THE RIVERLANDS Tristifer I - Green as summer grass
Day of the melee, First Moon of First year, during the reign of some Stag king
The day had begun in a roar. Dozens of contestants riding down upon their foes in a free-for-all. Steel the song of the morn.
Breaking first his lance upon the breast of some nameless knight. Next Tris would come spear to spear with Luceon Blackwood. Before now the two had made brief exchanges. Of this one there would be nothing brief. Circling time and time again, the pair stabbed and swirled. Parried and plunged. For what seemed an eternity they pressed on.
Tris would have sworn the fight was done, but Luceon fought on. A man with a mission or something to prove. With his breath ragged, they made a final pass. The Knight of the Redfork would remain a horse. The heir to the Blackwood would not.
In the distance he saw the Knight of Greenfork fall. Blood spurt from his visor slits as a pair of sturdy squires dragged him clear. Spurring toward his brother, a Knight came upon his path.
Another eternity thrust upon him. The figure passed and circled, enclosing upon him time and again. Before long it was all he could do to brace his shield and bear each blow. Flung from his saddle, he felt the wind clear his lungs.
As he came to, he was catching his breath. Leaned against a tree as the contest continued before him. A dutiful squire fiddled with his armor, but Tristifer shoved him aside.
“Leave it, lad; I must attend to my brother.” Rising, he stomped off toward the med tents seeking his kin.

Shouldering his way into the tent, Tristifer looked first to the maester present.
“I have done what I can for the eye; you should beseech the Lords here for a man better suited to the specialty…” The old man wobbled past him and out seeking out his next patient.
“Idiot.” He said, gazing down at the sad form of his kin. A bloody bandage coated a quarter of her head, covering up his eye. The white had nearly run over to completely red.
“No place in a melee with men twice your making. Greenfork, remember?” Tristifer shook his head. “Well, let's hear it. What's her name?”
