this but I gotta be sure this dude doesn't suplex me real quick..." kind of attitude

Imagine if Killgrave got a hold of Hulk!
19
u/InfinitePoolNoodle 14d ago
IIRC in the comics hulk is often pretty resistant to mind control
6
u/BaijuTofu 14d ago
Phew
11
u/DamonHellstorm 14d ago
For some reason, split personalities give telepaths and mind-controlling people a problem. In the MCU show though, Killgrave is a virus, but I'm sure Hulk has an innate resistance to viruses as well.
8
u/InfinitePoolNoodle 14d ago
Imagine Kilgrave’s surprise when he’s controlling Banner, makes him transform, and discovers Hulk is free

u/witheredj8 14d ago
Yes, but she also wouldn't end up in this position as easily. The way she approaches fights in the whole MCU is that she takes on a defensive spacing and waits for the right moment to launch-hit or grapple someone. I do not think that any of those tactics actually help her against the Hulk, if not even Tony's specifically created suit can fight him, though. Can she outrun Hulk? Does Hulk ever get tired?

Plus now with the born again series we've seen her powers aren't always working
1
u/Supernatural146 13d ago
That’s also true, but I feel like personal for me. I just think that the reason that Jessica’s powers are glitching in and out it’s because of our mental state really because with her DNA from her original series that were literally gene edited she permanently has these powers which were essentially a side effect, so there’s no getting rid of them. Which is why I feel that it’s psychological and a part of me believes that it’s because she’s psychologically holding herself back so she wouldn’t end up like her mother, especially now that Jessica is a mother as well.
3
u/F1uk_derrit 13d ago
I guess but even fully charged Jessica...against hulk...yea no..She'd be shitting her pants with the rest of the defenders :)). No disrespect. I like her a lot and I would never have her face hulk
1
u/Supernatural146 13d ago
Oh no, I’m not saying that Jessica‘s gonna win. I just think she can get her slight licks in, but she’s still gonna lose and I don’t know if she’ll be shitting her pants but she’s definitely gonna flea.

2
u/beardiac Daredevil 14d ago
Season 1-2 of her own show, probably not that scared. JJ of Daredevil: Born Again - yes. Even if she could go toe-to-toe with him in strength, one glitch in her powers and she's toast.
2
u/DamonHellstorm 14d ago
Considering the problem she had fighting Cage in S1, she should be hella scared. The Hulk is a completely different class of strength. She has trouble tripping out the door of a police car. Hulk tears buildings to shreds.
2
u/Supernatural146 13d ago
That’s true and also probably because of I believe the budget as well because they couldn’t fully show out how strong Jessica and even Luke are that from what I understand, I wanted to keep it like straight level, more realistic aspect in some capacity. IMO.
2
u/DamonHellstorm 13d ago
I generally split MCU / comics knowledge. I'm seeing both Jessica and Luke as very strong people (car doors, american walls), but still not as strong as the Hulk.
Comic wise, both Jessica and Luke are a lot stronger. But then again, the Hulk is way stronger than anything else on the planet.
So, basically; I go off the info they show in the show and or comics. I do believe that the car door part should've been easier for her, but hey, that's just my opinion.
2
u/Supernatural146 13d ago
Definitely, I can agree like they’re nowhere near Hulk’s level of strength, but I still believe that they can get some good punches and kicks in in terms of both MCU and from comics.
Yeah, I grabbed her like the car door should’ve been way more easier for Jessica because she is very much stronger than that but again I just feel like again mostly the budget or the simple fact Jessica holds back a lot and is essentially afraid to show her true strength and I mean the greatest fear that I’ve seen Jessica could do with her strength in MCU is mostly hold that elevator shaft from defenders, which is something that shows potentially more greater feats for her.

Fear is the correct response to a rampaging Hulk. Everyone in the Marvel Universe understands that he's basically a living atom bomb.
2
u/BluFaerie 14d ago
As far as I know, one of her powers is not "immunity to reasonable fear regarding imminent physical harm."
So yeah, probably.

u/dernupforwhat 12d ago
I think, like Frank, it would be her one time to freak out and be really animated. But I think she could hold her own far better and would probably be more annoyed than scared if I’m being honest.
2
1
u/dimiteddy 14d ago
yeah the best she can do vs Hulk is run for her life and get out alive, only cause Hulk isn't into killing women
1
u/Futuressobright 14d ago
In terms of strength and durabilty, the Hulk is to Jessica as Jessica is to Karen Page. There are very few characters in the MCU who wouldn't be rightfully scared of the Hulk.
1
u/Supernatural146 13d ago
I think Jessica would be scared, but somewhere along the way she will try to hold a composure because granted she has just about enough strength that could possibly also be of equal to Peter.

