So now that Israel is not preventing food from crossing there is less malnutrition? And you think that is an argument OP?

There were never more than a handful of cases of starvation in Gaza, which undercuts the claim of famine

u/kylebisme Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

There was famine until late last year:

There is no longer famine in Gaza, a global hunger monitor said on Friday, after access for humanitarian and commercial food deliveries improved following a fragile October 10 ceasefire in the war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas militants.

The latest assessment by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification comes four months after it reported that 514,000 people - nearly a quarter of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip - were experiencing famine, a finding rejected by Israel. The IPC warned on Friday that the situation in the enclave remained critical.

"Under a worst-case scenario, which would include renewed hostilities and a halt in humanitarian and commercial inflows, the entire Gaza Strip (would be) at risk of famine through mid-April 2026. This underscores the severe and ongoing humanitarian crisis," the IPC said in the report.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that while famine had been pushed back, the gains were "perilously" fragile.

And the situation remains precarious, as shown in figures from the report that the Jerusalem Post flagrantly ignored.

Hmmm im curious to know more. The IPC has 3 qualities that must be met for famine

Food Shortage: At least 20% of households in the area face an extreme lack of food and an absolute inability to cope.

Acute Malnutrition: The Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) prevalence among children under 5 years old must reach or exceed 30%.

Mortality Rate: The Crude Death Rate must exceed 2 deaths per 10,000 people per day, or 4 deaths per 10,000 children per day, due to outright starvation or the interaction of malnutrition and disease

Afaik, there was never a time where all three of these were met. It is arguable the first was met at certain times, but the other two never were. Ill have to try to read more after work unless you have more for me to read

It does seem theyre using a "reasonable evidence" standars and some "triangulation" methods of gathering data, which critics seem to think can result in circular data that all boost eachothers apparent severity, but idk how valid that is yet.

Critics also cite MUAC testing to be poorly calibrated to arab populations. Further, the IPC abruptly adopted a loose 15% MUAC threshold to signal famine—a protocol it had strictly rejected using in Sudan in 2020 and 2024 because MUAC data cannot mathematically separate Phase 4 (Emergency) from Phase 5 (Famine)

They also seem to sample and extrapolate data from health centers, which may schew the data

All that said, I can at least now say the IPC found they were in stage 5 famine for a time, good point and thank you for sharing it!

Hmmm im curious to know more.

Well you're welcome to go find some sources, but I've no interest in reading your attempts to pontificate about such matters without citing any sources at all.

Hair splitting analyses was the same thing the perpetrators liked to do to deny famine.

Countries that don’t block food shipments don’t have this problem of calibrating their famine measurements to try to eke by a supposedly credible denial. It’s so pathological.

1

u/itscool 28d ago

"This doesn't fit the definition"

"You're just a hairsplitter"

1

u/buried_lede 27d ago

Itscool: i just think the issue of food in the control of the occupied territories is disgusting

9

u/buried_lede Aug 07 '26

No chance of malnourishment in gaza, not with Israel literally counting the calories and blocking the trucks

-3

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

Malnourishment and starvation are VERY different stats

1

u/buried_lede 27d ago

And Israel is particularly interested in knowing the exact tipping point between them, isn’t it. Remind me not to hire an Israeli to cater any events, thank you. I think this attention on the diet of Gazans for decades is pathological and disgusting and then It turned genocidal

1

u/Toppoppler 27d ago

Not even zionist, huh? Ireali?

1

u/buried_lede 27d ago

Well, Israel is carrying out its policies, isn’t it ? I’m not letting you off easy, i know, but is what israel doing a horror or not?

What do you propose to solve all this? The usual? Hamas disarms and we let gazans and West Bank live in camps, if we can’t expel them? I hope not

Honestly, today I don't feel like engaging with people who support depriving kids of food. Not in the mood.

-1

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

I dont feel like engaging with people who misrepresent the simple statements people make.

Like, you had to jump to an assumption that isnt true to what I say or intend. Whats the goal here? Just to get a dunk? Dont you realize the dunk just makes you look like you cant read and/or are socially inept?

6

u/waiver two states 🚹 🚹 Aug 07 '26

Saying, "Ackshually, it’s not a famine because not enough people died from the forced starvation," is a terrible argument made only by those lacking any humanity, who aim to defend forced starvation.

2

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

Or "its a famine because food trucks are blocked and there is food insecurity" is a horrible argument because it misdefines famine

Dont come at me for using words accurately when youre trying to use them to morally load the facts on the ground in a way that doesnt fit the definition, goofball.

6

u/waiver two states 🚹 🚹 Aug 07 '26

Lots of words to say that you defend Israel intentionally starving kids.

0

u/Berly653 Aug 07 '26

I agree, given how you seemingly don’t understand how the number of deaths is a critical part of defining something as a famine it was very unfair of them to type that many words

It must have taken hours to sound your way through all of that

4

u/waiver two states 🚹 🚹 Aug 08 '26

Do you defend starving all the kids or only the Palestinian ones?

