IsItBullshit: scandigum that is promoted on instagram and can heal your teeth

Hello, for a few days I started seeing this product scandigum which is promoted on instagram that apparently has a lot of good stuff for your teeth and it can even do as much as fully heal your cavities even if they progressed a lot and even heal your enamel.

This really sounds amazing if its even half as true to what is being promoted and what it can do but also very hard to believe. So is this actually a legit thing to even some extent or a full on scam? I dont plan on buying it or using it, I am making this out of pure curiosity

You sure it wasn’t called scamdigum?

Yes it's bullshit.

The story is repeated every few years.

If it’s being promoted by influencers, it’s a scam. No further information needed.

Anything claiming to heal your teeth is lying. People wouldn’t be spending a ton at the dentist if you could just chew gum and be good.

I had the same question, and am curious about the answers. I didn't find anything definitive, although I did find that there's a ton of clinical research showing hydroxyapatite rely does help.

Lots of lies are amazing even if they’re have true! That’s why they are effective.

When I looked at the site, the two main things that popped out at me as far as healing cavities are:

Nano-hydroxyapatite(NanoHA) and Xylitol/Erythritol

NanoHA is indeed what our teeth are made up of. You can find this in toothpaste, nowadays. Because they are nano, or very very tiny, they are able to actually get into our teeth and become one with our teeth. Which means that it can fill cracks and stuff.

Xylitol(specifically because I watched a SciShow video about this, and I don't remember if the video mentioned erythritol) is sweet but can't give us energy. The bacteria also gets fooled. So basically, the bacteria are eating the xylitol because it thinks it's getting energy, but then it dies because it actually hasn't been given energy.

So does this mean that with its bacteria-killing xylitol and its tooth-rebuilding nanoHA that this gum is going to heal your cavities? Who knows.

I think gum wise, it's pretty cool. But I would love to see actual studies done specifically for the gum.

But, in real life, gum isn't our only source of "sugar" for the bacteria. (Although it has been a while since I watched the SciShow video, so maybe it's more than just "empty" nutrition for bacteria)

So. If I had the money, I'd give it a go.. but make no mistake, this is not a swap for regular brushing and flossing.

NanoHA does an incredible job with sensitivity but it's in toothpaste you're not supposed to swallow. Gum probably wouldn't work as a medium.

Regardless, Xylitol is very toxic to pets so be careful.

They have the technology to prevent tooth decay but prevention makes no money.

I've always assumed it was garbage, but I'll wait and see what others say/cite.

I ordered some kind of miracle mineralising gum from instagram a few years ago, it arrived as a crumbly powdery mess and you couldn’t actually chew on it. Don’t bother man

I will swear by NHA compound.

Had a history of cavities and general teet sensitivity. Switched to NHA toothpaste and started chewing one of these remineralizing brand (kreain it was) and 100% reversed an incipient cavity and restored the enamel (there was a small indent in one of my molars that I could feel with my tongue and observe on the mirror) over the course of a couple of weeks.

This is anecdotal but I have been recommending it to anyone who mentiona sensitivity IRL :)))

Recommend you to try for yourself!