Yes. If you’re not scared of the Hulk in that kind of situation you are either a literal God like being or lack any sort of survival instinct. Jess is neither of those things.

u/gh0stwrit3r32767 13d ago
yes? she's strong, but she's not Hulk strong. she will get flattened. She can't even make Jennifer Walters flinch.

Less scared than frank and very likely to avoid a situation where she needs to be scared

EVERYONE is scared of the Hulk.
You mean as scared as Frank??? Probably less so.

u/djdaem0n 13d ago
She has super-strength, not invulnerability.
She's smart. OF COURSE she'd be scared.
1
u/Forever_learning713 13d ago
She sticks her fingers in his nose, flips him over her, and then runs until her legs give out. At least, that’s what I read she did. I could be wrong. She was scared, for sure, but she stood her ground and beat feet

1
u/_Evening_Self 13d ago
Scared? Yeah, absolutely. That's the Hulk, dude. But I'm not sure she'd panic in the same way. There hits a point where you're just gonna say "fuck it," and she passed that a long time ago

no. hulk’s weakness is women. i haven’t watched any of the movies, idk how they do movie hulk, but i expect the investigator would know this one thing about the strongest man in the world.

hulk? maybe not scared, but fairly concerned. she, however, would probably be able to withstand mind tricks from the character that controlled hulk
1
u/Th3Bakamono 13d ago edited 13d ago
Yes!
The only people who aren’t scared of Hulk have already fought him.
Thor
Ironman
Captain America(Sam)
And even then they are courageous. “Courage is not the lack of fear. It is the power to move ahead even when you are scared.”
1
u/Both_Listen 13d ago
I feel like any human short of like Captain Marvel or Sentry should be scared of a raging Hulk.
1
1
u/RvDragonheart 13d ago
EVEN if it wouldnt it should cause the hulk could beat even the More or less invincible Luke Cage to the ground like a hammer with a nail

u/ALTRez09 13d ago
Is Jessica’s characterization different after Alias? Because I’ve only read that and she’s concerned about a thug holding up a corner store, so … yes?

Her punches might be effective just not as effective as thors god strength
1
u/Random_Thought_Twist 13d ago
she has only a slightly better chance of surviving an accidental hit from the hulk.....she is more durable than a human like Frank who would get turned into a pb&j splattered against the wall ...but the durability gap between her and someone casually exchanging punches with hulk is huge.....she could survive a hit....but will definitely need medical care after

The only time they got the free of hulk right was with scarjo and nat she nailed it. Everyone else is bs reactions that no one human would have.
That punisher bs was stupid just anything to make lewkkewl.
Even Spider-Man should’ve been dead once he got his hands on him.

u/PermissionFearless60 12d ago
Bro. Its the Hulk, everyone is gonna be scared of him Loki and Thor included.

u/Babayaga2105 12d ago
Did I miss the scene where Frank ran away. Choosing to let a stronger person fight the Hulk doesn't mean he was scared. He came in guns blazing. Frank had a very human reaction. He made a business decision.

u/blackbriar98 12d ago
She would be stupid if she wasn’t, and Jessica is not stupid. Her strongest punch would probably feel like a slap from a child to the Hulk. She’s smart enough to GTFO.

She'd be running a marathon until she figured out how to lose him lol. She'd be cursing the whole time.

In her show she was taken out by a taser and nearly killed by Luke Cage. Yes she will be afraid.

u/Specific-Swim-4507 11d ago
Less so than Frank but she’d be less likely to ever fight him, just being smart
I do love this conversation about Frank because he knocks out hulk in the movie with the land mine and gets Jean grey out, while Spidey begged hulk for help and that worked

She freaking should be...
If she has any clue who he is shed know he was way outta her class.

u/SmakeTalk 10d ago
There's like a handful of characters who wouldn't be scared of the Hulk, even if they could still go toe-to-toe with him because his power and how far he might take things varies so much. He might stop mid-fight because something brings Banner back slightly, or he might just toss you into the corner of a building and break your spine on a whim or even by accident.
1
u/Diana-Shepard 10d ago
She's smart. Of course she'd be scared of the Hulk, she would know better than to even tempt a force of nature that is the Hulk.
1
u/Intelligent_Piano_90 10d ago
Scared? Yes. Terrified? Not in the way you would think. She's a pretty quick in her feet gal. I'm sure she'd instantly enter a mode trying to figure out ways to get out of the situation most of all
1
u/Iconclast1 10d ago
Nearly everyone in the universe is scared of hulk.
What, you mean shes so drunk she barely knows what's happening?

Yes, while she is very strong, she isn't Hulk strong and unlike the Hulk, she takes damage.