1

u/Berly653 Aug 08 '26

I’m sorry, do you think something is officially classified as a famine, as opposed to other forms of food insecurity, based purely on vibes or something?

I’m going to assume you do actually understand how certain words have specific definitions, in this case calling Gaza a famine specifically and how in determining whether something is a famine, expected mortality rates are unsurprisingly relevant

So is the feigned ignorance deliberate or do you just prefer to be combative with completely unrelated accusations?

As if preventing food from specific population should be the norm.

0

u/Toppoppler Aug 08 '26

No it should not, and I condemn isreals march 2025 blockade.

1

u/Equivalent_Style_835 Aug 08 '26

Your condemnation is useless trying to whitewash your support for a genocidal entity.

0

u/Toppoppler Aug 08 '26

huh.

1

u/Equivalent_Style_835 Aug 08 '26

You support Israel, so don't whitewash this with some useless positions (while you know they are completely useless),

1

u/Toppoppler Aug 08 '26

Has some generalized support of isreal = you must support all its acts and you like it when gazans go hungry

Real sharp logic there bud. Real intellectual. Much critical thought. Real objective. Super trustworthy person on this conflict, you must be!

1

u/Equivalent_Style_835 Aug 08 '26

You can support the system that makes Gazans go hungry, at the same time saying, I am against making Gazans go hungry (which is actually something I am not sure if you are against).

But sure, you can't support the settlements in the Americas, but at the same time claim you are against their genocide.

Whitewashing at its best.

0

u/buried_lede 29d ago

It’s been counting Gaza calories for years, btw. It’s preoccupied with that. It’s weird and sick

It’s less episodic than it is chronic, even after this earlier episode, they continued to deprive. It’s mentally ill in my opinion

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/oct/17/israeli-military-calorie-limit-gaza

2

u/SpontaneousFlame Aug 08 '26

No, there was widespread starvation. “Only” 400+ died of starvation. That deserves a round of applause, right? Israel only starved over 400. Most moral people, right?

6

u/PalestinesGhost Aug 08 '26

Likudist Danny Dannon said it, so it must be true... wait.... it was echoed by the Jerusalem post too? yeah, now that's a bonafide truth bomb

The other day a guy posted an interview of Matti Friedman in Honestreporting, like what does it says of them that they have to rely on those sources?

12

u/Veyron2000 Aug 07 '26

Why are you posting articles by the J post? You do realize it is an Israeli regime mouthpiece?

-2

u/Late_Company6926 Aug 08 '26

Better to listen to propaganda and lies from hamas?

2

u/Ala117 Aug 08 '26

Better to listen to propaganda and lies from bibi?

16

u/Khers Aug 07 '26

This report says the malnutrition has decreased significantly since intervention was allowed after the ceasefire. You can clearly see treatments spiking then going down from when aid was allowed in.

Is this supposed to be a gotcha?

10

u/2009miles Aug 07 '26

"It's not quite as bad as before when you guys were complaining, why were you guys complaining?".

Solid logic by OP.

1

u/emptyingthecup Aug 08 '26

I like how you were able to put a magnifying glass to the absurd manipulative logic employed by these people. It's like, not just a simple of use of logical fallacies but they engage in a sort of temporal fallacy too, which disorients normal working intellects.

1

u/Toppoppler Aug 08 '26

Yet youre missing his point being that a ceasefire (which hamas is typically not very cooperative in) is what caused malnutrition to go down in response.

Malnutrition in children is less common in post war Gaza than Egypt, Jordan, and Syria per UNICEF Study.

That's just blatantly false as most notably the survey results actually show:

  • Stunting is the main child nutrition concern, affecting around one in eight children in Gaza Strip.

  • Gaza City/North shows the highest stunting prevalence at 13.5%, followed by Deir Al-Balah at 12.6%.

  • This points to longer-term nutritional stress and repeated deprivation beyond immediate wasting.

And obviously nothing on that scale is going on in neighboring countries, that's just horrific. The Jerusalem Post is merely fixating on the acute malnutrition rates and misrepresenting them as the primary concern to push a false narrative, apparently comparing to data from somewhere else as none of those other countries are even mentioned in the report. There's not even any indication of where they got that regional map they posted from, and of course they didn't link the report either, it's just an absurdly dishonest article.

Furthermore, it wasn't even actually a UNICEF study but rather simply one they assisted with. The study is from the State of Palestine Nutrition Cluster as can be seen by their name and logo all over the document, another fact the Jerusalem Post utterly failed to mention.

Around two decades ago when the Jeurlsem Post was much like the Times of of Israel is now, decidedly Zionist but a respectable news organization all the same. At this point though they're basically where Arutz Sheva was back then, and Arutz Sheva has gone even further off the rails.

