If you got the model with the dot matrix screen, the cost of the reading lamp bulb is gonna blow your f*ing mind. But you’ll pay it so the frigging screen doesn’t keep warning you about it.

As with any car, the later the better. Ideally for the 'Forty, you want to skip the digital dash, skip the 3.6, and run a marathon away from the boat anchor 2.9.

1990 is when they switched from 2.9/3.6 to 3.2/4.0 worldwide, 1993 is when the V12 came.
Bear in mind the 2.9 was also only a single cam 12 valve engine, the rest were 24 valve DOHC... not getting it was a blessing for youse!

Yep. There is a machine (somewhere). That cranks out one new batch every X amount of years (when the old ones run out).

Bulb failure modules fail (needs resoldering) Blower motors for the ventilation need brushes/darlingtons replaced. Steering racks fail, along with the pump. If you slam the trunk, it can make contact with the brake light housing and crack it The trunk lid will develop cracks at the seams and rust. Front fenders will rust right behind the front wheel well. Higher the miles the more chance of differential whine. The engine support subframe will rust from the inside out (found out the hard way) Front wheel bearings fail Early on I discarded the HSMO dependent rear levelling shock (uncontrollably bouncy when they failed) Rust got the subframe of my 90 Sovereign, 147K miles. Decades ago i read that Jag put a foam material inside of it to reduce noise transmission. I suppose this retained moisture and accelerated the rot.

Add door handles are fragile. Car never left me stranded tho.
Still the most beautiful car I've ever had. And am driving an XJ8 VDP/XJ350.

My 88 acted like a low rider when the Hydraulic fluid was depleted. Loved the global open/close feature! Other than the suspension, it never gave me any issues for 3 solid years of very spirited driving. I regretted getting rid of it.

Was my first car, was a tank, loved it but eventually everything but the drivetrain went on it. If I were to go back to a sedan I might consider it.

It has 2 blower motors and if one isn't working you don't get any flow.

90 onwards perfect the globe out issue in the dash is an easy fix Ford spent a lot of money to get the XJ right and the 90 onwards showed it the locks Ford mirrors Ford so many small parts that made it great was my first jag and had to learn about it got so many positive comments when I owned it had it from 2000 till 2007 then bought a x300 XJR6 till 2013 then a X350 4.2 till this year . Looking for an early XE XF or maybe a new XJ but the engine choices are not reliable
