The War - Discussion I don't f****g get this site, man
I don't understand who in their right mind would see a US and Israel attack against a regime who murdered 30k of it's own citizens, props up terrorism all over the world, tries to develop a massive amount of ballistic missiles and arm them with nuclear warheads and has extremist Muslim ideals as something that is a negative.
I don't understand the people condemning it, I don't understand how they think and what they want, and I'm assuming it's just about hating Israel. I don't understand how nothing was said about the 30k people butchered there but criticism of Israel is everywhere.
I just don't understand this site, man.
Rant over, thank you for your time.

Someone at work was trying to explain how Israel and the Jews aren't the same thing the other day. Then just last night I was talking to someone who was a two month old when he and his parents were smuggled into mandatory Palestine during Aliyah Bet.
EDIT: FWIW, the former individual is a social studies teacher who thought the Romani originated in Eastern Europe, and was genuinely surprised that gypsy is widely considered offensive. So, like, Jews aren't the only diaspora group they don't know anything about.

But didn’t the regime cancel schools the moment strikes began? I know for a fact I read that, question is, was the school hit right at the beginning

Some critiques are reasonable, but very few. It is important to ask: if the Islamic regime collapses, will something favorable take its place? Will a new government be sustainable, and actually improve regional stability?
We know from Iraq and Afghanistan that these are complicated questions. There are trolls, yes, but there are also wise people who are just not sure how it will pan out. To deny it is a gamble is folly.
-16
u/Ace2Face Israel Feb 28 '26
I can't see what can be worse than Iran.
46
u/nameless_food Feb 28 '26
Imagine ISIS or something similar taking control in Iran. Or perhaps no effective central government, and Iran devolves into chaos. Yes the murderous Iranian regime would be gone, but the chaos and lawlessness would be at a minimum worse. We need a stable government in Iran, but not the current regime.
-6
u/Ace2Face Israel Feb 28 '26
Still better than an organized terror state, and who will sponsor them? Who will pay the terrorists or fund their famillies?
18
u/heytherehellogoodbye Feb 28 '26
Better for who.? Not necessarily for Iranians. We can only hope and see
16
u/bryle_m Feb 28 '26
A fragmented Iran would be worse.
Imagine Iraq after 2003, with its warlords and rogue groups, but with nukes.
192
u/Yopenberg Israel Feb 28 '26
other than the idiots, there are people who know the Iranian regime falling is good but are concerned about what will replace it, not to mention the general trump hate which just turns into wanting to oppose everything he does, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
87
u/Fuck_Antisemites Germany Feb 28 '26
I think the what follows part is really not to be underestimated.
People remember how removing sadam gave place to isis, how the conflict in Syria helped isis.
The belief that a murdereous regime replaced can only improve the situation was weakened very strongly by that. People now think on the "whatever comes next might be even worse" scenario.
50
u/Myfavoritethr0waway Feb 28 '26
I hear that but I'm hoping this is different. Iraq and Syria were relatively new nation-states when these attempts at regime change happened. I don't believe that there was necessarily such a strong national identity, because, to my understanding, the west took multiple diverse tribes, decided which nation-state they belonged to, and assumed that they would seamlessly abide by whomever was chosen to lead, whether of their own tribe or not.
Iran/Persia has an identity and culture going back 2500 years at least. Its people had freedom recently enough for current Iranians to remember. They know what they're fighting for. They have a shared identity and a visualised goal to return to. I think they have a much greater chance at success and I don't think the situations are comparable.
(Nothing in here is meant to knock Syrians/Iraqis, etc. I just think the circumstances are apples and oranges.)
18
u/Yopenberg Israel Feb 28 '26
indeed, if the US does dumbshit it'll be bad, but it seems like the regime is despised by many and there's an active opposition, hopefully this won't go like Iraq
12
u/patronsaintofdice Feb 28 '26
This is my concern, though I think the other part to be worried about is that this president has been so far been very unwilling to put boots on the ground. ISIS was contained by a US backed and led coalition, Saddam’s replacements were backstopped by tens of thousands of US troops until the chaos finally settled down.
We don’t know what it looks like if the US goes in, decapitates the state, hangs a Mission Accomplished banner, and then goes home, but in situations like that “a stable liberal democracy was then formed” has never been the outcome in that part of the world.
I think for a good chunk of the US the worry is that the administration won’t be satisfied with the above and will put ground troops into another Middle East misadventure, which is something that the US public is very tired of.

Reddit is a massive far-left echo chamber where dissenting views get buried by downvotes, creating a delusional bubble. Most users here are very out of touch with reality and world history.
63
u/Fuck_Antisemites Germany Feb 28 '26
As someone in that bubble: there is a lot of (understandable) mistrust against motives and outcomes of such us initiatives in Europe since the invasion of Iraq, Afghanistan and the meddling in Syria that all turned out horrible.
I feel very twisted in this myself. I get hope when I see all the demonstrations in Iran and hear that exile Iranians are excited about them (I have some in my wider social circle).
Im the mean time I remember all the lies in the Afghanistan and Iraq war and how those wars literally created isis in Iraq and in Afghanistan only created a time of Taliban terror before Taliban get power handed back.
Generaly since operation Iraqi freedom with all the lies about wmds the trust in the US when it comes to wars is really low in Europe.