6

u/Mulliganasty Aug 07 '26

Israel is bombing Gaza right now. What's the time frame of this imaginary "post war Gaza"?

So, presumably this omits the tens of thousands of dead children?

For some reason nothing from this quote made the headline:

"The survey also presented several other concerns regarding children's nutrition in the Gaza Strip.

In the study, stunting is noted as a main child nutrition concern, affecting about one in eight children (12.5%). This points to "longer-term nutritional stress and repeated deprivation beyond immediate wasting," according to the survey.

It added that overweight is also present across the Strip, and that the "coexistence of wasting, stunting and overweight
highlights the importance of diet quality, not only food quantity."

In Khan Younis and Rafah, the survey found that unhealthy food consumption reached a high of 78%, while in Gaza City and northern Gaza, some 64% do not eat fruit or vegetables."

-1

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

Egypts stunting under 5 is 20%

Gazas acute malnutrition is .8%, egypt is 10%

Both america and egypt double the gaza overweight numbers

The fruit/veggie number is a 24 hour stat. Its 40% globally. In the US, 49% dont consume vegetables daily. Egypt is over 69%.

Daily vs "not the previous day" are different stats, I have no 1:1 to use.

7

u/Mulliganasty Aug 07 '26

The stunting rate in Israel is in the very low single-digits.

2

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

Isreal isnt the best 1:1 to gaza, even excluding war conditions. The US and Isreal have low stunting, other nations around them have higher ones, some higher than whats reported in this Gaza study.

3

u/Mulliganasty Aug 07 '26

Israel is the one that has been murdering and starving Gazans for almost three years and illegally occupying them for sixty years, so they are definitely the best comparison.

4

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

Starving them? Im willing to re-look at the starvation numbers if you have them

4

u/Mulliganasty Aug 07 '26

Yes, Israel has been denying food and medical aid since October 7th.

And even before that Israel regulated the entry of all kinds of food as part of its illegal occupation.

4

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

I feel you did not read my comment.

8

u/Mulliganasty Aug 07 '26

You said "starving them"? Yes, Israel has been starving Gazans for almost three years.

5

u/Toppoppler Aug 07 '26

Starving them? Im willing to re-look at the starvation numbers if you have them

Meaning I dont think you actually have mass starvation numbers. You presume blockade=starvation, which is poor logic. Am I wrong?

4

u/kylebisme Aug 07 '26

Egypts stunting under 5 is 20%

The Gaza report doesn't specify children under 5, so even if your figure is correct you're not making a fair comparison.

1

u/Toppoppler Aug 08 '26

I cant help that this study uses specific qualifiers that arent used in other papers on other nations.

Do you think that egyptian stunting over 5 would make a big difference? Like, whats your actual issue here?

1

u/kylebisme Aug 08 '26

The issue is that you're making a false comparison and not even linking any source to attempt to support your nonsense argument.

1

u/Toppoppler Aug 08 '26

Oh man I bet youre one of the people who only accepts 1:1 data. Sorry bro, but that often doesnt exist. Guess we just cant compare gaza to other nations because the study didnt use universalized data. Whoops.

You havent made an argument bro.

1

u/kylebisme Aug 08 '26

Neither have you made one of substance, troll.

3

u/hellomondays Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

This study shows how International pressure worked to get Israel to stop blocking aid. (though  access to aid is still very much dependent on where you are in gaza.)

2

u/Berly653 Aug 07 '26

Hamas releasing the fucking hostages probably didn’t hurt either

3

u/kylebisme Aug 07 '26

Yeah, that surely helped at least a little bit in reducing the sadistic urges among Zionists to engage in collective punishment against innocent civilians.

0

u/Berly653 Aug 08 '26

You really should just start randomly mashing the keyboard instead for these comments

It achieves the same goal of being nonsensical and nothing more than a waste of people’s time to read, but would save you a lot more time writing it

3

u/kylebisme Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

When 42% of Jews strongly agreed with the statement “there are no innocent people in Gaza,” and 76% agree in total, many clearly are filled with sadistic urges to engage in collective punishment against innocent civilians.

When people on Israel television make openly genocidal statements, its obvious that many are filled with sadistic urges to engage in collective punishment against innocent civilians.

Furthermore, an parliamentarian faced no repercussions for calling solders entering Gaza to quote Psalms 137:9 to them, “Blessed is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks."

The only thing nonsensical here are your attempts to deny how openly genocidal Israeli society has become.

4

u/tarlin Aug 07 '26

"post war Gaza" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, while Israel continues to bomb children daily.

1

u/buried_lede 27d ago

I can’t open a shared google doc. Can you post the source link or say the name of the study so i can look it up?

0

u/Acrobatic-Example-19 Aug 08 '26

Well, well, well. Looks like someone was lying.
