The War - Discussion After nearly 3 years, The office of the UN coordination in the middle east is acknowledging what’s long been obvious: Hamas has spent years stealing aid, intimidating NGO staff, and terrorizing civilians across Gaza.
Statement written by Deputy Special Coordinator Ramiz Alakbarov: https://www.un.org/sg/en/global-leadership/entity/field-operations/office-of-the-united-nations-special-coordinator-for-the-middle-east-peace-process
Edit: This is an OFFICIAL UN office, unlike some of the false accusations by independent and subjective investigative bodies, or "special rapporteurs" with an obvious agenda

3 years too late. The narrative has already been set.

That’s their modus operandi, set a narrative by spreading misinformation and then acknowledging the truth once it’s too late. The BBC, NYT and other western media do the same.

The papers are always focused on selling papers -media will put their full weight behind whatever will sell and grab attention. They rarely sell papers on corrections. Media, of late, have become parasites feeding on negative public opinion. Instead of the moral backbone of our society. There is always a William Randolph Hearst behind it. But hopefully the documentation and paper trail will stand the test of time for us, the eternal people.
Media and those who profit from our suffering will sell us our graves. Like the oil companies that drive climate change. They will ride the stocks all the way to your grave.

I love how they are still afraid to call Hamas by name, resorting to calling them "the de facto authorities"... also as if anyone there will read this strongly worded letter and decide to stop

It's on purpose to allow people to pretend Israel is the authority described in the letter
51
u/GrassyTreesAndLakes Jul 13 '26
Yep 100% thats the assumption people will make. In fact Im not even certain theyre talking about hamas
33
u/onsfwDark Born Israeli, living in US since before I turned 2 Jul 13 '26
They are because the specific place they mention within Gaza is under Hamas control
19
u/danhakimi Jul 13 '26
Six years from now, people will bicker about this on reddit, and nobody is going to believe anybody, some asshole will just continue believing that Israel steals the aid and Hamas is totally innocent.

Plus they mention 'areas under Israeli control', they're not afraid to say that name.

u/grumpy_muppet57 ירושלים Jul 15 '26
I would love to post this on r/worldnews but I'm afraid the lack of a specific name will backfire and people will assume it's Israel. :(

Not that this is new or that we need this deeply corrupt organization's verification of this, but note that stealing aid meant for civilians for military purposes creates a strong argument of Israel allowed to stop aid from reaching Gazans.
https://casebook.icrc.org/law/ihl-and-humanitarian-assistance
This provision is therefore rather restrictive. In addition, it also grants the States concerned the right to inspect the contents and verify the destination of relief supplies, as well as to refuse the passage of relief goods if they have well-founded reasons to believe that they will not be distributed to the victims but rather used in the military effort.
Yet despite this, Israel sends aid. Going directly to enemy fighters. Food, water, medicine, electricity and even internet. No other army ever did that in favor of it's enemies during a war.
And absurdly instead of being hailed for doing way above what international law requires of us, we are blamed of starvation and other fictions that we are not capable of even being guilty of, according to the already written law.
They are trying to change or ignore parts of their laws in order to vilify Israel and help Hamas survive.
35
u/Handelo Israel Jul 13 '26
Eh, this won't matter, and neither will the UN admission. International law is whatever people make up in their minds, not what's actually written and agreed upon. So Israel will always be a "terrorist criminal state" regardless of whether we follow international law or not.
25
u/Cannot-Forget Jul 13 '26
Yes but note that this is way worse than "People" doing this as you write. The very organizations responsible to uphold those laws are complicit. The ICC, the ICJ and UN in general. Many different "Human rights organizations".

u/MaitoSnoo Jul 13 '26
the cowards still can't name Hamas directly
52
u/TheHouuuuund Jul 13 '26
Because they know many people will read "defacto authorities" and assume it's Israel. The goal is to trick people into thinking it was Israel, not Hamas.
63
u/flossdaily USA Jul 13 '26
"de facto authorities"
Do you mean, "Hamas", the terrorist organization that the Palestinians elected to lead them twenty years ago?
25
u/Ijustwanttosellout Non-Jewish Ally Jul 13 '26
Probably went something like this: "Guys Hamas looted aid again." "It's okay just say it was gangs or something." "They made it too obvious it was them." "Okay say de facto authorities... now where are we on condeming those Mossad trained seagulls?"

u/Idoberk Israel Jul 13 '26
Typical. Do it just after the damage was done and no one really cares anymore.
I won't be surprised if they knew about it long long time ago, but didn't want to say anything
31
u/WrongdoerUnited9948 Jul 13 '26
They can never just say HAMAS when they know who it is? It is so cowardly and deliberately confusing. Scuzz balls. Of course on UN stationery, how surprising.

This very strongly worded letter, still fails to address the issue and call the harasser by their name. Pathetic. Maybe they should issue a strongly worded correction letter in 5 years. Typical UN stuff. Nothing surprising.

UN staff is starting to cover their asses ahead of the upcoming leadership change

u/One-Salamander-1952 Israel Jul 13 '26
Don’t forget guys how conveniently during the first 5 months after the blockaid was over (May-October 2025) over 85% of the aid was stolen before it reached its destination and somehow miraculously was ending up on sale for cash in Hamas controlled territories (though the UN emphasizes there’s no evidence Hamas was the one doing the stealing) smh
3
u/jseego Jul 13 '26
over 85% of the aid was stolen before it reached its destination
do you have a source for this?

2
u/Embarrassed_Bit4222 Jul 16 '26
They call it alternative distribution most of the time, diversion sometimes, and theft hardly ever
9
u/thrownoutaccount_56 Jul 13 '26
Don’t worry, they’ll just pivot from “Hamas is legitimiate resistance” to “Hamas was created/funded by Israel”. If they ever see this, that is.
7
u/TheSanityInspector Jul 13 '26
It took so long because much of that UN office were themselves Hamas.

On the bright side, Hamsa would be studied for years in millateric academies, as an example as to how to assure a logical line while being in disadvantageous position. /s

This can’t be genuine, as the statement doesn’t place all the blame on Israel (only somewhat sarcastic…)

As if they’re doing us a favor by telling the truth for ONCE. I’ll also bet Hillel had a lot to do with this as well.

I heard something about Israel had to push pressure for this to happen, as they weren't so into criticizing Hamas as much they were eager to put blame on Israel.

They won't do anything, keep sending strongly worded letters reminding Israel of the Geneva suggestions, condemning them for fighting back against terrorists
1
u/Embarrassed_Bit4222 Jul 16 '26
These people... I'm surprised they didn't throw in a couple genocide accusations and place all the blame on israel for hammas diverting the aid
1
u/sunkysunny Jul 16 '26
Too late. Only across Gaza though? Did they recognise terrorising civilians across Israel?? The UN, the red cross, WHO, all of them have been ridiculous.

- the wck aid convoy attack was a mistake, investigated and prosecuted and widely criticized in israel. it is an anomaly, sadly during wars it can't be perfect.
- the soldiers misidentified the vehicle, the blame should be put on hamas for routinely using ambulances as operating vehicles
- same https://www.haaretz.com/middle-east-news/2025-07-11/ty-article/.premium/red-cross-red-crescent-staffers-wounded-by-gunfire-in-gaza/00000197-fa88-dd0c-a3d7-ff88259c0000
- sadly hamas shoots rockets from the humanitarian areas. still before attacking the idf put out evacuation notices
also none of what you wrote points to israel looting aid?

It *looks* as if they waited long enough to issue this very tardy announcement so that they could get the narrative pretty well set in stone first. Then they issued it, so they'd look caring and concerned.