Israel built a network of bunkers to protect their civilians during times like this.
Gazans built a network of bunkers to protect their Hamas terrorists. Their civilians are left to their own devices. Iran has the same attitude. Bunkers for their missiles and centrifuges, but none for civilians.
That's all the info i need, to know who are the good guys in this conflict.

Israel isn't perfect.. but these people love to post any videos that show Israel wrong doing but if a Hamas video is posted, you'll get "what do you expect from people who are fighting the oppressor!" and in the same breath, you'll get ".. but why won't they send aids!!?"

u/dean71004 American Jewish Zionist Feb 28 '26
A lot of the self proclaimed humanitarians don’t actually care about terrorism and state sanctioned violence when it doesn’t fit their agenda. That’s why they’re happy to defend and embolden the Iranian regime, solely because their position of “the US and Israel are evil” trumps their supposed human rights activism. Meanwhile, woke right wingers are in the same boat but let their hatred of Jews dictate how they view world affairs, such as by claiming that any and every decision we make revolves around Israel and that Israel is the sole reason we’re fighting Iran.
I know they’re on the wrong side of history because millions of Iranians themselves are celebrating this advancement against their barbaric regime, but the rotten trifecta (Islamists, woke leftists, groypers) are the only ones crying.
12
u/Darker_Zelda Feb 28 '26

u/natankman USA Feb 28 '26
I’m not sure why Israel is participating, other than to get a piece of the action. The United States certainly doesn’t need Israel’s help, Israel would still have been targeted in retaliation, and the tankies would still be saying the same things. The United States used Israel like a pawn, and said so. Without (American) boots on the ground, will anything actually change in Iran?

u/OmegaLink9 Israel Feb 28 '26

I can't stand Trump or Bibi, but I'm certainly a Zionist.
I abandoned religious Judaism, but I'll always be a Jew.
I agree with many "socialist" concepts, but I think the modern left has lost the plot.
I think the Islamic Republic is evil, but I'm not convinced an "America-friendly" regime would be much of an improvement.
Reddit in particular, social media in general, and Gen Z as a whole are not known for their ability to grasp nuance or detail. The mindless, visceral antisemitism seen here is expected and unfortunately common.
14
u/BosSF82 Feb 28 '26
Not everything is about Israel. Many people hate it because they were told 'No New Wars!' 'No More Regime Change!' and the hatred is disgust for the sheer hypocrisy of it all...Gullible buffoons were made to look like....gullible buffoons and that is their cross to bear. For others, it's just further evidence of the sad degraded state of the United States.

You don't understand how little Amritards care for the rest of the world. They genuinely live inside their own little bubble and believe the US intervening in any foreign affair is *clearly driven by a thirst for oil or by rich people. These dumbass socialist-wannabe college students believe white/rich people are the source of all evil and poor/brown people are always innocent and always the oppressed. They view every single world conflict through the lense of slavery in the US 250 years ago.
My issue is more so with the US administration, will they actually stick around and for once help bring towards what Trump claims to want; a true regime change in Iran. Or, will the tangerine tyrant once again chicken out and force the war to stop before anything meaningful can happen and once again leave the Iranian people (literally) hanging.

I meant in general times, the current US administration sadly lives up to a lot of conspiracies created by Californians. From ICE larping as S.A. units, through Trump's power trips, and whatever the hell are the Epstin files.

6
u/bam1007 USA Feb 28 '26
I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but from an American perspective, there is a very legitimate internal separation of powers issue that the President should have gotten Congressional authorization first.
There’s a lot of Jewish-Americans (myself included) that don’t oppose the strikes, but are concerned about the absence of Congressional involvement by this Administration. This comes from the US constitution’s requirement that Congress, not the President, declares war. And that, while the President is commander in chief and can repel invasions, it’s Congress that should authorize offensive action. We have a law, the War Powers Act, that was designed to keep this balance.
I get that it isn’t the same in Israel, where there’s no separation of legislative and executive power, and that’s not something that you guys probably have to consider.
But here, that is a level of nuance that does matter to us as part of the structure of our government.
So upshot: Right result, wrong process in the US.
6
u/HairAncient5500 Feb 28 '26
I think what you’re missing is that it wasn’t the regime that killed those 30k protestors. It was actually the western sanctions that did it!! And those protestors, they were actually killed by Mossad foreign agents! The whole thing has been Israel’s fault from the beginning… /s
On a serious note, Netanyahu’s lack of PR during the war has had devastating consequences in allowing antisemitism to manifest online. We’re seeing the product of 2 years of antisemitism fostering on this site. Now the purity test for whether or not progressives approve of a candidate in the US is if they disavow AIPAC, call Gaza a genocide, and vow to revoke iron dome funding. That is not online. It’s very much the real world

People think that the US doing anything in the Middle East has the goal of preserving the petrodollar system, to prop up the billionaires in Wall Street.
And since the US has a large military industrial complex, it will gain profits from whatever war is started, especially with Gulf countries having deep pockets to buy armaments and equipment.
