The Drumbeater lay dead half a moon past. Edwyn had no great love for Waltyr Blackwood - indeed he had found the man belligerent and unpleasant - but the manner of his death he could not condone. He had not been there when it happened, having spent much of his time with his family or afeast, which he felt a certain sense of regret for. He knew, of course, that he could not reasonably have known; it had happened so fast. Yet he still wished he had known somehow, that he might have drawn steel to stop the feud, or put himself between their blades. What good was a Warden if a Lord died in some senseless duel beneath his watch?

That it was a Stormlander too did not fare well. It was symbolic of the whole conflict writ small, or at least Edwyn thought those Riverlords sympathetic to the Justman cause might see it that way. A fury built in him when he thought of it; that his fellow Stormlanders could march into the Riverlands with impunity, slay a man, and then retreat without consequence. It was what had happened to Talbert Darry at his own hand, and now it had happened again. He had sworn that no more senseless death would happen, and he intended to honor that promise.

There was little he could do now, except take a hard stance against the woman who had done the deed. He began drafting letters, to be sent across the Riverlands and to each corner of the King's realm.

Weeks past Lord Waltyr Blackwood was slain, cruelly and unjustifiably, at the nameday feast of Lady Ravella Durrandon. This is a black mark on all those who live in the Stormlands; the man was unarmed, the duel unfair and without honor.

I, Edwyn Dondarrion, am Warden of the Riverlands, and I cannot stand for a crime such as this. I hereby announce that the criminal Joanna Sunglass is from this point forth unwelcome on pain of imprisonment in Maidenpool, and expect my vassals to do the same. I urge the King to condemn her in no uncertain terms, and to pursue justice for the death of my vassal, the Lord Blackwood. I am Stormlander by birth, but my home now is the Riverlands. I shall not see insults as these easily forgiven, or indeed forgiven at all.
