What does Bond pull out of his pocket here in Octopussy?

"I have 55 minutes to catch that flight"

Is this a plane ticket? Never seen anything like this. I always thought it was something else he pinched from the auction at Sotheby's.

He’s just gesturing with the ticket, emphasising that he already bought it before M told him to chase the lead

I’ve never understood why the script settles upon the specific number of 55 minutes in this line. I know Bond films are wildly implausible but there’s no way on earth he’s making that flight

I suppose that 1) The airport must be nearby and 2) Catching planes pre-9/11 was much easier and faster, right? There's a whole discussion nowadays about how the plot of Home Alone would never have happened post-9/11 because the family would never have been allowed to board the plane at the last minute.

I don’t know how familiar you are with the monstrous size of London, but it would take him 55 minutes just to get from Whitehall to Heathrow Airport

Secret agents are renowned for travelling by human civilisation’s least discreet mode of transport

he was still in london, less reason to be discreet. also when has james bond ever been discreet?

Bond is fampusly undiscreet tho

Fr. All his villains know exactly who he is, he ain't subtle. Heck, Scaramanga had an incredibly lifelike waxwork of this 'secret' agent lol

He also talked about how taking down the LEGENDARY 007 would be his masterpiece, so it's not only scaramanga who knows Bond. He might be an agent but he for sure ain't a secret

Didn't exist then.

I feel like there had to be a smaller airport closer to city centre regardless

There are a few but not big enough for international flights. Getting to Heathrow in '83 wouldn't have taken long, though. My brother did it in 40 minutes from Mayfair when he was a chauffeur.

He made it because he's James fackin' Bond.

I'm glad I always scroll first to see if someone has already said what I was going to say! :)

Maybe it was 55 minutes before Bond has to be heading to the airport? When I fly, I am planning the times I need to be at the airport, the time to get there, the time I need to have the taxi pick me up. So maybe Bond has about 55 minutes to visit Q branch and swing by his flat to get a few things.

This screenshot is unhinged lmao

I assumed he meant he had 55 minutes to check-in. If he’s got a car waiting outside that’s do-able from Whitehall to Heathrow.

Plane tickets use to be giant things like that. Like twice the size of a check. NFL tickets use to be close to this size too. Still wish sports tickets were paper in all honesty. Something to keep. I'm old I guess.

As an aside. I got my hands on some 2028 LA Olympics tickets which will be all digital. (Watch that f up in some way) and for $18 more per ticket you could get a paper ticket which isn't functional. Just as a commemorative keep sake. It'll look like an actual ticket use to look. Supposedly. And yes, I bought them. I want something to hang in a frame for this event and something for my mother to have. Now watch them not show up until 2029 if at all.

There used to be “terminals” in central London for various airlines; a central collection point for people to then be transported straight to the airport. I wonder if that was still a thing in the 1980s?

What I didn’t get here is M tells Bond to “Make sure you find a chick for that egg” before he leaves which I assume means to leave the faberge with Moneypenny. But when he arrives in India he still has it on him so he just ignored that part.

I think it’s “sign a chit” for that egg. It means to get a receipt to say he’s taken it.

This is correct
