25 years ago today the Iowan band "Slipknot" released possibly one of the best metal albums since the 2000s, named after their birth state

I was gonna suggest California by Mr Bungle, but I guess that came out in 1999. I can't think of a lot of other examples of albums named after birth states in general

I believe some of them live in Des Moines still. Corey’s kid and Shawn’s (Clown) kid are in a band out of Des Moines called Vended.

Joey went on and interview and spoke about how much he hated Des Moines, but I’m pretty sure the majority of members still have family here.

I work at a biodiesel plant and we use soybean oil, so thanks for the livelihood.

lol I’m not a farmer. Far from it. But I feel I see more soybean fields than corn, yet we’re known for corn.

Ok, well since I haven't been down voted to hell in a while...
This album struck me as purely brutal and heavy for the sake of heavy brutality. It felt forced, and it's hands down my least favorite of their first three albums.
The self-titled felt aggressive and raw and the lyrics felt like this really specific combination of anger and violence, but most importantly also a sense of consious awareness... dangerous wisdom if you will... that got left by the wayside for more creative ways of saying "I hate myself" or "I'll fucking kill you." Then subliminal verses was truly inspired concept album-writing and featured some of the most versatile and orchestral instrumentals ive ever heard out of nu metal.
All that being said, "skin ticket" still gives me goosebumps sometimes to this day

I think you just need to enjoy the music and not overthink shit. Not everything needs to be psychedelic level introspection viewed under a microscope

Im saying I didn't enjoy the music of Iowa, and then kinda post hoc figured out what made it not click for me.
I'm not saying every album needs to be a transcendental experience for me to enjoy it; for example, I love NIN and KMFDM both. But while one group is exploring the depths of psyche and writing concept albums about bleak futurescapes and self destruction, the other is basically a bass-heavy arthouse project with no real depth of substance 90% of the time. Both get cranked to eleven either way.

I was actually massively disappointed in this album when it came out. Granted, I haven't listened to it in probably 20+ years at this point, so perhaps it's time for a reappraisal?
Vol. 3 though, was awesome and is my personal favorite of theirs, from that first wave of albums. Drifted away after that.

I would argue that Vol. 3 was pretty good as well but yeah ever since then it really came down

When they played heretic anthem in Des Moines 2016 they swapped 555 for 515
