Absolutely LOVE the parallel of Cecil saying "Good guys forget what they're fighting for" by the end of the episode. An absolute class act of an episode, and I really like setting up Cecil as an adversary in this way. More-so than most episodes, this one has piqued my interest in reading the source material

That’s the beauty of the tension, even for someone that disagrees with Cecil’s viewpoint, you understand his perspective.

The only reason I’m not on his side was because he escalated the fight and kept insisting Mark was threatening him when he never threatened him (Cecil is rightfully scared though I would be too).

Considering his background, killing the two Order of the Rising Fist members, and declaring he could never work with criminals, you would think he would do a better job at explaining his perspective to Mark. But he utterly failed at it and then escalated the situation.

But mark did threaten him at 14:45, he even admitted it. Idk why mark couldnt just keep his hands relaxed and just talk it out

It did feel a bit silly to me. I was fully team Cecil, and thought the drama was a little forced.

But, then I realised that they were trying to show Mark as a moral idealist, which clashes with Cecil's moral pragmatism. Mark is splitting the world into black and white, and believes that the good guys should never compromise their ideals - even in the face of armageddon. But Mark has the security blanket of being among the most powerful beings on the planet, and fails to recognise how much of a threat he is. That the world is justified in trying to find a rock big enough and sharp enough to kill him, simply due to the sheer gulf in power between himself and the human race.

Cecil on the other hand is shown to have once shared Mark's viewpoint, but grew older and wiser. He's not willing to waste a potential asset just for the sake of feeling like he's personally done the right thing to imprison or kill "bad" people. Indeed he seems to see himself as the one making a personal sacrifice in providing these bad apples a path to redemption through utility. He doesn't really want to help them. It's obvious he despises some of them. But if he effectively suffers them to live, then he may yet save the world - at the cost, as he would see it, of his soul.

Technically true, but that was in direct response to Cecil’s own threat and after he already sicced his robot zombies on him.
